Word of caution: cycling accessories can be nearly as bad as truck accessories in the cost department! :spending:

Nice looking bike! Looking forward to hearing what you think of it after you get a couple rides in.

Yeah I go back and forth. Got rid of a FS bike for this Fuse. I think I'm going to keep the Fuse (its so good) and the next bike I get will be a full suspension E bike. Just waiting for the ridiculous prices to come down. Cannot at this time justify a bicycle that costs almost as much as my motorcycle and more than most dirt bikes.

At the $1k price I would look at used hardtails. I have a Niner hardtail and really like it for cross country and easy singletrack riding. Marin and Salsa are also good used options. You might even be able to find a new Marin (on sale) close to $1k.

Saw a used Marin 26" on Craigslist for $250 few weeks back, I did like the looks of it, but I was too big for it, look like a silver back gorilla on a trike

So $100 for pedals basic what this store had and more comfortable seat, the tech advised me he would update the rear derailleur, SRAM or Shimano

Unless shifting is total crap, which is shouldn't be on anew bike, I'd hold off on the derailleur. Granted, higher end shifter and derailleurs are more crisp and precise, but what you have should work fine for a while. Just go ride and enjoy it. You'll eat through the drivetrain at some point anyway and need a new cassette, cables, chain, and chain rings.

I bought my son a Polygon and it is a great bike for the price. It isn't a $5k+ bike, but it is WAY closer to a $5k bike than it is to a "walmart" style bike.
I'd highly suggest going for the Siskiu T8 over the T7. The parts spec is WAY better and it is only $450 more.

was just gonna say - check out pinkbike. I got my kona from proscloset and some other gear from them - have been happy with both the bike and gear from them.

too, I grew up riding in Houston and went out to some places in the hill country - a hardtail is fine and I'd aim more for an traditional trail bike (regarding geometry) - the enduro style will be too much for there.

I agree with this sentiment. From personal experience, updating one component at a time is a money sink. You’re usually better off buying an entire groupset and getting it all dialed in at once. You save on the components and the setup/tuning fees.

I would avoid anything that doesn’t fit well unless it’s super cheap. The nice thing is that pedals and saddles can almost always be carried over if you plan to upgrade However, some things may not like the derailleur and seatpost.

I had a build list of frame/parts I wanted to build out a bike exactly how I wanted it. Added up to multiple thousands of dollars.

Found almost exactly what I was going to build on Pinkbike used for $800. The front shocks alone were worth more than that. Used is a good way to go!

Well I'm happy with what I got even though it's not a high end bike, riser bars and angled stem are next

Anyone have experience with the Giant ergo max plus with bar ends or the Ergon GP5?
Giant bar ends look adjustable, Ergon bar ends look more comfortable

Not really . I haven’t used bar ends since the 90’s and I went OTB and took one to the gut….somehow. I think the newer bars with some rise and proper setup kinda eliminates the need. But really it’s a personal preference.
That being said, I haven’t tried anything from Ergon’s higher end stuff that I didn’t like.

Even with my 35mm riser bar and Ergon grips with that lil extra palm support I still find myself gripping like if I had bar ends, getting a angled stem soon

What width of bars are you running? I understand , sometimes I’ll grab the ends also just to change up the hand position. I do it a lot less when I jumped to really wide bars. I’ve cut them down to 780mm as my sweet spot for comfort. But that’s still pretty wide.
