Starting the mounts for the high lift. The mounts will be attached to the tie down rails, and the lift will be attached to the mounts. So the first step is just making the bolts that will sit in the rail, so the nut can be screwed on from the outside without anything holding the bolt from the back. Again, I’m a super beginner welder, so any experts that see what I need help with, I’m all ears. Next will be the mounts, which doesn’t require any fab work, just some bends and drilled holes. I do have an idea for a locking mechanism, we’ll see how that plays out.

Moving on with the high lift jack mounts. I bent a couple chunks of metal and measured where I wanted the lift to sit. I had basically the same idea as the mounts in the rails. A bolt comes through the mount and got welded in place, so a washer and nut could be attached from the front, holding the jack. My welds are getting better! I still need to come up with a locking mechanism, which will wait for another day. 6A447D27-3449-40C4-A80F-80948C2548E4.jpgE69FA15D-8826-4CB4-B87C-9FFEA8B8A1CF.jpg748BFE84-F2D2-4705-BF05-5444AB558FBC.jpgA58F6529-A0F0-4BEA-A112-997BAE19CF01.jpg5E418BDC-58CE-404A-B8E4-3B16B01FBD68.jpg1089CC8A-AAD4-416D-9FE3-D5BF28B73688.jpg5F7A5E11-D1AC-47B2-866E-8878970E6FDA.jpg19618000-4286-48A2-B023-B4ADE12C5EB6.jpg45E9885A-A813-4A93-AF51-58E0B2D741BC.jpg

Time for some more Blue Ribbon Metallic action. Color matching the high lift handle.

This is the first time I’m using the Spectrum Universal paint system from Harbor Freight. I can really say it’s awesome. It’s basically the same as the PPS1 system, there’s almost zero clean up. I ran a little lacquer thinner through the gun and that’s it. You toss the lid and liner from inside the measuring cup. The cup stays clean because the lid friction fits in the liner. Super fast when going from paint to clear.

The cost for the startup kit was $20 + $9 for the gun fitting. Refill packs are $9, and come with double the refills as the starter pack. Very much worth it to not use a ton of lacquer thinner and time. I also grabbed a new Harbor Freight cheapie gun, my old one was a few years old, but I took care of it pretty well.

Should be cured tomorrow, I’ll reinstall everything at that time.

Fabbed up a piece for the lock on the high lift. Went simple with it, which is usually better. It’s one piece, so it can’t be disassembled, and it’s impossible to slide the whole jack off (ha!) the deck rail while locked.
I made one mistake at the beginning, and in the interest of transparency, all pics are there, including the fixed piece. See if you can catch it (should be easy when you see it). 434FBB04-B4D3-4623-9992-1E60B3AED05E.jpg 176C87D3-D332-4D62-BFE0-2572259652CB.jpg 5AACE0E4-5472-4671-8AEB-986C5173DC44.jpg 9EAC73AF-210F-4A4B-BD63-735C326D95AC.jpg 7F34891F-197F-4A2F-986E-67BA3FBBC763.jpg 932FBF1D-FE4F-4068-B07E-9DC6146B7069.jpg BC7456B7-6601-4D12-BEA8-F5ADFDEB3D28.jpg 601944DF-7C49-423B-993F-A370D9AAD2AC.jpg

Looks good! I'd guess you welded it on backwards initially and then reversed the direction based on how its mounted.
Always awesome to see your mods!

Haha yep! I got all ready for a test and as soon as I held it up to the rail, I cursed myself. Cut off the short pipe and cut and welded a new one on the front.

Been there. Well, not with something I welded since I don't have that skill. But definitely held up whatever project I've been working on and had that "shit...." thought. Your end product looks awesome and if you didn't share the progress pics, I doubt we ever would have known.

Couple things ordered. We’re taking a trip to Pismo, Ca in about a month. Gonna need some traction boards (hopefully not). Just need to design a mount on the deck rails and a way to lock them. I think I have an idea already, but we’ll see.
Some lights got ordered as well, maybe they’ll get installed before the trip. 8F94C321-CD90-45B4-AB1D-4B883763F9B9.jpg

Its starting to look like you need a bed rack. You could attach everything to that lol.
I bet you could design one that would be killer.

Shouldn't need those but good to have. I've taking the Tundra there only 2wd and has been fine just airing down.
