Ok...again, I've done a ton of reading about this topic but haven't really found what I'm looking for. I want the "Pro" look of the black headlights on my new Platinum but don't want to lose the LED drl. Took me awhile to even figure out what BHLM meant (i know, i know...I'm new...) but i still can't find a thread with actual instructions on this mod. Is it something worth doing (for someone with no real experience) or do you recommend someone who can do this for me? Any advice is appreciated!

The permaseal is a real pain and putting our lights in the oven to get them warm enough scared me. After all was said and done, I would do it again if I had to. It was a pain. Separating the headlights without damaging the housing was a pain, but cleaning out the old permaseal from the lens took time and patience.

Good advice on the retro, separating them and cleaning all the permaseal is a win, but if you make it that far, why stop there? Do it!

A little of this and a little of that.
I have LED’s in my head lamps and I really like them. I don’t want to do a retro but I’d like to do the BHLM with LED’s. Will that even work since the LEDs reflect off of the bowl?

It can work. Just take a close look at the pro headlights and you'll see everything is black except the reflecting part of the bowl.

have a look at mototundra's DIY thread... I'm in the process of following it and it's awesome. By far the biggest pain in the ass is separating the lens from the housing and removing all the adhesive. Truly a pain in the ass. Once you've gone that far, you'll want to do more than just slap on some paint and glue them together!

Pro Tip - leave the leveling motors on while you're baking them, (stay under 265 degrees to be safe). If you remove them, the housing's rest on two flimsy tabs, made even more flimsy by the baking process. During the adhesive removal battle, they can easily get broken off without the motors in. (ask me how i know - nothing a plastic welder or epoxy won't fix but still a pain in the ass)
