Been awhile since December and this thread has lots of great info. Installed the Fosgate subs at beginning of year behind rear seats with the Skar box. It comes ported and decided to run as is, even though the size was not right for ported. 2x Subs want a sealed box at 1.18 cf and the ported box was 1.2 cf. sure enough it did not hit right.

Upper frequencies hit very hard, but the lower range was butchered. Overall not very well balanced and just wasn’t right. Cut two pieces of 1x4 and stacked them. One that fit the hole and another an inch bigger all around to plug the port. With sealant and a decent amount of nails from the gun it is sealed now.

It sounds extremely good now. Overall very smooth and well balanced. Plays all songs very nicely. Natural sounds like drums, bass guitar, etc sound accurate and clean.
For rock, country, R&B, oldies, etc. I would not change a thing for the subs. Hip hop, rap, house, 12’s will get the extra low end.

Box is forward facing. I am very curious how it would sound rear facing. Has anyone tried the same setup front and rear and have comments about the performance?

Some pics of install. Box has spacers for drivers which is nice to ensure no rub rings. It fits very tight behind seats but works. Sound deadening on back wall. Cut a piece of plywood sprayed black for under driver seat. Will try and get a pic some time of that. Sits flush and leaves an opening for floor vent.

I had a JL 10" shallow mount in my 21 Tundra but decided to try Morel Ultimo Powerslim subs for my 25 limited. Heard a pair before and they sounded pretty nice.

I don't know that anyone's tested front vs rear firing, thing is you'd have to have 2 different boxes to truly test the same setups. Closest I can think someone could do without building boxes would be to test how the JL stealthbox sounds since it's rear firing, and then remount the pair of 10TW3's that come in the stealthbox into a front firing wedge box of the same airspace. Since MDF is cheap I may build both the front and rear firing boxes and test/see which I like more with my Wavetech. In theory rear firing should have more output due to corner loading but then it becomes a question of cost/benefit of increased output vs increased rattles from the rear wall area.

Depending on your budget, TrailGridPro sells totally plug and play Alpine and Sony head units, everything comes pre-wired and install takes maybe 30-60 mins, it's as easy as disconnecting your battery, popping the trim around the radio, undoing 4 bolts, pulling the radio, and then doing the reverse with the new radio. It gets a little more complicated if you're doing the wire harness yourself, but also Crutchfield also offers pre-wiring for a fee now, and AutoHarnessHouse make plug and play harnesses as well. Tons of good options out there. For a sub, there are a couple options, easiest/cheapest is a self powered sub that fits under a seat, only downside is less output than a full size sub, but they'll still fill in low end nicely and install is a breeze in most cases. Other option is a sub/amp, hardest part about that is running the power wire but even that's not too terrible in our trucks compared to other vehicles I've done. If you have a new radio, then it's as easy as running RCA's from the radio to the sub amp for input which is also pretty easy in our trucks. If you were to add a sub but keep the stock radio, adding an Audiocontrol LC2i or better yet a Kicker Key LOC or Kicker Key Mono Amp allows you to grab factory signal and improve it for a subwoofer channel. Plug and play harness from AutoHarnessHouse lets you grab signal from the factory amp under the passenger seat so no splicing wires. Shoot me a DM with budget etc. if you want some help on putting together a radio/sub system, or just a radio or sub, happy to help!

The Morel Powerslim 12 was on my list, but when I modeled it in WinISD a single had less output due to its xmax than some of the others on my list. That said, a pair had good output, and I'd wager they are a great SQ sub. I eventually plan on doing a front sub in the passenger footwell and the Powerslim is definitely on my list of contenders for that role.

Not sure about the best shallow sub yet but I posted a video on YouTube a while back playing my system and explained it a little bit. Short story is all my speakers are cerwin vega except for my subs. Cerwin vega sent me an email the other day and asked if I would review their vmaxx shallow 12's. Talked to them about it and to my surprise they sent me 2 vmaxx shallow 12's to review and keep . Then I had to ask for forgiveness from the wife because I ordered a pre-fab box to go behind the seats to put them in:notsure:. So hopefully in about a month or so I will have them in to review and if all goes well I run them for a bit, review then I'll wire the with the dd's I have under the seat and be running in 4 12's.:nuclear:20250319_151207.jpg

When I get my box built for my Wavetech I was debating doing a video/review of the sub since there's not a whole lot of info out there. Maybe they'll send me a second one and I'll upgrade to a pair of them rear firing :D

If you make it and test it, let us know. Any car I’ve had rear facing always sounded superior. The thought of the extra pressure on the rear glass section and messing with internals did have me thinking about that wear. But the whole car shakes when bumping it, so not sure if that’s a valid concern, lol.

