Any recommendations on a way to carry 2 bikes for trips? Are the hitch racks any good?

I have a cheap 3 bike hitch carrier. Seems a little wobbly but gets the job done perfectly fine.

If you have the front bedrail Toyota makes a bike rack that'll fit into the front bedrail. I've seen another guy on here have a setup like this. Sorry, I can't remember the users name or thread I saw it on. Maybe a search for Toyota Bike Rack might get you headed in the right direction.

Unfortunately not, may just go with the hitch, just not sure if certain ones are better than others

I love my Yakima 5 bike hitch rack but its costly.

    Need a little more info:
    • How many bikes
    • Are you road biker or mtb biker
    • Does cost play a part
    • Will you be taking them off regularly or just when you get there
    • Is it just for traveling or are yoy and avid cyclist
    • Are you traveling and living out of the back
    • Do you have lots of stuff crammed in the back?

If you want the best hitch rack 1 up racks are awesome. Pricey though but worth it. Here is a pick of it on my Tacoma with my old yeti on it. Haven't had time to ride lately so no pics on the Tundra yet. Can carry two bikes on it.

I second the 1up brand! https://www.1upusa.com In 20 years of using hitch mounted racks, this has been the simplest and best design. I bought 2, one with the double base that you can add 2 single trays to for a total of 4 and then the single base that can have 1 or 2 individuals on it. I have four of the locks they sell also and they do a great job of locking the wheels in.

I have two different rocky mounts that I use, both of which are lockable mounts that attach to the deck rails:
    https://www.amazon.com/RockyMounts-...214269&sr=8-3&keywords=rocky+mounts+thru+axle
    https://www.amazon.com/RockyMounts-...8&qid=1492214250&sr=8-4&keywords=rocky+mounts

I also bought the toyota bed net to put our gear and tires in since they have to be taken off to mount into the mounts.

I picked up a Swagman 2 bike platform style hitch rack from www.etrailer.com

I absolutely love it. I would definitely recommend it. The bikes are very stable, the rack is very stable, no movement, no scratches on the bikes or truck. You can keep it attached to the hitch and still lower the tailgate or open am SUV liftgate, just have to take the bikes off, pull a pin, lower an arm.

    Linky linky...

For hitch racks the best options are Kuat, 1Up or North Shore.

I have a Thule hitch rack (2 inch receiver). Rock solid. Tight fit, never have had an issue. Have it 7 years. Rubber and paint still looks new. Really like it. It is billed as a 4-bike, but I've only ever been able to get three adult bikes on it comfortably, without worrying about killing the paint on the bikes. 2 adult and 2 kid bikes, awesome. Pull a pin and lower the arm and you have access to tailgate. I can send you the specs and model number I f you'd like.

I'm looking for a bike rack to use when my camper is on my truck. I need to have access to the back door of the camper when the bikes are on. I'm upgrading my Suspension for "off road adventures" so the rack needs to be rugged. Any help deciding which way to go would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I have one for sale. Yakima hitch mount that folds down. Carries 4 bikes comfortably. Has built in cable lock

How many bikes do you need to carry??

    Would this be an answer?

I second the tailgate pad. Can hold up to 5 bikes and easy to load and unload.72cdbbcb9fbcc5c19f3333a1899324c5_8a415f8441243862ac9b9be37ad71d151924a17a.jpg076a436a61f77095e5083e2fd814ab34_0503b8dfb50c199f7c8b2a519949728ec287e6ca.jpg

    Tires are 275/70-18 KO2's. Wheels SCS SR8's https://www.stealthcustomseries.com/products/sr8

I didn't do a lift, but the PRO comes with a 2" lift from the factory. It rides VERY good and looks killer. I'm kinda smitten with it so far. The power is like a drug, yet I'm still thinking about a supercharger, just because.

Thanks for the info bro! A super charger would be crazy fast. Have you done your exhaust yet? I'm going to start a thread soon on exhausts as I have had 3 different exhaust systems on my Tundras and feel like I have found the sweet spot for performance and sound! Ride that Pivot hard man!:burnrubber:

The PRO comes with a TRD exhaust. It sounds really deep, I love it.

Yesterday was ride #47 for the season on the Pivot.
