I do …. He’s 15. I have nieces and nephews that are always here that play hide n seek. I don’t want to take that risk that one of them will get their hands on it.

That only comes out rarely. Last time was when two individuals a couple years ago at 4:30 in the morning were shooting at each other with AR's. I just had mine out watching. If rounds started coming this way....

Those two idiots couldn't shoot worth a shit. 30+ rounds shot and nobody got hit from under 100 yards. Just goes to show what adrenalin does to your body.

It would likely be meth/molly/fentanyl around here. These is a cartel owned house not far from here. Everyone watches what's going on with that place. Homeland/FBI/ATF have been in the area a lot.

    That makes perfect sense.
If I were in the same position I'd do the same.
Dont remember if I mentioned this but my Brothers ex Wife had two kids that were raised in a household that didnt have guns.
    They were from Minnesota.
She was Shitting Bricks when She found out I'd taken them shooting at our weekend place.
The way I look at it is it's better to expose them firearms under controlled circumstances than let them discover firearms in a less controlled atmosphere.
Here in Texas it's going to happen eventually so I figured it was better to teach them about firearm safety now than let them come across them with no safety training.
In my mind it was crazy that She thought otherwise.

While I hate to admit it shooting guns with a slight alcohol buzz is WAY better than shooting completely sober!!!
Of course when you've had the rules pounded in your head since you were five the risk is minimal.
Nothing better than shooting a pile of tannerite with a little Buzz!!!
We found all kinds of inventive ways of shooting tannerite just to make it more interesting!!
Like stuffing a Watermelon with the Stuff!!!
    Or a Pork Butt!!
We used to float it out on the lake and shoot it!!
It sent up a huge column of Water!!
And you'd occasionally kill a few fish.

I need to paint my M4. Black rifles are easy to spot. Painted the AR10 and that turned out pretty good.

I'm not talking about getting hammered and shooting.
    Just a few beers.
We know when it's time to put away the guns because we all know shit happens when you drink to excess.
    Guns or no guns.
And with gun safety being hammered into your head since your first BB Gun it becomes automatic.
I've taken people shooting with zero experience with firearms, those are the people you need to worry about.
They'll casually paint you when turning around even though you've told them the rules repeatedly.
We even have a table set up and tell them when you stop shooting you immediately place the gun on the table after engaging the safety.
And the firearm should be pointed down range at all times.

    And you have to remember.
This is way out in the boonies so there's not likely to be anyone around.
And we shoot into a large berm for the most part.

Dont know about Y'all but two beers with lunch is hardly going to make me intoxicated.
Hell, you can pass a breathalyzer after drinking two beers.
So if the Police are fine with you driving after a couple beers I dont see the issue.
And again, with firearm safety pounded into your head since you were a little kid two beers isnt going to make you reckless.
Would I shoot after a six pack?
    Of course not!!
And again two beers are not going to affect your judgement or coordination.
Unless of course you weigh 40 lbs.

Not altogether true. Depends on a few factors like weight, height, chemical makeup. I knew a Navy Seal who drank 1 beer and and was borderline 3 sheets to the wind. He is 6'6", well build and had the weight of a defensive end. During the time I associated with him, he had been involved in multiple rear end accidents (his fault). I wouldn't trust him with a weapon after 1 or more beers at any time. There are many more people like him that can't hold their liquor. If you can still function after 2 beers w/o making any costly mistakes, then hats off to you. By the way, you don't have to fail a breathalyzer test to get arrested. It can be any amount of liquor reading on the breathalyzer if the arresting officer can show you were in fact affected by the amount consumed. Although not the usual way things go, unless you were involved in an accident, or any other incident to show cause, etc.

As I mentioned weight has a lot to do with it as does tolerance.
While a breathalyzer tests the amount of alcohol in your system it doesnt test tolerance.
You may have two people that weigh the same some are more tolerant than others.
And some process alcohol at faster rates.
If you get arrested and blow below the legal limit any halfway decent lawyer will get you off.
Of course if you're stumbling around and blow below the limit they'll suspect you have something else in your system.
And you can refuse a breathalyzer test as well as blood tests, which lawyers recommend.
While you may spend the night in jail thats going to happen anyway whether you blow or not.

Yes a decent lawyer can get you off. But, depending on circumstances may only be able to get it kicked down to a reckless. In Ca, a DUI stays on your record for 10 yrs and a reckless for 7. But after completing your probation, an individual can petition for expungement and if successful, could tell a future employer no to a criminal conviction, however will not remove the DUI from the driving record or prevent it from being used in future legal matters. And of course can be very costly. Shooting clubs that have an attached restaurant and bar, will prevent you from entering the range for 48hrs once you enter the bar/restaurant if they want to remain in business.

In this day and age, I seriously don't see why any responsible person would choose to mix drinking and shooting. Just because you can do something doesn't mean it is a good idea. I don't care how alcohol-tolerant you are.

    We see eye to eye.

I'm a freedom kind of guy. More regulation is bad for everyone. If someone wants to lock up their weapons I'm not going to say a damn thing but give positive feedback. Who am I to tell someone else how to run their household?

Same with many other topics. Cell phone use while driving for example. However, it seems that people can't govern themselves and the reason situations like these give all the ammunition to others for placing regulations upon everyone.

However, I don't associate with these kinds of people either. I would pack up my things and drive away.

I have had a serious altercation with two drunk/one sober with my buddies while camping/off-roading. Weapons were drawn and three people almost died that night in front of my oldest daughter (3 at the time). That was a sporty night and even more so in the morning (they came back a bit more sober) with not good intentions. Again, they seen the business end of my barrel. The sober one was so freaked out he left his campsite and drove throughout the night back home. He ended up being 17 years old and just met these guys a couple hours prior. Come to find out, that was the son of someone I would off-road with from time to time. His son told the truth and I explained exactly what happened. He described our rigs and he knew who we were. Guess he was pretty shaken up.

I also would never admit to doing something like this on an open forum. That bites people in the ass more than people realize.
