Give it time. My mileage was better after a few tanks. But this is fairly regular for me driving under 70mph. This drive was about 90 miles.

Thanks, I'll try that. I literally just tried another suggestion. Use sports mode. Hopefully this idea helps. Have a great day!

With all due respect. I'm trying to have an intelligent conversation and get some feedback. I can do without the sarcasm. The point of the mathere is $75,000 later you expect to get what you paid for. This is a twenty twenty three vehicle not a twenty eighteen.

Depends, if I would have keep the iso low roll resistance falken street tires on it I could probably see 19-20 mpgs, but I put some real truck tires on mine and average 16-17. Funny to see what 33-34 inch tires do to mpg regardless of hybrid or not.

Yes it’s a hybrid. I don’t think the hybrid helps mileage much. And I have the Pro without front spoiler and AT tires.
keep engine under 2k rpm while accelerating. Coast whenever you can, ease into gas pedal.
just little things learning how to drive it the most efficiently make a big difference. Hope that helps your results

I’d check tire pressures. Also it may get better as your engine breaks in more. I’m not sure if it is fully broken in at 2500 miles.

Last thing, just trying to be helpful: you can respond in the same message that you quote someone else in. Instead of doing two separate posts (one for quote and one for response).
I don’t think it gets messed up. It’s just factoring in an mpg of 0 to your current tank average.

So am I. There are many factors that impact fuel mileage, city, highway, air conditioning use, tires, altered suspensions, all sorts of stuff. It just kills me to see people come on here and whine and moan about fuel mileage on a freaking truck. It’s a truck and the fuel mileage will always suck. Unless you work construction and need to haul equipment and materials to job sites there is no way to cost justify driving a truck as daily transportation.

I drive one because I like the vehicle and the cost of fuel does not bother me at all.

I just tried suggestion on Sports mode. Ironically the person seems correct. It’s appears to be more efficient. RPMs dropped below 2000 pretty quickly. Now averaging 17.4 in a short trip. Maybe eco mode would work on long highway drive.

I tried sports mode. Seems do a little better short highway drive with city driving mostly around 30/70 city driving. Averaging around 20.4 so far on half tank.

Like @631johnp said highway might be better in eco mode.

Sport mode is worse my dudes. Holds gears longer and blocks out top gear. That is way worse for efficiency.

Unfortunately the EPA numbers are just a sham. Nothing in the EPA process requires a vehicle to be driven on a public road. Everybody cheats the EPA numbers somewhat. Toyota chose to probably cut as many corners as possible to come up with a best case the EPA would accept, vs what a typical driver might see. You know this because each SR5+ trim level has the exact same EPA mpgs despite some trim configurations being 600 or more lbs heaver than other configurations.

That being said the current EPA numbers are probably the best case scenario on the lightest curb weight configurations with auto-stop-start working flawlessly at every single idle in the drive cycle.

The tundra seems to have a wide variance between a high fuel consumption scenario and low fuel consumption scenarios. (Mostly Due to Weight and aerodynamics) Other vehicles are more consistent throughout the usage band (usually due to just being lighter and more aerodynamic).

My typical short loops under 10 miles typically result in a MPG between 17-18mpg on the downhill trip and then 12-14mpg on the return uphill trip resulting in 15mpg. I've seen on a highway drive though a trip go as high as 23mpg on the downhill, but then returning because of the uphill return the mpg is like 14mgp on the return trip.

Comparing to my old 2017 3rd Gen Tacoma, that has similar EPA ratings, saw about 2mpg better on the "uphill" legs but about the same on the "downhill" legs so go figure.

I think if the EPA numbers were generally 14/17/21 instead of 17/19/22 it would be more accurate. I think we all want to see in our minds the number be:

Worse Case / Avg User / Best Case instead of city/combined/Highway.

In general, 3rd gen is 1-3mpg better than the older gen when driven by the same driver on the same drive cycle, on par with other manufactures when driven in the same condition/test loop on the road.

I'm satisfied with my fuel economy factoring in I have one of the heaviest factory configurations out there (and lowest payload), I'm not satisfied that the epa number is accurate or means anything. I expect to see some improvements from break in, summer gas, and the air dam deploying consistently ( I belive it doesn't deploy under 42F outside)

Yep, it’s all there if you just slow down. I can get 20mpg at ≤60mph with my 5.7L. My best I’ve recorded is a 41 mile trip at 65mph. I got just over 19mpg. That’s hand calculated on skinny 35s lol.

When I’m trying to get the best mpg possible, I don’t use cruise, either. It’s too quick to hunt gears to maintain exact speed instead of letting the truck slow down a bit on inclines and speed up a bit on declines.
I disagree. I can get better than EPA numbers in my 5.7L. The thing to remember is that my dinosaur of a drivetrain was designed back when people would get tickets for driving 80+. Today, EPA numbers are still measured at speeds WAY less than what people cruise at on the interstate.

Let’s be honest here the ford ecoboost 3.5 is way quicker than the tundra. And that has to do with the lazy 10 speed Toyota has.

Disagree, the hybrid in sport mode is as fast as any truck on the market sans a trx or raptor R

Lol double disagree. Stock trd pro will go 15.2 quarter mile do you want the video? The power boost will literally kill tundra hybrid. To be honest the hybrid is not whole lot faster than the standard tundra 3.5. It’s the weight with the hybrid that kinda kills any performance gains because the battery Toyota uses is outdated and heavy but somewhat reliable.

I get better milage in Comfort mode ( Hydrid) than Eco. Eco is the worst so far. I know comfort has zip to do with the engine but facts dont lie.

The problem with those mags is they don't test them in any other mode than stock, normal mode. I have owned a Gen 2 raptor and a standard hybrid Limited in sport mode is very fast.

Whew, I'm safe. Putting 50% down keeps the payment well under $800. Should be paid off in 2 years. :)

When I do start making those trips to deer camp in couple months. Last season truck had around 2000 miles on it. I would pull up at camp and a lot of it is freeway driving at about 24 mpg when get out of it at camp. So that puts around 21/24 highway. Could be better have gotten better if I try too. Best I have ever done so far on a trip to Walmarts and back which is 40 miles is 28 mpg driving slow during rutting season for deer.

upload_2023-6-5_8-14-51.jpgI expect something similar will happen. I remember when I got my 2017 tacoma I'd struggle to get 23 on the highway trips. In some conditions I did get that and sometimes I was able to get 24, but most of the time it was 22.4 on my 154 mile highway trip. But low and behold sometime in 2019 I think they revised the highway numbers down. I remember the Taco forums full of MPG complaints for the first several years.
