I am using the "Status of the Battery Voltage" for my voltage reading, see post #15

    Correct, you could do that.

As for how difficult, it's not hard, just depends on how unique you want it to look and the time it'll take to make it look that way. But if you want fast, just use the default gauges and select the proper PID, place and go.

I tow a 30’ trailer and the tranny cooling well is number 1. I bought an external cooler and I have the thermostat pinned open in the summer months. My gauges are shown below, but what you don’t see is the green circle around the gear selection which indicates TC lockup - it wasn’t locked when the photo was taken. It locks in gear 4,5,6. I have things set up so I can glance at gauges to see what’s going on.
I just sat down for a couple hours customizing the gauge styles, alarm limits etc.
If you used an old phone or iPod with Bluetooth it would be perfect. That being said you burn through the battery pretty fast so I’d have it plugged in when bluetoothing.

    Nice!

Did you already have the cooler installed when you got the scanner? Just wondering if you got temp readings without the cooler to compare puck vs. cooler.

My trailer's pretty light (about 5,500 wet and loaded) and I'm pretty conscious of not letting it hunt for gears, shift too much, etc. so "my guess" is that I'm probably okay... but I really don't like guessing about stuff that costs thousands of dollars.

My boat weighs in at about 5,200 pounds loaded (tackle/rods/gear/gas) so I'm pretty close to your weight, towing in S4/Tow Haul will help to keep the transmission locked up and that will help to maintain a good temp. When the transmission is shifting and not locked up is when your temps climb. So far I haven't had an issue with temps but in SE Michigan we don't have steep grades to deal with so that helps too.

Yep, that's exactly what I do... Tow/Haul, S4 (I'll give it 5 on the flats IF it will hold it without unlocking)

I'll hold gears a bit longer on a grade, even if it'll pull a gear locked up on the climb but at lower RPM's I'll sometimes limit it to hold the lower gear to keep fluid pressure up and flowing, and limit the number of up/down shifts.

Toyota's don't mind some RPM's, and after my '00 Tundra with the 4.7 and only 3 gears w/OD off, this thing tows like a freaking dream.

What is the name for gear selection in OBD fusion? Do you have to customize the gauge in order to turn green when in TC lockup?

    Shift Status

On mine I have a gauge setup for the lockup that lights up all green in the back and then I have a gauge that lists the gear on top of the lockup gauge, so it is two gauges with on laid over the other.

I don’t remember the difference in temps before and after the cooler, but it was noticeable. Also noticeable is when the cooler is pinned open… remarkable how much cooler it is. a 7% grade pulling 8000# my tc temp is 225.

Anyway to share your setup configuration????

I would love to get this setup for when I am towing....I know Torque allows for layouts to be imported and exported.

If there is a way to export it...any chance you would be willing to share and send it to me in the PMs?

    For sure! Here you go
    https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/wojq...3709.stg?rlkey=b1ysiub8smurb0il33dkm5f6m&dl=0

There should be two dashboards, one as you have seen already (horizontal) and another with all the same gauges but oriented differently to allow for viewing on a vertical device.

Easiest way to import would be to link OBDFusion to your Dropbox or iCluod, save the file to either of those locations, then in OBDFusion go to Settings>Menu>Import Settings and select the file to be imported.

I have an OBDLink MX+ that I use with a tablet but yes you can use it with anything, it doesn't need internet to function. All of that is possible with the OBDLink MX+. Here is a photo of my setup. I used a dial gauge behind thr gear indicator for status of lock-up so it makes a circle around the gear when its locked. You can display engine oil temp but its not accurate because there is no oil temp sensor so the value is calculated from the AT fluid temp, my oil temp always just stayed what the AT temp was so I took it off.

Thx! After I finally figured out how to download and install your configurations, I ended up not using them.

The gauges etc, came in with default mpg or mph in everything.
I had a look into the configs and the pid’s we’re all wonkie an wrong.

my guess is either my 2002 uses different pid’s or the software virgins didn’t match up…

Oh well, but thx anyway, I will still be inspired by your successes!!!

Ah, well that sucks. But yeah, I'm sure there is a difference between my 2021 and your 2002, I know I was seeing people using different pid's with early 2nd gen trucks versus what I had to use for some reason. You could probably reconfigure the gauges with the correct pid's. Either way, glad I could inspire you, enjoy it's a fun tool to mess with.
