Things have been VERY busy at the shop. Just finished a full conversion on dash, radio, HVAC, steering controls, and dome + interior LEDs. She wanted all white, and it looks pretty good. If you would like a ballpark for your truck let me know what all you are looking to get done.

No Problem. Hopefully it's been a good money making busy! I really like the blue that 2qk4u has. I want the cluster and all switches done in blue if possible. My truck cluster is amber with red needles. I am assuming the needles have to be changed as well? Also, can the factory stereo be done as well? I am worried that the stereo can't be done and it would look tacky with everything else in blue.

Thanks for the email. Actually this guy is on a different Tundra Forum that I found when I googled Tundra LED dash lights. I wasn't sure if you had someone else do yours. I emailed him last week and got a reply back. Thanks again.

So you have it taken care of, getting your lights done? Just wanted to know so I know if I should order some blues or not.

FYI, the needles can be any color that you want. I do them in red, blue, green, white, purple, and amber.

Radio can be changed as well. Can you post some pictures of your interior?

I haven't committed to him. I had questions for him like I had for you. I haven't had those questions answered yet from him. I will take pictures of the interior and post them tomorrow evening. Thanks again for replying.

Wow... did Toyota really solder twin lead bulbs in (a la 2004-2006 Chevy)? Why wouldn't they use 194 or 74 base bulbs in the cluster? Did you use 5mm LEDs to do the conversion? How did you handle the resistor? I would assume just tacked it on to the annode side and heat shrunk it...

Toyota has used LEDs for their clusters since 2005 on the Tacoma, and most other models. So I use the identical PLCC-2 LEDs that are from the factory, just in different colors to match what the customer desires.

I can do the needles and backlighting for sure on the cluster. As for the radio, and other switches, that I am not sure at this point. I would need to have the chance to open them up to see how they are done. It looks like the radio would work, but the AC controls look to be like the 2005 and up Tacoma, where they use a diffuser, and tinted lens on the control panel for the amber glow.

Gonna have to think on this one. I can tolerate the amber but fairly certain I couldn't handle a mixture of blue and amber.

Is the PLCC-2 a surface mount LED or through hole? Sounds like it would be a surface mount. I would assume that there is tracing there?

I am quite capable of doing them. lol. I do this for customers every day.

Depends on what you want. Typically IP clusters are $75-100, Radios are $100, Steering controls are $25, HVAC and other switches are priced depending on how many you want done. Typically $25-75.

Cool... that looks like a 2835 SMD. Just because I'm a dork I'm going to look into how much work it would take to put RGB chips with a micro controller in there... then I can have 17,000,000 different colors!

Actually they are about 1/4 the size of a 2835. While you can try and go with an RGB, I think you are asking for trouble.

Who is the Denver contact that does this? I would like to get it done and am in CO. Also, where do you acquire the different colored needles if you do it yourself?

The needles are just illuminated behind with LEDs. I think there is a coating on the bottom of the needle that may need to be scraped off with certain colors.

    BamaToy,

Did you say you were on the east coast? Are you still doing these interior LED swaps for the instrument cluster and other dash lights? I'm interested getting this done!

I was just interested in doing this! I've got experience with breaking everything down, but I don't have any experiencing attaching the LEDs to the boards. I'm a quick study though, and I was wondering just what level of difficulty you experienced doing this? If it proves to be too much, I may have to just pack them up and send them to you!

    I'm up in DE.
