If the drive wasn't so far I'd try. We leave a few days after to go to Maine.
That looks like a ton of fun!

Took her off-road a couple weeks ago at night. My side view was horrible. Pitch black out the side windows. Gotta be able to see the mountain, or cliff!

Where does that go? Don't you already have ditch lights and your light bars?

Getting these ditch lights installed. In interest of trying to still keep things as clean under the hood as possible, I started by running the harness under the wiper cowl. The loom comes out the right side and I mounted the relay behind the fuse box.
These single relays bug me, I’d like to have something to consolidate the add ons in one area. Even if I need to fab up something to bring them together, it would be better than spreading out the relays all over the engine bay.
Then I wired it up to the fuse block, and tapped into the same switch as the light bar and spots.
I was actually super nervous to install the brackets, since I really didn’t want to screw ip the hood alignment. Bolting them up ine at a time solved the issue of the hood moving on me, but I still marked the hood mount locations with masking tape.
All in all, the install took about 30 mins, with an extra hour for the harness build. Tonight I can test them and party in the dirt for a bit.

I'm in the same boat as you, adding random one-off relays here and there. I'm probably going to add a controller than should eliminate the need for a separate relay on most things, or I might go with a relay box and just keep the individual switches around the cab like I have now.

I need to take an inventory on what I'm planning to add and figure out which route makes the most sense. I'm not going to add enough lights or need strobes/flashing functions to justify a Switch Pro.

@TRDFerguson I've been doing the same sort of planning! Just added that Auxbeam to my Amazon wishlist the other day, just in the blue not green. Between Geno and @Squatting Pigeon I get the benefit of having a controller for all the lights, just unsure I'll make it to their level and need an additional 6 gang controller. I wish you luck!

And as always @BlueRibbon4x4 the ditch lights look great. Your truck looks so awesome from the front with all the amber :101010:

Damn Man, Great build! through the day today I've read this whole thread.. Great write up.
Question: On the post where you used the automotive touchup, how has that held up? I'm think of doing my grill surround and hood bulge in cavalry blue. Maybe buying someone else's chrome take off to do a test run first. I know it is a good bit of chrome to sand off but curious of your thoughts.

Also, good job on the welding learning. Its great to see others not afraid to jump in and give something a try!

@Convertedman many thanks!! Everything I color matched was from Automotive Touchup. Everything has held up extremely well, as long as I used 2K clear over it.
I would definitely give a couple test runs before going after your permanent grille surround. As long as you can get that chrome off, you should be good to go. But if you got the cash to use someone’s takeoff, I would skip the hassle of sanding off the chrome and get a black plastic one to paint. Just don’t forget the plastic adhesion promoter first.

@BlueRibbon4x4 Thanks for the quick reply. Good idea on painting a black one. Going to try first. Just can't stomach the idea of the cost of buying one from dealer/sparks.

Last week I started creating the traction board lockable mounts. Had a shop accident and had to wait till this weekend to finish.
The board manufacturer (or seller) supplied some hardware, so I used the studs they gave and welded them to some 1/8” x 1” strips for the mount to the deck rails. Then using the same metal strips, welded them in a 90 degree angle and attached a nut. This is pretty much the cleanest I could come up with as far as being able to lock these in place.
I also welded a new piece on the high lift jack lock, so I could lock it up with a matching keyed lock. It’s crooked on purpose, so facilitate the smaller lock.

Get the AuxBeam 8gang! It’ll be well worth it to clean up the switches and the wiring.

I dig something like that, but I really like the oem switches. My interior wiring is real clean, i need something for the engine bay. The relay box that got shared earlier looks perfect. Just gotta figure out a new mount and ditch the current fust box.

    Not sure at this point.
Knowing you, you’re definitely gonna fab up something crazy!

I did like my OEM switches too, but I knew that once I started adding a few more items, the relays and what not were going to be tough to wire.

Didn’t want to poke any more holes into the firewall grommet.

Dude, I definitely hear you there. That grommet is a real pain after running through a few times. I used the passenger side for the amp cable and compressor switch. There’s much more room on that side.
