Got a few questions. Unfortunately am in the middle of the job, and researching with my thumbs on a phone isn’t finding answers. I read instructions and watched videos, and thought I was prepared. Also paid attention to how stuff came off the truck so I could replace accordingly.

    But.

Instructions tend to be generic, not specific for this truck. Haynes lacks the details in my questions. The exploded views on parts pages don’t help. And my last line of defense - the existing parts on my truck - are different from side to side, in some cases contradicting my research.

    Info:

    -2003 Tundra SR5 4x4 Access cab

    -power stop z36 kit

    Ok, the questions:

-New calipers came with a copper colored washer for the brake line to the caliper. My truck did not have a washer when I disassembled, and I don’t see where it would go and do anything. Am I wrong, or is it a generic part they threw in for some users?

-Wear indicators: Mine were on the inside bottom, but I think I gather they should be on top? The rotors should hit them first, and “push” them towards the pad rather than pull them away. Since the calipers are on the front, this means the wear indicators should be on top, to be first when moving forward.

-Anti-rattle spring clips (the M or W shaped things). Should they be on top - M? Bottom- W? Both? Existing truck had on passenger side bottom, driver side top, and only one per side.

-I also seem to be missing many apparently common things like slide clips and shims, but since neither existing nor new have slide clips and shims seem to be optional depending on pad design and grease.

    Thanks for (quick) responses!

Copper washers are sealing washers for the banjo bolt securing the hose to the caliper. Should be 2 of them. 1 under the bolt head, 1 between the caliper and hose.

    Wear indicators on inside bottom.

    "M" clips on top.

Thanks for reply. I don’t seem to have anything that looks like any banjo bolt I see online.

aside from being shiny new red, this is what it looked like before I started removing old parts.

This looks like my brake line.

Yeah, our trucks don't use a banjo bolt. Sorry, forgot it's been awhile since I've been into the brakes.

The pad retaining clip should go like this: (Edit: Obviously, the ends of the clip eventually go in the corresponding holes in the pad backing. This is a mid-installation pic.)

I just pulled that image from a Google search. The guy is using WAY to much grease though, and as the text indicates he's putting the pins in backwards.

Here's Timmy the Toyota Toolman's video doing it properly with a Tundra brake upgrade on a 3rd Gen 4Runner. Shows you exactly what you need.

Yep, finished (I think). Thanks for the help! Going for break-in / test drive soon, so if this is my last post you’ll know I screwed something up.
