Gents, this may be a long sob story but help me out, so I have a '12 Crewmax 4X4, about 2 months ago I needed new tires, so me being me decided "well I want bigger tires" (stock were 265/55R20 on 20X9 Ultra Mammoth's +35 offset, came with the TX Edition) I ended up getting Bilstein 5100's put on front and back leveling the front out, a week later I put 295/65R20 Toyo OC's on, had to trim the front bumper and skid plate, small rub on the sway bar at a full turn, the guys who did the install of the suspension and put the tires on for me were Toys for Trucks Hesperia CA, great shop but I'm afraid they put me on bigger tires than I could manage if that makes sense, so I was about to move up here to NW WA so I figured I'll suck it up and wait until I get settled and get new wheels with a lower offset to move the tire out and take care of the sway bar rub not fully understanding the engineering behind it, fast forward a few weeks, I just put XD Misfit 20X9's with a 0 offset on (with the above mentioned 295/65R20 Toyos) and holy rub man, I drove back from Les Schwab rubbing the front fender at every turn, no big deal, did some more trimming to the front fender, cut some of the rear fender wall out to make room and realized I was rubbing on the body mounts at 75-85% of a full turn (more on the drivers side) so in the last 3 months I got the Bilsteins which leveled the front out, the Toyos, had my brakes redone 55K, and got the XD wheels for a grand total of just over $4500 including alignment/balance/labor/etc... my wife is pissed we're 13 weeks pregnant with our 1st kiddo and I've dropped a whole bunch of diaper and formula money on my truck (I'm cool with it babies are resilient ha) so now I'm looking at chopping the body mounts to make the room the tires need, only reputable shop I can find with experience doing a CMC/BMC on a tundra quoted me at $300-$500 for the chop and welding/cleaning up of the plates which I ordered from Relentless Offroad, I don't have the money to spare to lift my truck, and my wife is 5'2 and pregnant and already super pissed she has to jump in after the level and new tires, any advice or input would be greatly appreciated, I'm fairly new when it comes to mechanics and big truck stuff so give me a break, I'm here to learn and pick brains, thanks in advance Gents, Scouts Out-CG

You went the wrong way with your offset! You should have went to a +40 or something closer to stock +50 to +60. Going to a 0 offset really throws them out and is gonna cause all kinds of rubbing!! If you don't have access to a cutting tourch and welder $300 is probably a decent price to have the cmc done.

That has to be the saddest fucking sob story I have ever heard.

In retrospect, a higher than 0 offset would've been better, with that being said, I'm committed at this point and I like my new wheels and tires and my truck looks cool, no turning back now or the wife will never let me hear the end of it haha

Well if you were stationed here in Colorado, I would do the chop with you for six one packs.

So you basically have 3 options
    1) do it yourself if you can weld
    2) cough up $300-500 and get it done. Btw, 300 is high, don't pay 500.
    3) find someone who can weld. Even a non automotive fab shop... anyone with a welder. With the Relentless Plates, it should be pretty easy for anyone to do. And to save a little more, paint it yourself.

    Edit
    4) just keep driving straight

Have the shop chop it and weld your plates on. Their quote is pretty in line with what I've heard. It has to be done with your setup so not really much discussion here.

BTW-Your truck looks badass. Love the fender flares.

    Me.......
I guess I think up to 500$ to do a cab chop and plate weld is expensive because we do it at work all the time. A clean cut takes no more than a hour to do plus a hour to weld the plates in and paint, so depending on the labor rate which is generally 100-150 per hr you should be at 300 -350$ max. Again, that's my opinion so take it for what its worth...

But yes with the baby coming and fear of being a beheaded by your wife because of the money spent and now the truck being "worse" i'd definitely get some steps on there ASAP. Take a look at something like the N-Fab cab length steps. They are cleat drop down steps that will help her not slip while getting in and out the truck. In the end with the wheels and tires; once you do the cab chop you should be well on your way to being able to drive the truck normally again. Generally, you dont want to go above a 295-60-20 on the 2.5 lifts and even then its close after the chop. FYI; 20x9 0os typically goes on 5-6in lifted Tundras and still at times require a cab mount chop

    Advise?

    1. Make your wife happy - otherwise you're hosed regardless of what you do.
    2. Get some cheap side steps to aid in #1
    3. Pay the $300 to get things done right, unless the hospital's a straight shot from your house.
    4. Do things in this order asap
    5. Maybe this should be 1...Don't piss off a pregnant gal - they've been known to be a bit "edgy" - for good reasons.

Best of luck. If you're still posting a month from now and remain the owner of that nice lookin' truck - we'll know you followed our advise.

Ouch, $300-500 for the CMC? I charge $125 flat rate including plates for the local guys down here. Takes an hour to hour and a half if I take my time, including gathering tools and putting them back away.
The 0mm offset isnt terrible, but about 3/4" farther out than I'd recommend (+18mm is about ideal). I say look around a little more at other offroad shops that do suspension lifts/welding/etc and someone has got to do it for $200 or less nearby

Man I contacted just about every fab/body/truck shop within 50 miles of me based on online reviews, I even stopped by a custom bike/classic truck build/restoration shop and they looked at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead, about 5 shops I talked to either wouldn't do it/had never done it before, the shop I'm going with (with that quote) has phenomenal reviews, and a few guys I've met in my short time living here strongly recommended the shop, I lack the tools and welding experience to do it myself, and I'd rather fork out more money to a solid, experienced shop who have done quite a few CMCs vs. paying less to a non-specific shop, the shop I'm looking at specializes in custom truck suspension/fabrication, there's a huge shortage of legitimate offroad shops in my area, so my options are fairly limited, but once again if I have to spend more to ensure good work (since I'm completely new in the area, and haven't made the like minded friends yet) than I'll do it

I would just get the abjustable struts for the front. Bilistin makes them and they can put up to a 2" lift on the truck at $100 a piece. Then just get bigger lift blocks for the back.
