Right, I had to put spacers on to stop hitting my frame at full lock. I trimmed my pinch welds too, Zero Rubbing, no hitting of the fenders (that's why you have bump stops.)

As for as the Sequoia that I mentioned earlier with 315/70/17 (34.4"), he trimmed the pinch welds and part of the front bumper and he doesn't hit his fenders.

So,he can squeeze a 305/70/17 but how much trimming will he need for .8" :notsure:. I would say not much.

throw out the offsets on your wheels as they should also help OP come to a more “educated” decision

Jeez fellas probably just gonna settle on some true 33 x 11.5 only .3 wider than what i already got shouldn’t need any trimming… Any recommendations on good looking 16 inch rims that wont break the bank. And what offset have you guys found gives the best clearance.

I will when I get home. I forgot the offset so I’ll have to look behind the wheel.

Personally, your truck looks good with its current tire size.

I don't have any pictures at full compression, wish I did. My bump stops limit my bump travel and I have not heard a peep of rubbing.

I rub like crazy 285/70R17 on stocks with a 1.3"~ (not a 1.25", custom trimmed spacer) spidertrax spacer at full stuff. I don't know how you guys aren't rubbing. My cab corners are tubbed, front bumper deleted, SPC uppers set to maximum clearance. (I rub on the fender)

Backspace, lift, and caster seems to be the magic sauce for less rubbing. I'm lifted 2" with SCS wheels and around 3 on caster. I barely rub with that same tire size.

I'm sure my issue is directly related to my choice of spacer. I'd probably be perfect if I had a 1.25" spacer instead of the custom abomination I'm running right now. My caster is also whacked out because of the the car accident that directly impacted the driver's side.

Lift doesn't matter for me since I clearanced the inside of the wheel well with a 315/70r17 when I cut my cab corners out. Dropped the shock out and cut anything that hit, full stuff and full lock both sides. Unfortunately I didn't have the fenders mounted to check them though!

So you think it's easier to fit skinnies? I'm leaning towards switching to 255/80/17 next. They are 11% lighter and I figured less rolling resistance may help with MPG. Plus a taller tire might look nice. I've been wondering if I'll have more rubbing or less.

Yes. Skinnier tires will help with clearance. Most tires hit on the outer edges, at least as far as frame/fenders are concerned.

I’ll vouch first hand. I rub all 4 corners under flex. To be fair I run pretty aggressive specs for wheels. But even with a less aggressive wheel it’s a shit show.

sorry if this has already been posted, but post number one in this thread has good information, most of which is already ITT, but if you look at the first example on down in the very first post @jberry813 said he was able to install 305s successfully with a leveling kit and pinch weld mods with no rubbing or scrubbing at a -12 offset. This is also on a 2006 tundra double cab, same as yours if I'm not mistaken (I went ahead and added screenshots of his OP about his setup). As shifty said elsewhere, his 4.5 backspacing is based on 17 x 9" wheels. If you change the wheel width, then that backspacing is no longer valid.

he went with 305 65s on 17 inch wheels so thats about 1.2" smaller diameter tire than what you were suggesting. His are 32.6" tall. Your 305/70/17's would be 33.8". 1.2" taller would definitely cause more problems

I really like his set up because it has the beefier tires that you and I both appear to like, but without the crazy, negative offset sticking way outside of the fender. I believe it is as close inside/the most minimal negative offset you can get away with

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/official-tundra-wheel-and-tire-setups-pics-and-info.95/

    IMG_5454.jpg IMG_4801.png

I recently did some testing on this and can confirm the -12 offset should clear everything on the inside. But I'm only going with 32" tall 305's. I'll be interested to see if the part about only pinch weld mods is true for me

I believe the magic # of 4.5 is directly dependent on wheel and tire width. I’ve noticed (w/ other builds) that go with 33+ inch tires that going with a more negative offset (or less backspacing) yields the best results.

I don't disagree. That magic number absolutely changes if you go to a different width of wheel

he didn't say it that way, but from my experimenting with something similar, his magic # was very specific to his exact set up.

Tbh I just wanted aggressive wheels and big tires. Coming from 37’s I wasn’t going to get anything that started with a 2 lol.

and then I just started cutting.
