So these wired connectors go where the bulb goes for the stock license plate lights. I wired the new license plate lights to the connectors, and plugged them into the stock bulb holders. I got some 3/4” heat shrink tubing to go over the bulb holder so I could keep the harness. I just made sure the polarity was correct, and shrunk it all together. Ended up being pretty quick and easy.

Dual workshop today. Refurbishing the table I built for my mom a few years ago and getting the air chuck ready for the new bumper. 112BA570-CF30-47A1-88A8-CA96C85C95C7.jpg

The Westin bumper has holes drilled for parking sensors. I don’t have them, so I used one for the air chuck to my compressor, and solid grommets are on the way for the other holes. Also got that 35” tire back under the truck.
The air line leak is also gone. When I originally installed the air system, I cut all the hoses with a blade. This made all the cuts slightly oblong, and I thought this is where the leak came from, thinking the seals weren’t perfect in the fittings. When I would switch the compressor on, the pressure switch would turn off the compressor after a few seconds, so the lines wouldn’t burst. But it would kick on and off because of the leak. I grabbed a $3 tube cutter and recut the lines. No leak, and the compressor only comes on when I attach the inflator to the tires.

Yep! What’s up? Also fixing up this old chair that goes with it. I built them for my mom a few years ago. Just need sanding and new finish. Gonna burn the eyes and nose on the chair too. 4FF25D89-BA4E-462C-B90A-5BB7C3BB6F45.jpg

Fixing the ugly area above the rear bumper and under the tailgate. The Westin bumper sits a little lower than the stock one because the design would make the tailgate hit it while lowered. Right now I have about 1/2” clearance Clarence while the tailgate is down. I got two pcs aluminum flat bar, 2”x1/8”x36”, and a few M6 x 1” screws to fit in the stock threaded nuts on either side (thanks to @Tundra234). Trimmed, sanded, primer and Rustoleum Professional matte black, and taped off and sanded the middle area on the body where the hole for the spare tire wrench goes. The outside of each piece is held by the screws, and the center with the 3M double sided tape. I may throw a self tapper in the center later when I feel like the tape won’t hold.
While putting this together, I noticed my taillight was loose. Seems one of the tabs broke off and was only being held by one screw. A quick repair with plastic epoxy, and she’s back in business.
Last pic is just a porn still frame my GoPro took at about 60mph.

You know they make lights that thread into those threaded locations?
Not sure if you are big fan of additional lighting o_O but it’s just a thought.

Went on a night run last night. Had a good time, but was behind someone with limited experience. They kept trying everything in 2wd, kicking up rocks and dirt at every incline. I didn’t learn from this and was following too closely coming back down the mountain. He kicked up a shit ton of rocks and debris that landed on my hood. I’m kicking myself now, but I learned an important lesson. It’s ok if the person in front has a large lead. I wasn’t right on his ass but I knew I was too close for how he was driving.
So enough bitching and back to work - is there any way to fix this mess???

I don’t know man. I may see if it can be repaired. It’s not as bad as I thought, now seeing it in the sun. But I’m also only on two hours sleep, so my attitude is pretty good about it right now even as cranky as I am.

Glad you have a good attitude, but please tell me you coached the guy a little and showed him the damage? Slinging rocks at the guy behind you is bad enough, but it also tears up the trails.

I did not coach him at all. You’re correct, it tears up the trail and he’s gonna do it to the next guy. But when it happened, I did not have a good attitude. I had to be quiet, I was too riled up to be civil and it took quite a while to calm myself down. I also couldn’t see the damage yet, but knew it was somewhere under the layer of silt.

I’m making the next uppers out of metal. That’s it. I got too much time invested to ditch the idea.

Hit the dunes of Pismo beach with a few other yotas. Tons of fun, a few rescues. Pulled one dude out of a huge bowl, and the Victory 4x4 bumper gave in. Used my winch and pulled it away from the stock bumper. I used a snatch block and latched the other end to the shackle mount on the bumper. There’s about a 1” gap now, and from underneath you can see where thenmetal just bent outward. I think I’m gonna bend it back and add a few gussets so it doesn’t happen again. I have another related mod coming up as well, and I think it’s gonna be sweet.

Just means you need to upgrade to a full bumper that you can customize and paint match, right? :boink::evil:

    Ok story time!
My bumper got jacked up while pulling a 4Runner out of a sand pit in Pismo. It got more jacked when I got yanked out of a stuck spot. It’s pulled out about an inch on the driver side, and about a 1/4 inch passenger.
Before this happened, I had a plan to keep my Victory bumper and ditch the center plastic valance and bumper ends. Then I’ll weld bars to the left and right of the Victory bumper to imitate the rear Westin bumper. I’ll add a small horizontal panel that will hold the fogs, then add a flat panel behind the bars that I can color match.
My plan is to fix the bumper by bending the mounting points straight, then adding some beefy gussets (there are none!!!) to the inside of these mounts.
The hoops that will get welded to the side are going to basically be a rough draft. If I like them, I can use some nice .188 DOM material, but for now I’m using stripped galvanized post. In my past experience I’ve built bumpers out of wood and needed to build them twice to get them looking really nice. I realize this will make the bars purely aesthetic, but so were the other bumper ends, and this mod is gonna only cost me about $100.
