The turbo tundra step is electric powered up and down with the tailgate so what happens with a load of 2x4x10s with tailgate down? I guess i tear it off at the next curb

    That made me laugh

I assume there will be some nature of an override for that? Although, who knows…

Manual says you can close it using a switch in the cab (left of steering wheel) or it automatically closes at 3mph.

    Integrated bed steps require.... nothing:boink:

Every section probably has at least one nanny - I just searched for "power bed step". It is pretty cool to have the manuals already

A friend of mine has one and that thing terrifies me every time I try to use it.
His does not deploy or stow well at all and it is not sturdy when in use either.
    Good idea but.....
And his tailgate looks OK and not all beat up too.

The GM style notched bumper seems like an ideal solution to me but I can understand why Toyota did not try a version of it too.sort of.

Get it. It works GREAT. Here are the pix from my install. (FYI, being 5'6" and not having the greatest of knees - or feet - this thing ROCKS.)

    20210322_132201.jpg

    Tools needed. Not many.
    20210322_132021.jpg

Tailgate folded up and ladder stowed.
    20210322_123525.jpg

Tailgate open and ladder stowed. If you want to slide something into the box, then just unfold the ladder while you slide it in.

For us short guys who might not be as nimble as we were when we were in our 40's, this thing is the cat's meow.

how much adjustment... I have an 8" lift on 37's... hahahaha... I can hop in and out without a problem but this could be nice for camping, etc.

Description says "Can be mounted on the left or right side of the tailgate on pretty much any truck with heights 28" to 45"."

Works for me wherever my truck is parked, whether it's on the level or on a slope. But I have a stock suspension. So far.

I watched a youtube video about the new 2022 platinum version. When he opens the tailgate, there was an automatic drop down small step at the corner of the left hand side. Once you close the gate....it retracts back. I bet this is another option $$$

speaking of this... I am looking to add this same feature (non auto) to my truck. when looking at the AMP Research models it states "without resin bumpers" I have the color matched bumpers... the bumper is metal underneath but has the resin caps... any what the correct step may be? There isn't another option to buy for my truck.

Start taking yoga. If you can lift your leg high enough to reach the bumper, its only 3" more tops to reach the tailgate. Start stretching, its good for you. Put a little grip tape on the inside of the tailgate if it helps.

My word, how out of shape are you guys? You really can't get into the bed of your truck without help? How about leaving the tail-gate up, stepping on the rear bumper and then swinging a leg over the tailgate. Surely ya'll can manage this.

There is another option, the OEM one. I do believe that AMP Research was just covering their a** because Toyota did issue a recall for several Tundras with resin bumpers. Anyways, the OEM bumper step (Part Number PT39234140) says it's good for '14-'21 Tundras. I'm guessing it's just a rebranded AMP Research one anyway. You can also find the OEM one cheaper than the AMP Research one. I'm about to order the OEM one and this thread says it's easier to just cut part of the bracket, rather than installing the replacement one.

My dad has this installed on his turd gen. Or is it 2.5th gen? The non-Pro one, it's a 2017. Anyway, retired Navy hydraulics mech in his late 60s, knees suck, and he absolutely loves that thing. It's super sturdy and well-constructed. Makes it much easier for him to get in the truck, load and unload, get his fishing poles off the ceiling of his cap, or get the canoe off the roof. I used it while unloading fire wood on his last trip to see the grandkids (let's be real, they're more important than my wife or I). Feels really sturdy when secured, doesn't rattle at all.
