Boost Auto tow mirrors design flaw could damage your truck

Sorry my first post here is kind of negative, but I'm hoping I can save someone from damaging their door.
I joined this forum while looking for tow mirror options for my '14 crewmax. Based on my reading I went with Boost Auto GM style mirrors, without power fold option. While overall the mirrors are decent for the money, there has been an issue. The passenger side mirror folds in too far and contacts the door skin! :annoyed: I contacted customer service (using that term lightly at this point) with my problem. Boost was quick to say that it was likely defective and that I could send it in for swap or pay $100 collateral and they would send a new one. When the new one arrived it was no different. I sent the new one back and emailed them stating that the issue was that they had used the same parts left and right while there needs to be two separate parts. I said I was okay with being patient while they sorted out a solution.
Much to my dismay, their proposed solution is to have me return them for a refund and pretend this never happened.... I have asked to speak with their "design team", but I have a feeling that this is a sham of a company that is modifying ebay mirrors a little bit and simply reselling them.
This problem could be resolved by Boost spending two minutes to spot weld a small shim on the clamping plate, we'll see if they decide to make it right or not. If Boost won't fix it then I will myself, but for hundreds of dollars the product shouldn't be designed in a way that will dent a $50k truck.
Please be careful if you ask your passenger to pull their mirror in, if they pull too far it could be a shitty day for both of you. :argue:

I got a call from Boost today. They are sending me a clamp plate so that I can modify it myself to keep my truck from getting damaged while they look into the issue. I believe the guy I spoke with was being honest when he said that no one has ever brought this to their attention. It really did sound like they aren't actually blowing it off as I believed before.
I would say if you have these mirrors then you should check to see if the passenger side folds in too far, if it does then let them know so that they can work on making it right.

Found your post based on your comment from the other tow mirror thread. Interesting to see your experience... the Boost mirrors have been on my wishlist for a bit, I've reached out to their company a few times with questions and have always received a quick response. I wonder if no one had noticed this issue with it being on the passenger side and therefore not seen by the driver? I know the number of Tundra drivers with Boost mirrors is pretty low so it's possible it never came up. Thank you for working with them and helping them see this issue.

Were these manual fold or power fold mirrors? I'd assume manual but wanted to ask.

Manual fold. They said they offered the refund because their experience is that customers usually want a quick resolution. I told them I want to keep the mirrors. I've had them almost a month and don't have any other complaints with them. There's a very minimal shake at speed, but it's only noticable if you're looking for it.

They look a little too big on stk Tundra, so the wife agreed it needs a little height and bigger tires. Oh darn!

I would want to keep them too, after you go thru the hassle of installing them. I wouldn't want to then turn around and have to take them off.

I’ve had my Boost mirrors on for a few weeks and have been pretty impressed by them. Not sure I’ve even folded in the passenger side yet so I’ll def have to check it out in the morning and see if it’s making contact with the door. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Thanks for the heads up. Just put a set on last weekend. Will check tomorrow and see if the mirror hits the truck.

How'd you two make out, did they pull in too far? I got the bracket from boost, haven't had time to modify it yet.

Well it's a year and three months later, but Boost emailed me and said they redesigned the mirrors to eliminate this issue. My replacements are on the way! I must say I'm impressed, I was sure I would never hear from them again. I will update with impressions of new design soon.

So winter is done here and I was finally able to swap the redesigned mirrors on. I've been running them about a month now. I'm very happy with the mirrors, and Boosts handling of the matter as well. The replacement mirrors do not touch the truck anymore. The new mirrors also have a different plastic cover where they mount to the door which more closely matches the OEM design. I would 100% recommend these units if you need tow mirrors on your Tundra. They are much larger than stock, so they're a great excuse to add that leveling kit you're trying to talk yourself into as well... Adam from Boost has been very helpful, as I commented previously, I was shocked when he reached out to me to notify me about the redesign and offer to make it right.

Hey there, I don't know how much of a redesign they made. I am posting this more than a year later and after just getting my tow mirrors for my 2020 Toyota Tundra SR5, the passenger side window also hits the door. Going to try to see what they tell me about this on Monday.

Sorry this is happening. Boost tends to be responsive so you should have an email from them soon.

I've read of others having this issue on here, but understood it to be resolved. I have had my BAP mirrors for about a year and a half. Mine are power folding, but they do not contact the door.

I did have an issue with my passenger side BSM indicator, and must say, Boost's customer service was incredible. They worked with me to fix what I had, even sending replacement parts and instructions. When that failed, they sent me an entire new set and I have had no issues since.

    Just to follow up.

I received and installed our new tow mirrors and am happy to report that they fold closed with about 1.5" between the mirror housing and the truck's doorskin.

My car wash folds them shut with every wash, so this is good.

Sorry for the bad luck OP

I received the replacement mirrors, and they have the same damn issue, passenger mirror makes contact with the door!

I have nothing bad to say about their customer service, they have been very nice and responsive, but I don't understand why, for the second time, they send me defective mirrors. I paid $1,300 for these things; my buddy bought $150 Amazon tow mirrors with no issues.

Am I really now going to have to wait a 3rd time, receive a 3rd set, and pop those crazy door clips a 3rd time?

SMH, I'll keep you guys updated on their response.

Quick Update... Just got off the phone with their customer service and their only solution is me returning the mirrors for a full refund and that's it. Apparently, this original issue that happened back in 2020 has been forgotten and they are back to trying to figure it out.

Probably just bad luck for me but hopefully not a widespread thing.

Dang.... sorry man. Glad you rattled their cage so they fix the issue but that doesn't help you.

If you keep the mirrors, maybe add some of the clear protection film to that lower lip to keep the plastic from rubbing the truck?

I don't really understand what the deal is. They have very good reviews, the majority of people don't seem to have this problem, and my driver side mirror does not make contact.

The lady I spoke to earlier said that in her 2 years working there, she never heard of this issue, but now she's getting several complaints. Maybe just a bad batch.

Weird, and not reassuring at all that the replacement has the same problem. I was thinking of getting some of these. I would definitely order with the power fold feature, as I'm sure I would need to be able to quickly fold them in on some of the trails and forest service roads I use.

@RainMan_PNW did you ever have any issues with yours?

    Nope.
Mine stop short of touching the truck when folded. Over two years with them, and still work great.

@Terndrerrr I would greatly appreciate it if you can update us when you install them if there any issues. I love 99.9% of this mirror, but can't get over that 0.1% issue of the passenger side mirror making contact. I paid an extra $350-$400 for that power fold option and its a total waste of money if I can't use them.

Low key I wish this other company called MW Customs made the mirrors for the Tundra. These guys let you pick which part of the mirror to color match, which they actually do in house.

They don't make the Tundra's yet but if nothing changes with Boost I might just call these guys up to see when they will release the Tundra version.

    Monroe, CT
    Vehicle:
    2019 Tundra SR5 TRD Crew Max 4x4