At the moment I have a new audio control epic2000 but once I get done doing my testing I'm going to put the dds back on the audiocontrol and put these on a new Stinger mt1500 and run all 4 at 2 ohms.

I am running 2 sl612s and have been happy with them. An opportunity came up to try the cerwin vega subs so I jumped on it. After trying them I'm going all 4 and seeing what happens.:headbang:
I have been happy with the epic200 myself and rarely do I get rid of stuff but if it does happen I will let you know.

I have 2 JL 12TW3s on a jx500 amp. for the most part, they do the job. just waiting for a vendor to make a box for the 12's to sit behind the rear seats. currently those available are going around $600 and require a seat bracket to push out the seats so the enclosure will fit.

I'm hoping to have my box finished by the end of this week. It's for a single Wavtech thinPRO 12 which calls for 0.4-1.0 cf. My box should 1cf on the nose give or take a hundredth since it's kind of a hard shape to calculate the exact volume of. That said, my box/design could definitely be adapted to be taller (my height is 13.5" to leave room above for amps) if you're not mounting amps behind the seats. Design could also be adjusted to create a dual enclosure since the seat backs are the same on both sides. This is a sneak peak of the top down view of the design. Essentially a rear firing wedge box wherein the sub mount location is a different 2 angle wedge to account for the seat back.

    upload_2025-4-15_13-37-4.png
It's somewhat akin to the JL Stealthbox design for 2014-2021 crew max's.

It's going to be underpowered for awhile until I can afford a new amp for it, but even on the 500w I have on my 5 channel it'll be better than the fat load of nothing I've been cruising around with lol! I'm also excited to see how the CV's sound but more so how all 4 sound hahaha

The box I ordered off ebay for these cerwin-vega 12s behind the seat was $180 and for the most is a well made box. That being said the cerwin-vega's with a mounting depth of a little ove 3in fit fine with its basket design, the dd sl612s will not fit depth wise and the older memphis shallow 12s with a mounting depth of 3 inches won't fit due to basket design20250319_151246.jpg 20250411_113248.jpg

I agree, some is better than none, so far I'm happy with the cv's but I haven't put them through the ringer a whole lot yet but so far I like. Power handling and size is less than the dds but for somone looking to add bass to their crewmax tundra and not do any mods I would say they are a good option. The dds are 600 rms and the cv's are 400 rms

Guys I posted a thread about sub placement. Would you gentlemen be so kind as to provide a bit more data? It seems the passengers side single sub performs way better than dual subs or sub on the drivers side. I have been listening critically since Saturday and slowly making some tweaks and I swear a single sub on the passenger side behind the seat is better than 2 of the same subs running.

would you folks be willing to at least test the hypothesis.

it seems the low end issues with the stock system are placement more than equipment. Well, the jbl stuff sucks but it seems it’s in a dead spit or a null in the cabin compared to the drivers seat.

    I
This is my 1st setup behind the seat and the box is setup for 2 subs and I didn't have the jbl sub to begin with so I have nothing to compare but I can say if the seats are down it makes a good bit of difference than having the seats folded up. Folded up let's the subs shine

Mine is set up for 2 as well and there are two but I unhooked the driver side to test. That’s all I was asking if you could do the same and give your thoughts.
I’m actually going to remove the driver side sub and probably sell it. I’ll just make an amp rack where that sub was.

No guarantee when but I may try that one day, I just got these in and they are wires together at 2 ohms and just got the seats back in and it feels good to not mess with it for a bit if I don't have to but I believe your theory is possible being it's on the passenger side and your on the driver side so it's not having to pass through 2 sets of seats theoretically to get to your ears..... if that makes any sense at all

Unhooked, It will act as a passive radiator and still have an affect on the other subs performance as it affects the internal air pressure of the box.
