The shop that did my exhaust asked me if I wanted Chrome or Black, they had them on hand. So glad I went with black.

I painted my tailpipe with plain old black pain. In fact it's duplicolor black trim paint that I used to paint some of the chrome accents sound shifter and cup holder. Had plenty left so I gave it a shot. Its holding up just fine so far so I may use it for the tip too. Its dirty in the pics. Also my sway bar u bolts hace some thread showing as well.

My TRD dual exhaust has all surface rust on the pipes that lead to the tips. The truck is only four months old. Anybody else getting that problem?

Was too dark when i got home. Should have a better chance tomorrow.

For anyone who has a Toyota Orig. exhaust tip to remove, be prepared to use a lot of force and muscle! I basically unscrewed the clamp and used a piece of wood, holding it against the edge of the tip and banging the heck at it till it finally came off almost an hour later. Also, have WD-40 ready to help loosen it up. Of course once thats off the new one slips in easily..

I didn't use high temp. Just some regular spray paint I had laying around. Seems to have worked ok. Needs another coat soon though.

Glad I read this. I will be adding duals sometime soon and want black tips. Think I might buy/acquire another oem chrome tip and paint them.

Finished, hope it holds up to the salt and grime from our wonderful Nashville roads. Gaskets did not fit so those did had to be modified. Not sure what happened there.

So I finally took some pics as he sits at the moment.

    E50C1925-797C-425A-A717-CCD127113453.jpg

    D9DA1F3F-2B4D-47CC-8B3F-F76621686FFD.jpg

And so when I took off the original chrome tip, I was so focused on banging the thing off that I did not take pics of the process. I have the tip and can share how I got it off.

This is the orig. chrome. Inside the sleeve to the left is two half moon pieces of steel that act as a washer.

    AAB8AB31-6AAF-46E8-9795-6320B55E48BD.jpg

This is the piece of wood that I used with a hefty hammer to coax this off the exhaust. You need to put the wood in this position because at some point the washer will come off and this is the only place to get leverage. You see how much I beat this piece of wood up, the tip was on really tight and also WD40 helped! You also see in the background some of the wood that splintered off...The finished look is awesome!

You can come be my neighbor. We can geek out on our trucks. We could laugh at each other for taking too long to wash our trucks.

I've been thinking about doing this and your pic has sold me. What paint did you use on the exhaust pipe?

I've not seen rust on mine after 18 months on the truck - but I live in AZ. I'll look a whole lot closer when I pull the pipes off to paint them black. :)
