I did something similar years ago. I was drilling a hole in a hood with a 3/32" bit, the bit snapped and I rammed what was left of the bit thru my thumb. Broke a big hole in the nail, nicked the bone and popped out the bottom. It healed up fine and I didn't lose my thumbnail but now it grows thick where the hole was.

My brother builds decks and got a kickback on the nail gun and shot it through the center of the hand. No damage.

You had surgery on your hand or that was your brother? I can picture it happening, for people in the trades weve all had those types of near misses. Im just happy it was a brad nail and not a framer!

About 25 years ago, I rolled a Toyota truck (pre Tacoma) and the second time upside down, my hand was outside and got rolled over. It tore all the flesh off my ring finger and some of the flesh around the adjacent fingers. I was staring at my own finger bone. Even when I got to the hospital, I had to soak my hand in betadine for at least an hour so they could pull the stone/gravel/glass out before pulling what was left of the skin back to cover up the bone. I’m queasy writing about this right now. Surprisingly, didn’t hurt as much as kidney stones.
