Did anyone purchase the black version? I curious what’s the black one compared to paintable version? I’m assuming the paintable one is primed. If I end up getting the black version, that should also technically be paintable too right? Or does that have a rough grit to it and would need to be prepped prior to painting it?

Paintable caps are smooth plastic (not primed). I presume the black with be mildly textured.
For like $50 or so, they sell replacement caps so you can get painted ones later

Where is the circuit breaker located? Boost Auto sent me a replacement due to passenger side mirror stopped power folding. Thanks!

It’s tucked INSIDE the mirror assembly.

Thank you sir! Hopefully this fixes the problem. I already replaced the switch and it was still not folding...:(

Just received a set of Boost Auto tow mirrors and so far not happy. Right out of the box the top corner tip of the big triangle outside mount section was broken off. I don’t really have time to wait for a replacement so I figured I’d glue it back on at some point and call it good. Install of the mirror assembly was easy enough, but that joke of a styrofoam gasket they provide is basically pointless. I reused the factory gasket, fits fine. Then during the wiring install we brought the DIY power folding harness through the door jambs and up to the mirrors and… no plug. Probably should have noticed this when I was installing the mirrors but I wasn’t really thinking about the wiring at that point. I pulled the mirrors back off thinking I just missed it and nope… figured out they wired the power fold wires into the factory harness, as if I had factory power folding mirrors. I even checked my order to make sure it wasn’t my mistake… it wasn’t, plus they provided the wiring harness so they should have put two and two together before shipping them out. Luckily there was a plug in between the motor and harness, so easy enough to unplug and pull it through and reinstall the mirrors, but doesn’t give much confidence that everything else is wired correctly. Then when we went to install the fuse tap and test for power I got nothing. Pulled the fuse tap and found a crumbled broken fuse was installed in the fuse tap. I had to get a new fuse anyways since the factory fuses don’t fit, so luckily I had a spare, but dang, they didn’t notice the fuse breaking when smashing it in there? I haven’t figured out how I want to wire/activate the spot lights yet, but I’m just hoping they actually work once I get to that point. They’re nice mirrors with cool features, but for 10 Benjamins I expected a lot more quality control.

Damn that sucks. Reach out to Boost and provide picture of all your issues. They have been pretty quick to respond when I've reached out. Hopefully they resolve all your issues to your satisfaction.

Yeah, I took pics and emailed them but it was after they closed. Hopefully I hear back from them tomorrow.

Good news is I got them installed and everything seems to be working fine. One thing I noticed is the passenger side folds and unfolds much quicker than the driver side. Not a big deal, just something I noticed. I also tried to wire the flood lights to the footwell light so they would come on as you approach the truck, or when you hit the unlock button, but apparently that’s a constant hot so they turned on but didn’t turn off when you lock the truck. Ran them to the reverse for now but I’d really rather have them as courtesy lights than reverse lights. If anyone knows what wire to tap to do that I’d appreciate the tip.

The angles of the mirrors are different (same goes for stock mirrors) because of the positioning of the driver. The passenger mirror has less distance to travel to fold than the driver’s side does, so it takes less time.

My OEM mirrors fold completely in sync, but my BAP mirrors definitely do not. I’m running my OEM ones now but will reinstall my tow mirrors soon.

UPDATE: I heard back from Boost Auto and they took all the concerns and assured me that they'd address them with their production and QC teams. They came up with a solution to make it right, so at least they are responsive and stand behind their products.

The only other minor gripe is the provided switch is the old tall size found in the Gen 1 trucks. Has anyone been able to swap it out with a smaller size switch with any success? Seems like a simple swap, but I'm not super savvy on how those switches work.

I tried to run them to the footwell light but only grabbed the positive wire. The lights came on but stayed on. Are you saying if I were to tap into both wires, then connect the single wires from each mirror they would turn on/off with the footwell light? Or would I have to run a separate ground wire from the mirror down to the footwell light and tap into positive and ground separately?

    Correct.
You would need to disassemble the mirror and isolate the ground for the “reverse flood” lights and run that isolated ground down to catch the footwell light ground in addition to the positive wire.

Many circuits in these trucks are “switched ground” controlled - they have a constant hot and then the ground leg of the circuit routes through the ECU or switch to control function.

The factory standard size mirrors, yes. The passenger mirror is “fish eyed” and so the geometry of the two mirror housings is symmetrical and the angle of the driver’s line of sight is compensated for within the housing and with the glass distortion. The tow mirrors are not that way, so the angle of the housing relative to the centerline of the truck is changed to provide the correct view.

Hmm, running a separate ground wire is too much work for now. Maybe at some point I'll run a separate switch that's not off a constant hot and has its own ground. I'll just run them off the reverse for now.

Does everyone with the power fold option find the folding mechanism to be reliable? I would need to fold them nearly daily when pulling into the garage. Wondering how long these are expected to last.

I've had mine on for 1.5 years. They fold well. I definitely fold them in more then I thought I would but that is why I went power fold so I'd only have to hit a button. Like this past Friday I ended up in a parking garage thats entrance felt tight, so the mirrors were folded in, once thru the entrance barriers that were tight i opened the mirrors back out, and then I folded them in once I parked.

I fold mine daily, as I always fold them when I park at work. Often at the grocery store and out on errands as well. No issues thus far.

I just ordered power fold with my truck not currently having power fold. Same thought process as above; I’ll probably have to fold them a lot since they’ll stick out more, and just hitting a button will help.

Hope install is fairly straightforward. Need to find someone in the Nashville area to paint my paintable caps.

I painted mine in my garage, they are small enough you can easily do them with aerosol cans.

Definitely. I consult the Rainman often.
Yeah I guess I never thought of that. What brand of paint did you use, and was it a good match?

@Terndrerrr I have a local automotive paint shop i use and they can mix, but I've also found DupliColor has a blue that matches my truck extremely closely. My mirror caps are finished with the Duplicolor aerosol cans, with the mirrors being separated from the truck you won't notice if they are slightly off. Unlike the front end stuff that butts right up to the rest of the truck.

Big thing. Ensure you use a 2k clear, the mirror caps take a lot of bug impacts and rocks. So far I don't have any chips or damage to my mirror caps.

I just finished installing the Boost mirrors in my 2021 Limited, adding power fold and wanted to thank all the posters for the great tips. The Amazon switch upgrade worked perfectly, once I figured out removing and reinserting the pins in the connectors.

    Thanks
