I think it is clear that the Ford folks took a run at Jeep's market share, and by the looks of posts on the bronco forums they are getting a fair number of Wrangler owner deposits. I almost did just out of speculation that I would really want one by the time my number came up and would then trade in my Unlimited Rubicon. Then the thought that maybe, just maybe, it starts a mid size SUV off road arms race, and Toyota would jump back in with some sort of FJ again..

Until then, I will hold onto my money and my jeep until I see what issues the new platform has.

Seriously, Toyota... Look at whats going on.. get in the fight!! Fj with removable top, 4.6 liter V8 and a manual would have my money very quickly...

I bought a new Bronco in 1976. Loved it. 302 V-8. Brown. Cut the rear fender wells out 2nd day I had it to fit new Armstrong Tru Trac tires and ABS flares. 3rd day.... Hooker Headers went on with Cherry Bombs. Wish I still had it. I like the new Broncos. Ford did some thinking on this it seems.

 

That's the base model only. You can't get the higher trims with the manual.

 

Saw that but it's kind of laid out with I4 on one row and V6 on the next row so it's still not clear to me if each transmission is available with each engine or only with one or the other.

 

You guys with your old trucks really piss me off.

Every time I jump in a new truck I love it.
Then I see older trucks in mint condition and miss them SOOOOOO damn much.

Bouncing around on a bench seat trying to tune in FM on the dial on the way to the beach with more friends than that damn truck could hold is a missed sport.

 

I bet there will be a good amount of used wranglers hitting the market in the next couple of years.

 

Yes. Only the I4 will get the manual.

 

You can get the 4cyl with manual in the 4 door is what that is stating. IF you get the 6 cyl it will have the 10spd auto. I could be wrong but I do not believe I am unfortunately.

I'm not sure that will be the case. There's a lot to be said about a SFA; especially in certain use cases. We will have to see though. We don't know much about the new Bronco IFS.

 

Seems to me like a missed opportunity.

 

yes and no I feel. Yes, you'll miss out on some hardcore wheelers, but let's think critically about who will be buying this. I feel like the market for the new Bronco will be people who will be daily driving it 90% of the time. The other 10% will be on some dirt roads of easy to moderate difficulty going at a cautious pace. A small subset will crawl them and treat them like prerunners. Only some of that small subset would prefer a manual. An even smaller amount of the majority of buyers will prefer a manual. The market just doesn't support wide availability of manual transmissions anymore. I personally prefer wheeling with an auto. I prefer my daily be a manual though.

 

My bias in favour of manual transmissions aside, I was mostly thinking of the fact that you can get a Wrangler in any trim with a V6 and a manual transmission. Admittedly, there may not be a ton of people buying them but Ford isn't going to pry those hard core folks away from Jeep with these options.

I also would like to see more manuals in general and I would like to debunk this myth that models or trims with more power have to have automatics.

 

I like the looks. If the quality is anything like my 2019 Raptor may as well flush your money down the toilet.

 

Looks great but I have been burned by too many domestic cars breaking down on me. I just can pull the trigger on buying one.

I reserved mine today. Only cost you $100 bucks. Reserved a Black diamond 2 door. This will replace the wife's impreza. Going to get the sasquatch package which bumps the tires up to 35's and adds bilstein suspension. Looking forward to getting back into a Bronco. Had a bronco II in high school thing was a beast for a small suv.
