Most oil change places use recycled oil, its best to just buy your own (I use Mobile one) and do it yourself.

I have to change my oil soon. Will be buying 0-20 pennzoil platinum, will get 2 5qt jugs from walmart and then put in for the $22 rebate from pennzoil. I am not very fussy on oil as long as it meets specs. So I will get 1 jug for free! The best kind.

I am really interested to know what Toyota dealership use. I looked at our 4Runner oil change receipts and there is a “bulk oil” reference

If you want the best get Amsoil. If I lived close to a warehouse and didn’t have to pay shipping I’d use that. As of now I’m using Shell Rotella Gas Truck 0w-20

They always have it at the Merrimack location. If not I’ll online order it for curbside.

Any certified oil will do the trick...but for what it’s worth I find TGMO (Toyota genuine motor oil) to be one of the quietest. And Mobil 1 AFE being one of the noisiest... Does this mean anything? Probably not... I do like the Mobil 1 EP a lot. Pennzoil is good too but I always lean towards Mobil for no particular reason but brand loyalty.

The dealership that I send my Corolla and my wife’s Highlander specifically states Mobil 1 synthetic on all of their oil changes receipts. I get coupons all the time through Toyotaowners.com. I rarely pay more than $50 for a dealership oil change.

This is a good question. On another forum, there's a guy stating to use 0W-30 or even -40 for lessened engine wear, however at the expense of fuel economy.

Dear Lord this topic is so stupid frustrating. Just some simple facts and your fine.
    1. Use a synthetic oil that is API, PQIA, ACEA Europe stamped. One of the three will be normal.
    2. Toyota OEM oil is made by Mobil 1 with a few adjustments to additives particularly molybdenum. Has been made by Mobil 1 for many years and as of today is still made by Mobil 1. When an article in BillyBob's Offroad Monthly says its not then go buy some Slick50 cause your BillyBob also says it's awesome. Back to step 1, yes Toyota OEM oil is fully synthetic.
    3. Use what the manual says. My friend Cooter knew this guy Bart who once worked at a Walmart that was next to a What-a-Burger and the head patty cook said he uses a different weight oil so that proves the 500 Toyota Engineers are wrong for suggesting 0W-20. Go out to your garage right now and drain all the oil and refill it with water. No special water needed just your regular tapwater will be fine. You then can come back on this forum and say how incredibly quiet the motor ran so that proves water is the best. I promise you your motor will run incredibly quiet for a couple of minutes and then be super crazy quiet for the rest of its time on earth. So quiet you'll swear its not even running.
    4. The Engineers don't give a rats ass about what you choose to believe. Run whatever oil you want, they literally don't care. But when they toss you a bill for $6000 for a complete rebuild just take that bill to your buddies friends sisters cousin and have them pay it.
    5. Go back to Step 3 about the Engineers suggesting you use 0W-20. Well guess what, their not suggesting, they are stating it in print with no amendments or alternatives(yes Sherlock, I know you can use 5W-20 but its a temp solution only). If you ever read your manual you will see with several fluids they will give the "or equivalent" phrase. They are giving you permission to use another fluid like Amsoil or Mobile 1 if it meets all the fluid requirements of the OEM standard. If it does not give you that little phrase then your risking not be covered on a repair. I 100% understand that you can show your Toyota Service Manager the YouTube video that shows the coolant you used from the Dollar Store is perfect for your Toyota but it was so high in silicates that the seals and aluminum corrosion will be devastating.

I use 0w30 just because I want to. 0w20 runs like water when I drain it. I know manual stated 0w20 and all the benefits but I like how my truck runs on 0w30. I didn't notice any mileage difference and engine runs strong and quite.....and I change every 5000km.......I know...I know.....I don't go by the book and it's very fine by me...lol.
