This is what I use in both my 4.7L and 5.7L Tundra motors.

Well...from my readings on bobs oil the regular 0w-40 will shear to a 30 as it has to meet certain epa guidlines and has added viscosity modifiers that contribute to the shear. The esp doesn't require them. I've been running the European 40 and ESP 30 weight since 2012. Last 3 changes I've been using the ESP, supposed to have extra additives for gear/valve/bearing support as does the supercar one. Esp is easier to find and cheaper than supercar stuff. Penzoil platinum is up there in stability/additives as is Valvoline advanced. Oil companies are changing up their formulas to meet bubblegum guidlines...
Too much oil stuff to read.

    Yessss! More oil talk!

Same as always, just keep oil and decent filters in our trucks. It’s been mentioned before, but has anyone ever had a Tundra engine fail due to an oil issue?

My standard is basic-ass Kirkland 0w20 or 5w30 that I order from Costco when on sale. $16 per gallon. Filters are OEM from either Amazon or Toyota dealer.

I religiously change oil and filter at 5,000 miles. That’s 5-6 oil changes per year with the miles I put on. I’ll be due for my 185K change in a couple weeks on my 2018.

And just between us girls, I’ve been known to mix the 0w20 and 5w30 if I have partial bottles. I even used some green oil that was spec’d for my wife’s 2020 VW turbo motor to get rid of it after we sold the car.

I doubt I’ll blow up my motor any time in the next hundred thousand miles, or more…

Again; fresh oil, good filters, regular intervals. It’s a very forgiving engine to lubricate.

Yes its a very controversial topic that gets going every so often. I agree with your post.
I mix 30 and 40 weights. I run specific oil as I'll spend time in the 5-6400rpm range. Just want a decent oil to lube the engine.

    Ain’t that the troof…

I’m a little more tame, and limit myself to a mere 6,300 rpm.
