I was also interested in the Supra. After my 3rd test drive (extended on a demo car) I was unimpressed with the gauge layout and options and decided to roll down a window as I like to drive with windows down. Was going 45 and the buffeting was so bad it ruptured my eardrums (OK, maybe a little exaggerated lol) I messed around with all kinds of window heights and speeds and the car was undriveable with the windows down.

Salesman was PISSED as I was gone for an hour. He THOUGHT I was smitten and had the paperwork drawn up. I drove in, plopped the keys in his hand and said "So Glad I went for that drive, this car is not for me"

Gotta do your research man! Can't speak for the wind noise, but the 1 Key thing is a NO GO.

    Good luck!

I agree UNTILL you lose your ONLY key and the extra cost from the dealer. My wife loses at least 2 sets a year. If I didn't have extra key's she'd be really unhappy with the cost. (I stopped paying for HER key loss 10 years ago :))

I do work for the gov't (civil service employee). :D

On a serious note, if someone buys a vehicle with issues and did *NOT* do their due diligence first in researching the issues....it's not *only* on the manufacturer.

The observation must be made that all manufacturers are guilty of upping content in vehicles to the point of absurdity. Pricing reflects this idiotic trend.

We’re paying for all these features that are virtually never used, or used so infrequently that they’re really kind of pointless for most of us regardless of vehicle type. How much of this shit are we realistically using enough to justify paying for it?

A quick look at electronics/infotainment is in order for this rant. For fuck’s sake all I need or want is a nicely sized screen that can display Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, manufacturers can frankly stop developing their clunky overwrought software that sucks and drives up costs. Just a nice screen hooked up to a couple of USB input options and Bluetooth. Make the stereo a nice one with separate tuner and volume knobs and call it a damn day.

Next a criticism of interiors/cabins is appropriate. Beyond adequate adjustments for different body types and lumbar adjustments, I personally think we can do without massaging seats, and even power adjustments. Keep the heated and cooled options because that is useful. Beyond that a focus on nice durable materials, and inherent seat comfort or support (depending on application) is money better spent. Go spend some time in a 1980’s Mercedes-Benz, and tell me we haven’t downgraded since then, even in luxury cars. Simple formula: excellent long wearing materials, and good craftsmanship are better than gizmos and stupid shit. All I want is a truck with a well made long lasting interior, and comfortable seats. I don’t care if they’re manually adjustable because they are only getting adjusted once in awhile. Same for center consoles, trim pieces, and door cards: simple, well made, durable materials is better than over styled bits that are trying to do too much stuff (looking at center consoles…) but are made of rickety materials that won’t last.

We can also ditch the panoramic sunroofs and most of the superfluous driver aids too. They’re a novelty that adds a lot of cost, and get used like twice.

I don’t have anything against change, when that change makes sense or improves something important to core function. However; in this case the vast majority of this extra equipment adds very little benefit to the day to day driving experience. Yet extra equipment drives up cost significantly, detracts from long term reliability, and in the case of cumbersome manufacturer infontainment interface software often frustrates the driving experience.

Beyond equipping a car or truck with a high quality comfortable interior, powerful and responsive engine/transmission combo, a chassis/suspension that handles and rides well, and powerful predictable brakes; there’s really not much more to be done to really improve on the core functions of the vehicle. In my opinion too much R&D $$$ is being devoted to extraneous features, and therefore isn’t being spent on dialing in what is important. That’s not just a complaint with Toyota but pretty much all the major brands.

Maybe this is the sort of dumbed down shit the masses want and the market reflects that. As a guy who enjoys driving a well engineered and well made car or truck, I’m frustrated by the trend towards transportation appliances for people who could care less about driving. Sure there are enthusiast products for weirdos like me, but they have become a smaller and smaller market segment and ever more expensive to obtain.

Up to the Limited without the Panoramic roof I can kind of accept the Tundra. Frankly the Limited could dump some extra stuff and shave a few thousand off MSRP too.

