it is a great tune. it took about a full tank of gas for the computer to relearn everything. now that I have run just over 2 tanks of gas with it (about 900 miles), the performance is really noticeable. the tune is a great bang for the buck.

yes, but I am sure that Shrek would make arrangements to redo the tune. he is a stand-up guy. besides, how often does would a dealer reflash the ecu? I think its pretty safe :)

I'm just thinking worst case scenario plus I'm pretty far from his home base Washington State.

@BlueBottle I have a question for you. I received my BDX tuner but I have to wait to get it because it’s out in Vegas. I read somewhere that it gets locked to your Vin number. I assume this means you can’t take the tune out and try it in someone else’s truck? But what I really want to know is if it can be used as a code reader on my other vehicles. Obviously leaving the tune in my truck but still use its capabilities to re-DTC‘s clear etc. on multiple vehicles?

    See fine print
The tune gets locked to the vin. I believe if using it as a scanner it doesn’t matter but don’t take my word. I have a dedicated scanner which I prefer. The bd scanner isn’t the greatest.

Thank you sir. I guess it’s better than nothing. Most anything that’s all in one I guess never really does one job perfectly.

On the fence of getting a DAP tune or a bully dog tune. My truck is still under warranty so is it easy to unistall the tune when needed? I hear with a bully dog tune diagnostics won't see the tune. Sounds like it's hidden. I hate the stock throttle responce, the truck feels so governed down. Don't care about gain in fuel milage, I want a responsive truck with crisp shift points. I do like you can install a bully dog tune with tuner and then unplug and put away. DAP or Bully Dog need help with decision?

I want to commit to a DAP, but the thought of voiding a 5 month old trucks extended warranty scares me.

I have the same feeling to, but the hidden power we can tap into makes me want to do it. I know if the tune is install in person the dealer will never see the tune. If you install it remotely you will have uninstall before you head to dealer. From what I read it only takes two minutes to reinstall the tune. O'yeah they recommend driving 50 miles after you uninstall the tune. I think I am going to DAP tune my rig. For the money I think it's worth it. DAP tune will be in SLC next month thinking of driving down there for a tune. Again if installed in person you don't have to worry about the dealer seeing it. Those of you who have installed it yourself was the process straightforward, as well as uninstall when heading in for a service?

Why can't they see it though? I would only do the in person tune. He'll be in LA this weekend... decisions decisions...
And I would love a little more umph! Can't say I don't like listening to the 5.7 roar already!

Magnuson. Problem still exists. From what I take magunson/bullydog has 2 tunes. 1 for regular and 1 for ffv. However FFV tune is a joke. They use a pressure sensor wired to a fuel relay to increase fuel flow. Problem is the voltage reading doesn't change linearly with vacuum to boost. It's almost digital around 0 to 2lbs if positive pressure.

That part I don't really know. He knows how to bury it deep in the ecu.

I would get one but hold off using the bullydog tune and use either DAPs or tune with a piggyback. Pressure sensor regulated rising fuel pressure doesn't work well. I would rather have tapped the fuel rails and installed a rising FPR with a return line instead.

So far bullydog/derive has failed to meet any fixes or promises. 2 months and counting.

the in-person tune overwrites the ecu and the dealer cannot actually see the values of the ecu. all they can view is the date that the ecu was last flashed.

for the remote tune, you do not have to remove it every time you go to the dealer. you would only have to remove it when you are bringing the truck in for an issue that might have any thing to do with the ecu and it requires the dealer to check it. for example, they don't have to hook up a diagnostic computer to change your oil or rotate your tires, but they might if you have some cylinders that are miss-firing.

I had the in-person tune done about 1200 miles ago and I absolutely love it. I have had the truck serviced and had a state inspection (includes an emissions test) and there were no issues. for $400-$500, this is the best performance mod that you can get.

If the dealer can see it was flashed on said date with no service record of it...that would make me a bit hesitant

    I guess.

but seriously, how many times in the decades (since the early 90's) of you owning vehicles have you ever had the dealer reflash, replace, or inspect the ecu because of an issue? I have owned a silverado, an s10, a titan, a tacoma, and now a tundra and I have never had any issues with an ecu.

but I hear you.... I guess there is that chance... however small it is.

you are out of the normal warranty period.... so it doesn't matter. if something goes wrong, then you are going to pay for it anyway :)

I see it as risk vs reward. the risk for this tune is very low and the reward is huge. I guess everyone needs to weigh the risk for themselves.

Still in 5/60 not including my extended :)

My buddy has it and loves it! I’m more timid now due to the BS Toyota pulled with me on the SC

I’m running BD from 17.6L/100km to 15.2L/100km at granny mode. Also like the throttle response. I haven’t tried premium tune yet.

And they refused to warranty their own product?? Wow. I’m running a TRD SC on my 2010 Tundra and the other day it developed a rear seal leak. I took it in to Toyota and they actually gave me a 50% discount to replace it. They never questioned the SC or the BD program that’s on my truck. I currently have a Magnuson sc on order for my 2017 pro. Should be getting it in soon :)

@T-Rex266 what performance mods do you currently have on your Tundra?

Yes, because it wasn’t purchased directly from Toyota but a vendor. The local level approved all of it, including their regional guy who has the power to authorize large repairs.
Corporate told them no, despite me having supplied all of the paperwork including the invoice from Toyota showing I had Toyota install it.

Currently - none, other than it being white. :burnrubber:

Ouch! Them corporate guys are all about the numbers:spending:It's surprising to know that you don’t have any mods on your Tundy. Not even a CAI, or catback?? :)
