I did the HKB fuse like you. I really think you definitely had a one off lemon. And, I remember reading you had difficulty with Batteries Plus, too. That really sucks.

I went to Batteries plus and bought a Duracell 27FM vs the 27F. 840cca vs 710cca in the standard 27F. Price difference between the two was minimal. So far so good. My original battery lasted about five months.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    Houston.

    Batteries last ~3 years.

    I go to walmart.

    Whatever is on sale.

For my kids - ('15 4runner & '18 highlander) I change out every 3 years. as I don't want them stranded in the "wild"of Houston.

Batteries plus. Napa, Sams club, O'riellys and I am sure a few more companies batteries are all made by East Penn. Never heard many complaints about them.

Same in Southern Arizona, until I tried the Northstar/ X2 batteries. At over 5 years in my Silverado, it was still going strong. I replaced it with another one (because it was over 5 years old in Southern Arizona)and gave the truck to my son.
I figured I should just buy one for my Tundra, too. And it didn't need a battery yet

Interesting that the Autozone/Duralast chart says their AGM battery is better in every category including temperature and longevity.

What issues were you seeing with AGM batteries?

in order of my preference - flip that for price.

Reality is any of those listed are “good” - it’s just how much you buy into the Oddysey-Ootima superior technology.

Got an Optima in my Tundra after 3 Toyota branded batteries in 4 months and an alleged vampire draw from the aftermarket amp that they could never show me in service. 15 months with an Optima Yellow and never had a single issue. Would have went odyssey but supply chain and the Optima was in stock.

That's what I've got my eye on for when I need a new battery. I tend to look for the highest CCAs I can find for cold starts up here. This was the highest CCAs I could find without going to AGM.

Not that I'm aware of, I'll have to check it out.
In the 10 or so years I've been using them I only warrantied one it was 30 months old
I killed it jumpstarting a diesel air compressor a few times on cold mornings

I believe Walmart has 1yr. 2yr and 3 yr warranties. Depends on which battery you buy.

I went with X2 with the fuse...have had it for a few years and drop it on CTEK charger once in a while...no issues.

YOLO on Cheap Everstarts from Walmart. Just got 6 yrs out of my 65 model 750 CCA in my F150. For $100 plus tax it’s hard to beat honestly.

Just got a new one this evening manufacturer date 1/23. We will see how long it last. Core I turned in today was made in 3/17. 2 year warranty also.

I personally think most the generic ones off the shelves at auto parts stores all about the same. The price difference depends on store selling and the “label” they slap on it.

Once you get into high end cost you start to get ones actually manufactured for quality.

According to Project Farm, his testing indicates (suprisingly) the Walmart branded EverStart beat even the deep cycle Optima and all other batteries. And they are the cheapest. I went out and got one after seeing his video, and its been fantastic so far.
