The bed on my '07 RCSB bounced pretty bad when I purchased it last year, I expected some bounce because of the short wheel base and empty bed.

Among other things, I dropped the rear with an SOS flip-kit, added a rear sway bar and Air-lift bags. The bed no longer bounces, and the ride is smooth & predictable.

Rent a ball joint press, all the shops have them and return all your money when you bring it back. It will be much more helpful than those cheap pullers. Might have to use a socket if the press doesn’t have the right size.

Hey man, I’m in Denver as well and know exactly what you’re talking about. Especially cement highways. I experienced this with my stock setup, my lift with 1” rear blocks and my lift with toytec shackles.

I finally found the solution. @Coachbuilder1 shackles. I put the +2’s on mine since I have a lift but if you don’t have a lift the +1 would help tremendously. I hated going over 65mph before I got these and now no matter the speed or terrain it’s such a nice riding truck.

@Coachbuilder1 put a video together for how to install them https://youtu.be/zmJ6Xjjtpe8.

Coachbuilder bushings help as well, which come with the shackles. Use a ball joint press to get the factory ones out.

I know toytec is slightly cheaper but I promise you will be happier going with Coachbuilder. It will be the best $285 you spend. The toytec shackles are the same ones they use for the older Tacoma’s... I just don’t think they’re made for a big truck like a Tundra and honestly no better than stock.

Please reach out to me with any questions. I know how annoying bed bounce can be. It was such a relief when I drove my truck after putting the Coachbuilder shackles on.

25 in castle rock does suck but 285 thru Indian hills is the worst. Curious what everyone that is experiencing this has for shocks. I have a grade model, so the black shocks. A friend is going to give me an extra set of bilsteins that he has, I'll let you.know if it improves. I'm in the same boat of I cant do lift shackles as it's a working and towing truck.
Btw, a loaded car trailer does not make it any better:eek:

In my opinion shocks only do so much for the rear suspension, especially preventing bed bounce. Leaf springs are the biggest factor.

The +1 Coachbuilder shackles would greatly improve your ride quality. They will only lift your rear end a hair over a 1/2 inch. If you tow a lot, even a better reason to add bigger shackles. I towed today for the first time since I added mine and it made a huge difference.

has anyone used poly bushings with stock shackles and springs? the bushings i've seen all say they only fit with lift springs (different eye size maybe???), but i've only begun my research there.

I've installed the coach builder bushings with stock shackles and it certainly reduced the rear end hop and shuddering post bump. Like others I don't want any lift which is why I avoided the shackles. For the time and money it was a worthwhile upgrade for me.

    Hope this helps.

The shackles come with a carrier bearing drop kit which lowers that. I believe this is what you are talking about. @Coachbuilder1

My 2007 Crewmax does it as well. Only on certain roads though. I haven't really noticed it in a while. I've put the bilstein 5200s up front at 1.4" setting, added steel bumpers front and rear all at the same time two years ago. I don't remember noticing it after that. I have added air bags this past summer. Not sure if one or all things combined effected it. The Toyota fix was replace rear cab mounts with a superseded part but I never did it. I thought Toyota had corrected this on later models but it sounds like they didn't.

@Coachbuilder1 Am I able to just buy bushings and swap the stock bushings? If so, is that one of the sets at ~$50?

Yes, All though our poly bushing kit is specifically designed to work with our shackles we've had many just upgrade the rear eyelet bushings. this provides a smoother pivot but does not address the other faults in the suspension. We worked hand in hand with the engineers at Energy Suspensions in order to not only come up with the correct compound but the over all profile.

Thanks! Just looking at what I could possibly talk the wife into letting me purchase this close to the holidays. $50 is easier to sell than nearly $300.

I've never had an issue. However, my rig came with the TRD rear stabilizer bar. I added the Coachbuilder shackles, but not because of bed hop. Perhaps the stabilizer bar will help?

I have a 2007 CM TRD that experiences bed hop pretty bad. I also have a 2014 DC with a canopy and sway bar and it still has bed hop, but not nearly as bad.

Just ordered the bushings. Hoping it will at least make a small difference. Can look at the shackles down the road a bit. I know I have to press the old ones out, but, do you have a video or tutorial on how to properly put your bushings in? They look like they are 2 pieces per eyelet, and maybe have a collar? Cheers!

Put 600 pounds in the Bed. I have the 8.1 bed on a 2018 SR. I avoid the 25 through Denver. The slabs of concrete are poured at just the right width and the slabs are just heaved enough that the Tundra starts to bounce. Weight is the only thing that helps without mods. With only a 1600# weight cap in the bed, I did not foresee an issue like this. Rest assured, that piece of road feels bad in my 2011 Regular cab Tacoma, as well. Northbound more than south.

CM’s generally don’t have near the issue with bed bounce that DC’s do, wouldn’t surprise me if the sway bar was helping you.

With mine, the bounce is all four corners, not just the back wheels. The WHOLE truck bounces down the I25!

Your wheelbase is even longer than my DC with the standard 6.5' bed. I thought it was more in the range of the DC wheelbase. My buddies Titan is a similar wheelbase and he has bed bounce too.

If I am on Blacktop, not poured concrete, the Tundra rides like a Cadillac. At all speeds. Even other poured concrete highways, like the I70, or the 25 south of Denver, no issues at all. It is that one stretch of the 25, and a couple select sections on the c-470. I say the road is defective, not the truck! It was so bad by the Ikea by Greenwood Village, they just put down blacktop instead of fixing the new concrete. On a 12 lane freeway! Asphalt! The contractor in charge of that project must have goofed big time for a fix that temporary to be needed.

    Thank you for your order..

A day or 2 before installing spray each side of the rear leaf spring eyelets with Zep or PB blaster anything to get them wet. Then using a ball joint press tool ( Can be borrowed from Advance Auto parts or Autozone ) you'l be able to push the OE bushings out. Be sure to remove your spare tire before removing your factory shackles and lower the rear axle down away from the frame rails. Our Poly bushing kit will install very easily and will see a full write along with tips highlighted in our install guide. This will be in with your parts. Please follow up if you need an hand with anything else.

I found this general video using the Ball joint press tool and should help,

    this thread is funny..

ive spent 10k on 16" 3.0 triple bypass shocks, Deaver SUA custom leafs, a bed cage, air bumps and more... and guess what I still have .. you guessed it bed bounce...

there are mitigation strategies for it to reduce feel and effects, but harmonics in freeways, wheelbase, frame design and suspension geometry all play into it as factors, yes leafs, shocks and other parts may reduce the feel of it, but it will happen regardless maybe to a lesser extent or less noticeable effect. There is a TSB for 07-10 Double cabs, but im not sure how well the "fix" actually helps

Its just the nature of the tundra. Just like the damn gas milage convo. Its a 5.7 liter 1/2 ton gas truck that weights 6500lbs... its not going to get prius milage and if you believe the epa sticker #'s i also have some ocean front beach property in Arizona to sell you...

I noticed it happening on mine after I lifted it with a add a leaf. But only on certain stretches of concrete highways.

That wouldn’t surprise me one bit on weight over tires, the DC’s would have their weight more over the front.

My 2017 CM TRD is plagued with bed bounce on concrete highways as well. It was annoying with the original 275/65-18 tires. I just upgraded to a 285/65-18 e rated tire and it is absolutely terrible now. Seeking the best solution to at least reduce it to a tolerable level.
Suspension is stock TRD with no rear sway bar. I am considering spring bushing and rear shock upgrade myself.
