Good choice! Solid reliable car! Top tip, the matrix is a Corolla wagon so parts are DIRT cheap and it will probably outlive you. In addition, they are pretty easy to work on.

Very nice. I got 200k on it's cousin, a 2004 Pontiac Vibe AWD. I trade it in for a bigger vehicle.

    Sweet those are cool!
    Is it AWD too?

I sold a Honda Fit to a friend a few years ago to use as his Kids first car and Today I got to drive it again helping him pick it up from a dealer where it had some service.

I love that Tiny Car to this day!

Great car but I would have made him buy it himself.

The only thing I ask of him is to do good in school just like my dad asked me to do. 4.2 GPA Dean's list and pre engineering classes and he's only a sophomore! Yeah I'll take care of his car for him

4.2 out of what? When I went to university, GPAs were out of 4 and when my parents went, they were out of 9.

I'm not sure how they weigh it but I spoke with his counselor and he's in the top 5% in his high-school. He's a smart kid and a heck of a hard worker. I don't need him to go out and find a job at 16 he has his entire life to worry about that just like we all do.

I only bought my first car because I was working a summer job after high school. Didn't need the money as I had enough scholarships but it was good experience.

Stop saying it's a joke it's not it's how you feel and it's okay. Just remember that sometimes even though we don't agree with something we don't need to jump in and say anything.

Nice. Get him started right with Toyota.
I also bought my son a Toyota for his first and second cars. His favorite teacher, who was more of a friend actually, had a 2013 Camry and my son loved it, so I got him the same one. He has had it for about 4 years now, and still loves his car, appreciates it and takes good care of it. That's all I can ask for. IMG_8602.jpg

Before that I got him a 1999 Camry for $400 from a coworker. Just so he can learn that you don't always have to have the best. He actually loved that car also. He had it for about a year until I traded it in on the 2013.

Back in my day it was out of 4, unless you took honors/AP/IB classes then those specifically were on a scale of 5. Some schools had another tier of classes that were out of 6.

Great parenting man. My parents did the same for me. As long as I did good in school (finished high school with a 3.9 gpa) and stayed out of trouble (i honestly tried lol), my parents didn't mind buying me my first car. I loved it. I got it in 2006 and it was a 1990 honda accord with 125k miles. Drove it until it had about 250k on the odometer and then we sold it to my uncle and he literally drove it till the wheels fell off at 350k lol. Plus in high school I had sports which took up a majority of my time so between that and studying, you have no time for a job and like you said you have your whole life to work after college.
