Hey everyone! New member here. I was wondering if anyone here has ever been stuck in a "stop-sale" with Toyota before? I bought a 2017 1794 in Blazing Blue Pearl yesterday but I can't take it until the recall has been performed for the bumper bracket. I'm hoping it won't take long before there is a remedy. Hoping somebody on here has some experience with this. Thanks!

They want to sell it...they'll move quick. If not, look at a different year (2016)

I'll be interested to see how long it takes for them to "fix" your truck. When I looked up it up there was no remedy available yet.

See if they will let you sign a waiver until fix is available.

Did they sell it to you knowing this would happen? Did you start your payments already? :notsure:

Sorry to hear. I would make them tell me an exact time frame on when my truck will be ready or walk away. Maybe you can get them to give you a better deal or get some add ones for the inconvenience. If not, as stated above, I would walk away. Good luck!

This recall was just announced and, according to my service writer, my dealer has no ETA on the parts. Had my Tundra in for oil change/tire rotation yesterday and inquired. Having said that, I remember my Chevy dealer's reaction when they had a 'stop sale order' from GM due to a recall. Basically, they fixed all of the units on the lot before the rest of us that were already customers were taken care of. So, I don't know how Toyota specifically handles these things, but they do want to sell their vehicles. Chevy service manager told me that all of their dealers are in the same boat when this happens, until they get parts and can fix the affected units. You could inquire with your Toyota dealer and ask them where your deal stands in the priority of things.

We made the deal and there was just a miscommunication between the salesman and sales manager once the paperwork started. So technically I'm through the buying process but am not starting payments untill it is able to be picked up.

That would be a good idea. That would make sense for them to get their vehicles up for sale asap. Thanks for the info!

Yeah I had that thought too. Part of the problem is my local dealer beat all my non-local dealers by around $4-5k which was tough to walk away from.

Did you go to finance already or right them a check?
If they accepted payment or got you financed I dont think they can stop you from taking it. At least it wouldn't stop me from taking something I paid for.

We have all the paperwork ready to submit and I did trade in my old truck because they were wholesaling it that day to a guy that travelled in from out of town. I know that sounds crazy but they paid me well above trade in value on my old truck and put a"sold" sign in the 1794. I needed to trade my truck in that day to get the trade in price I got. Anyways I'm stuck driving a work vehicle until the recall gets done. Our local dealer is a well run outfit so hopefully they stay on top of it.

I'd ask them to let me drive a loaner or have them pay for a rental since they neglected to inform you of this issue. They darn well knew about this issue and chose to start and finish the business transaction. If you have a work truck and don't mind, that's another thing and glad you have transportation.

Agreed on the rental. They can charge it to Toyota. If they push back at all just say to add it to the RO for the recall.

Agree with everyone above that they should be giving you a rental until they let you drive your 1794 off the lot.

Chevy did that to me on my 12' Corvette. I wanted to drive it home from FL, but there was a recall that was needed and no Vettes were leaving lots. I waited for about a month and then had it shipped out to CO.

They should be providing a loaner. I traded a car in to a dealer after work once. It was a spur of the moment deal because the oil pressure dropped at a stop sign. Famous GM 305 that was known to have bearing failures. I pulled in the lot with 99,995 miles. My new truck would not be ready until the next day and they did not want that trade cracking 100k. They gave me a demo to drive.

I got a call from the dealer today and they told me that it could be 30-60 days on the bumper fix. They are looking into a loaner vehicle in the meantime.

Does this mean NO 17 tundras can be sold NOW? that's a big blow for the dealers and Toyota.

This has happened to me before. I told them I was going to back out of the sale since I didn't have ownership and I was still within the 5 day 'no ask' return period. It was amazing how fast they came up with some paperwork to release the truck to me. That was Ford though, but I imagine salesmen are the same world wide.

To my understanding it is only tundras with the backup sensors because they don't have the steel brackets.

If you really like the truck then wait. Sales manager will be able to put you in one of their pre-owned trucks. I have done this twice with my Lexus dealer...sold my vehicles before the new one arrived. Couple thousands of miles on a pre-owned make no difference on its sales price.

It still sucks that you won't be able to drive your brand new truck for sometimes though.

So I went in to the dealer today to try to get a loaner lined up and ended up buying a 2017 Tundra CrewMax SR5 TRD in MGM for $39,536 and they put a topper on it that was close to $3,000 with options on it for no additional cost. It was a topper off a used truck that was a 16 so it was slightly used. I am very happy with that deal. Nice of them to throw the topper in exchange for my trouble. Thanks to all of you for advice and I was happy with the end result, especially when I'm saving like $8,000 over the 1794, and getting a nice topper.

Katzkins for $1,000?! The dealer quoted me $2,500 today w/heated seats. Is that an installed price?
