Broken tailgate hinge

    This is correct, the strut is what causes the plastic bushing to break. If the tailgate is forced down faster than the strut can move or if the strut froze then it will break the bushing and in my case it broke the ball mount that holds the strut. I just used the tailgate with not strut for a while and it's not a problem, it just drops fast and doesn't have a lift assist but not a big deal. A member on here ended up figuring out a way to replace the ball mount though so I did that and now everything is working. My dogs are regularly in my truck bed and when I let them out they push down on the tailgate which is what I'm assuming lead to it breaking.
