    @Rebel Tundra Man you should definitely look into a hard cover with the weather you have. The soft cover might not hold up that well in your elements. The extra security of a hard cover is good too.

    @TwistedTad and @Hbjeff I'm still intrigued by this registration loophole. Do you have to have it inspected by the CHP? Does the shell installer submit a form?

    I'm gonna do some Googling. I like this idea if I can save a buck.

    What I posted earlier regarding the camper shell was from the DMV website. So that is what you need. It looks like the DMV inspects it.

    I found a like new OEM Toyota bedliner on CL for $75, bed mat on top of that, capped with a tri fold tonneau. BedRug on tailgate. Done...

    This is what I did and it is fantastic!! Bed mat keeps things from sliding around and Tri-fold can be opened for full access to bed.
