Budget of $1000

I gave myself a budget of $1k for a sound system with moderate bass, great surround and quality although keeping the STOCK stereo. Also I like my rear storage in my DC and don't want to remove it and still add a sub I can fit behind without cutting anything.
Here's what I came up with:

Epique E150HE-44 5-1/2" DVC MMAG Extended Range Subwoofer 200w RMS It will take a net volume of .45 Cu Ft and translates to about an 8x8x13 box perfect for the space behind storage on the drivers side. -$100

Infinity Primus 3000A Monoblock Amplifier 300w RMS @2 ohm will drive this lil guy -$100

Infinity REF9630CX and REF6530CX component sets for the doors 6x9's in the front and 6-1/2 for the rear doors -$110 fr, $105 rr

Infinity Primus 6004A 4-ch 60w x 4 RMS @4ohm will drive front and rears. -$130

AudioControl LCQ-1 Line converter and Equalizer with Bass Boost This lil guy is the heart of the system which will accept speaker level inputs and convert to low level signals -$249

BandPass Passive crossover for dash and center speaker <800hz>5000hz This will take away lows and highs from distorting stock dash speakers. -$12

Installation Items 4, 8-ga power wire, fuse block, distribution block, sound insulation, door plates, speaker foam surrounds, 12,16-ga speaker wire, MDF for box construction, terminals and misc items - $280

This is the ever-changing plan, and I only have a couple components so far, but the plan is to build the sub box first then install door speakers and finally all wiring and routing of that dang 4ga power wire from the battery all the way to underneath the passenger seat where both amps will go. LCQ-1 is going in my cooler sized center console. Front tweeters are going in the sail panel and rears are going to get grafted in the door panel.

Lots of people on this forum suggest Tech12volt.
I tried to email them from their 'contact us' section of their web site but it gave an error once I hit submit.
No phone number or direct email address listed on their site.

This does not inspire confidence for a new customer that may need tech help after the sale.

He only checks these forums periodically. Mostly responds to email and Facebook messenger.

Never seen a 5.5 sub. Interesting. I spent around $1k with James and couldn’t be happier. Amp, front comps, rear coaxial, wiring kit, loc, mounting panel, all hardware, sub and box. After purchase you’ll have his cell number. Just can’t call on Sundays. Family day is Email only. Had to remove my under seat storage but it found a good local home. Also disconnected my dash speakers. They screw up the stage with decent components in the front doors. Won’t miss the factory HU voice prompts. All they’ve ever told me is “welcome to Nebraska”.

 

Like others have mentioned you should talk with james at tech12volt. I have bought all of my equipment from him, over about 3 different evolutions my stereo has gone through. He has great prices on just about everything (not just whats on his website) Email him at the gmail website that was listed above. It sounds like you have made a box before, so you could probably do that yourself and save some money and just get everything else from him.
He does have a $1k JBL/Hertz package that i would go with. Comes with everything you will need (including speaker adapters)

If you dont want to go with that....here's a few thoughts:
It is possible to make that little sub do some work in your truck, but i'm afraid you are going to be an uphill battle. I think you should be able to get a 8 or 10" shallow sub for around 100 bucks and will serve you better. If you are dead set on that little guy, look at @Tundra Fan sub setup, he's using a 4 6.5" subs in a transmission line ported box and he said they sound great! I hope he's fine with me sharing his pics:




Just disconnect the dash speakers and dont mess with the passive crossovers for them (its free). You will put the tweeters in the sail panels, or some people have put them in the dash corners as well. If you are on a non-jbl system the dash tweeters are powered by the head unit itself. I think they will sound nice with the tweeters from the infinity.

Try to get 4ga OFC power/ground wire.

I would go with 2 sets of the 6.5" components and just get some speaker adapters for the front, better to match them, and let them take care of the midbass and up since your subwoofer will take care of the lows.

If you can fit it in your budget, get a box or two of sound deadening (i used noico from Amazon)...you dont have to coat every surface, just cut it into strips and do the tap test until its nice and quiet.

I'm not going to lie, when i first saw that sub i thought your setup was going to be a shit show, but after i looked at everything, it looks pretty good for the money!

 

I’ve had subs since I was 16 in my bug, (Dektasonik D200 amp: if you know, you know) and all my other cars since then. My last truck had a 10” Pioneer with 120W RMS with an MTX bridged at 150w rms @4ohm. I was pretty happy with that setup but still want a little deeper bass. The Epique specs and high excursion got me excited about it. Like I said before, I’m keeping my underseat storage and the box fits perfectly behind it. If it’s not enough bass, there’s room for another one. Cheers

I used an online box calculator and I've tuned it down to 35hz on graphics looks good. Ported box at .45cu ft. I'm pumped for sure.

Is the sub a duel 4 ohm or duel 8 ohm?
Its kinda confusing how its listed on partsexpress.

Im just asking cause the sub amp you've selected doesnt have the power ratings available for 4ohm loads and since it has a (i think) regulated power supply.

Either way, thats a nice build and that sub is quite interesting and im looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it after you've had it for a bit.

 

It's a dual voice coil each rated at 4ohms. They will be wired in parallel to achieve a 2 ohm load.

 

Update:
Box is done and fits neat & tight behind the storage bin. I will have to cut the bin after all and will reinforce the area to keep vibration to a minimum. I also started the modifications on the sail panels before I start the install. I bought these https://www.ebay.com/itm/203185725581 and started the cut and fit process and will be using ASB 3D- printer filament and will mix with acetone to form a glue.

 

Planning the final parts of my stereo upgrade. Definitely looking to see how this turns out. I went with an 8" shallow pioneer myself, with a diy custom box.

Question. Did you go with something before the LCQ1 like a dsr1? Wasn't sure if you had to take in to account the any factory head unit crap.

Rockford fosgate DSR1. Looks like a well thought out unit and only $100 more than what I spent.

 

Cool. I figured I would do the dsp route as it was cheaper than replacing the stock head unit (which is perfectly fine for my usage)

Do you have to worry about a factory amp like the jbl setup?

 

I'm eliminating the existing amp under the passenger seat and plugging those hi level speaker inputs into the LCQ1.

Dash speakers getting beat so I’m getting Memphis audio 2.75” in the corners with a band pass 800/5k Hz filter and these Peerless silk dome tweeters in the center high passed at 3.5k Hz. I made a custom mount using same mounting location but using flat head 6mm screws to stay below tweeters

 

And sail panels with molded in tweeter pods.
