Haven’t gotten it behind the tundra yet....2008 Skeeter SL-180. I bought it new in 2009 when the boat industry crashed with the economy. Got a great deal on it. I’d sworn I’d never buy a new boat....

Im an outboard mechanic at a yamaha/ suzuki dealer. If it were me, the overall condition of the motor makes a big difference. I wouldnt look the other way just because theres high hours but id definitely get it surveyed by a certified tech. Have them check compression, gear oil, engine oil, do a data download of the engine computer and maybe even pull the gearcase and take a look up in the exhaust and check for excessive corrosion. Im a big supporter of yamaha but suzuki is right up there with them as far as quality. Also check and see if theres any warranty left on the motor. If it appears to be abused, lack of service, or excessive corrosion turn your head and walk the other direction. Just my 2 cents, good luck.

No picture of it hooked to my 17, but here it is hooked to my 07. Boat is a 17ft Proline CC, Hull is a 1988 and 70 HP Evinrude is a 89. Still solid for both, but will probably be trading up in the next 2 years. It’s getting a little tight for a family of 5

Thank you - that's reassuring to say the least. Yeah, I was chatting to the owner of the yard today - they're selling it on consignment rather than being the broker - he was giving me the history of the boat since they sold it and service it each year, he highly recommended a pre-purchase inspection, he was pretty cool about me taking it to someone else if i wanted but he did say I could hand out while they did it if i wanted to see things for myself. If they looked after the motor like they looked after everything else, it should be good but I'd rather see it with my own eyes before spending $$

    Thanks again for the input

A blue Ranger with white 1&3 Comanche stripes is my absolute favorite or blue with gold 1&2. Now all they're making is silvers or blacks. You can custom color any of the 500 series but most of what you see are the package colors. Is that about an '2000-'02 518?

I had a beautiful stingray ski boat, and sold it. They say the best two days of boat ownership is the day you bought it and the day you sell it. I wish i never sold it. It was a fuel injected 4.3 and ran perfect. I would suggest getting only a fuel injected motor if you can find one, and almost any 4 stroke outboard motor will be worth the extra money.

    F150 4 cylinder outboard, right?
If so theres only one common issue that im aware of. From 2005 through 20?? There was a counter balance that was made of plastic that failed often. Price wise it was really cheap to replace. For the labor i dont know.

Like suggested already, get it inspected if possible.

As for the boat in general, they are a good value and i have read raving reviews about the manufacturer addressing issues and such.

Is it a four stroke? Was it used in fresh or salt water? I just replaced my 2001 Suzuki 140 four stroke due to heads being eat up, All salt water use. I got the boat with about 650 hours on it and put about 200 more before I had to change out the engine, $$$.

Nothing beats a freshly oiled teak platform! I have grown to love the maintenance free fiberglass, but always enjoyed the March/April platform restoration before the season kicked off!

Nice! Yeah I oil my teak probably 2 or 3 times during the season. I always want it to look like new.

Sadly salt and yes, 4 cycle. I agree, the salt could really eff some shit up but the rest of the boat is immaculate, i can't believe he didn't take care of the engine as well as he took care of the hull. I mean, i won't assume that and will be getting the pre-purchase inspection somewhere else but I doubt that digs too far into the engine... The fun of buying used i guess... you never know what you're going to get.

At the moment it's between that and a sea hunt ultra 21 - same age, less hours but hasn't been looked after anywhere near as well - is even selling it stating 3 or 4 (trivial) things don't function. I'm a little leery of that since if he didn't take care of things as and when they stopped working, what else didn't he do?