I like the larger screen (personal subjective preference) and I like a nicer audio system because I like music and somehow I managed to consistently use ear pro and my hearing is intact after my time in service. As an 0351 no less. I could care less about heated seats, but would like ventilated seats, and a 5 year old son and two big dogs makes Softex an attractive option. My mom lives with us now after my dad passed away and she has a 2021 RX350 with black Softex (or whatever Lexus calls it), it’s a completely useable and nice seating surface and has held up very well. Super easy to clean, nice soft surface, very comfortable seats on long 8-10 hour drives and it has butt and nut chillers.

Toyota should offer all three powertrain options in the SR and SR5 in my opinion. Same with the 32 gallon tank for the SR.

Love my Platinum, everything about it. Heated/cooled seats, Pano roof, leather are amazing. It has all the creature features and comforts that I want in a truck, one that I really enjoy driving. I think the fit and finish on my truck is awesome. There a 2 things I did before buying.....
    1. researched everything I could find
    2. test drove before I signed anything.
I understood from the beginning that this is a new gen. and with that comes bugs and as those bugs show up Toyota has been fixing or at least has acknowledged these issues(wind noise, 2nd FOB, bed cover, etc.) and is working on a fix.
Everyone has a idea of what they need on their truck but what they want is a different thing, hence different trim levels. What makes a truck for one person will not make it for another, to each his own. Find a monthly payment you can live with and enjoy!

I'm a Gen X'er, and while I don't 100% agree with everything CD said, the simple fact is that the more complex something is, the more moving parts, the higher the likelihood is that something will break.

I'd love more complexity, but not at the cost of being broke down in the middle of nowhere or what have you. I'm an IT guy and I can tell you for a fact that 99% of the time stuff is broke, it's because some major change was implemented or some new system was phased in; and a lack of testing contributes to that as well.

I don’t get this test drive thing. I’ve never really got much out off them. Cruise around with a salesman for 10 miles and head back.
I do however, do my homework the best I can and try to be aware of any known issues to look out for.
The key thing is dumb but was hopefully told to OP up front.
The wind noise is bunk. It better be fixed by Toyota. Shouldn’t be a huge issue.
The headroom is where your homework comes into play. That is definitely on you, OP for not doing your due diligence.

I feel your pain ... stuck with old tech by choice.

The Tundra's 5.7-liter V8 produces an ample 381 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Maximum towing capacity is 10,200 pounds.

I’ve had yelling matches with Ford customer service when I owned my Ford trucks. Most dealerships don’t treat customers very good. The best experiences I’ve ever had was with a Lexus dealer in Watertown Massachusetts. I wish I could send everybody in the country there. Plus the waiting rooms are incredible. Definitely not just a Toyota issue though.

I agree. Honda has always been a good experience for us. Dodge has been a little shady and unhelpful. No place is perfect, but Honda has always seemed to work out with having a good attitude towards us no matter the dealership, which is why we’ve pretty much always purchased Hondas.

Ford, Chevy and Ram all have work truck trims. They sell primarily to fleets. Plenty of choices for the market demand with those three.

Lol wtf tech you guys even complaining about????

Tss 2.5? That system is already archaic vs what other mfg offer.

I've driven Toyotas since 1987, read my posts, I don't think Toyota deserves to brand the gen3 tundra as a Toyota it deserves like scion or some other budget bin stuff they build. The fit and finish doesn't even come close to my 25k Camrys that are 7 and 13 yrs old.

It's the lol y'all ppl think Toyota is breaking grounds in tech, they are seriously 10years and 1 generation behind vs the competition.

Keep crying about the tech, your born in wrong era if you can't see how this shit is saving lives, but go on ahead and pound sand like Toyota cares lol

Absolutely! Given the EPS challenges Toyota has and their somewhat flaccid EV position, which right or wrong the market expects, how in the F could you recommend they pursue downmarket? You would know that the decontented versions would probably have a BoM that is higher only to be competing against established down market offerings.
Other than making luddites happy, what is the path to success there?
