That’s alright. Never a bad thing to revive a relevant thread. The bed bounce is real.

Yep, new member and that's exactly why I'm here. Got a 2021 in October here in Utah and the bounce on some parts of the interstate here have almost become too much. The truck came with a leveling kit but they used the stock shocks so I am getting the shocks replaced with Bilsteins (I know, I read that nothing works in this thread) tomorrow to hopefully make it a little more bearable. I will report back because at this point for me it's trade the truck in for another truck and have to pay another down payment, or put the money into trying to make the bed bounce more bearable on the truck I like.

And its not just on Tundra trucks, my 4Runner does it too when rear is empty, full tank of gas doesn't settle it down much. 500-900 pounds between rear seats/rear storage does it Just Right, ahhhhh!

I feel your pain. Some concrete roads are just miserable. I had Bilstiens as well. I tried 500lbs over the axle and near tailgate and the roads I traveled made no material difference in the bounce. I ended up trading the 19 crewmax with 10k miles on it for a Sequoia since the bed got rarely used. Keep in mind I got 500 less than I paid for the tundra a year and half ago so you should be good on your trade value.

I have a 2021 Pro and have not noticed bed bounce, and the roads where I live are terrible. Not sure, but it may be dampened by the better shocks on the Pro.

For me it's only on concrete interstates which are basically every interstate here except for the stretch by the dealership which is asphalt.

Not sure where you are, but the section of road on 80 right before and after Parley's in SLC is the worst. I have a 900lb camper on mine and it's still miserable.

Don't take your Tundra down 89 in Northern AZ in Navajo Nation. I bounced down that entire road a couple weeks ago...

Yeah, if the shocks do absolutely nothing I might go trade for a Tacoma. Which sucks cause I really like this truck.

That section is bad in my girlfriends CX5 with snowtires, in my truck I want to murder people.

I used 4 - 60 lb sand tubes stacked two high on each side all the way in the right behind and slightly over the rear wheel arch. I found that putting them all the way back takes out the bed bounce while still close enough to the axels to help with the axle hop.

cheap way to address the ride

At this point it seems to be the exception to have a Tundra that doesn't rattle the sh*t out of you on multiple surface types in our part of the country. I do love the truck and its look and I can't imagine what I would buy as an alternative, but the ride really is atrocious on anything but asphalt.

I came from F-150s, both recent and older generations, and the Pro rides significantly better than all of them. Maybe I don't know what to look for, but I've never experienced the rattle or the bed bounce described in this thread.

I'll admit that this is my first truck and I come from three consecutive Honda Accords. Love the ride on anything but the concrete freeways. Not sure if the issue is as widespread with the Tacomas; someone in the thread did mention having bounce in their 4Runner. The bounce with my Tundra is just so debilitatingly bad in those spots that I'm having serious buyer's remorse.

Also, a question for the thread: can the Fox shocks get "broken-in" and reduce the bounce over time? This was told to me by a mechanic at the dealership I purchased the truck from, and it didn't really sit well with me, but I am definitely not a Toyota-certified mechanic.

I have a 2020 TRD Sport. I really never noticed any bed bounce. Then again, i only drive the truck on the weekends and only out to dinner with the wife. I take the truck on long vacation trips in the summer, but I am pulling a 27' travel trailer. Now I'm very curious what this bed bounce is. I live in the North East, so our roads are terrible, so I should feel the so called bed bounce. Interesting

I just installed coachbuilder shackles yesterday. My bed bounce is all but gone. My kids’ voices don’t do the stutter thing anymore that they think is really fun. If I’m really paying attention, I can still feel it a tiny bit, but really the truck just feels like any other vehicle going over those awful concrete seams in the road.

I’m not saying it’ll work for everyone, but I’m on Pro suspension and CB shackles. It wasn’t completely terrible before, but it isn’t really noticeable now.

If I still had the bounce, I’d get some cheap and heavy sandbags.

Judging by the fact that some here have this bounce and others don't, leads me to believe that it probably has something to do with the shocks/tires Toyota uses for different trim levels. My Sport with the stock 20"crappy tires and what they call "Sport tuned Bilstein shocks" doesn't have this problem at all, even with an empty bed. Hard to tell from the comments here, but i wonder if this problem is more prevalent in the C/M v.s. the D/C. :monocle:

My dc had it really bad. Didn’t matter what tires, LT or 35s. Stock shocks, icon shocks.

    coachbuilder shackles did help

You will only notice it if you drive a lot of concrete highways that are layed down in sections and usually you can find a speed to reduce it. Pavement roads have never caused the bounce in my experience.
Trim levels don’t have anything to do with it IMO. The PRO shocks may dampen it a bit.

It has to be our frame length/flex combined with the suspension harmonics. I am curious if guys with different lead springs experience it. On highways our back frame half gets into a flexing rhythm and I believe the nasty chop feeling occurs when the frame whips back towards earth at the same time our suspension is moving up, so the forces hit each other.

Remember years ago, on the gen 1 tacoma, they had really flexy frames just like ours. It was very popular to weld plates on the outside of the frame rail from the back of the cab over the axle. This stiffed up that section big time. Everyone sold kits for it. I wonder if we could do the same? Easier than boxing in the inner frame rail channel

My truck doesn't have bed bounce... at least not that I know of, and I rack up alot of miles on it all over the country. Is it something you feel or something you see in your rearview mirror?

Don’t the shackles raise the rear height even more? I would think for stock trucks this would look even more strange with the rear end higher?

I don't think it's much of an issue with the DBL cabs. My DBL cab does not do it but I carry a rack and tent full time. I had a 2008 Crewmax that did it and it was very noticeable. Also I think Toyota may have addressed the issue with the later models?

On my 2008 Crew you could just watch the the gap between the bed and the cab. They move differently. Or just ignore it and continue driving your truck. Probably better you don't know about it cuz it will start to bother you, that is what happened to me.

Im hopeful they go fully boxed frame next time with coils in the rear

I will also admit the older I get the more Im getting tired of getting my teeth rattled loose on these crappy roads around here.

the sand tubes I have has made it tolerable for now

the longer wheel base will still flex, but the harmonics are different than the standard wheelbase of the dc/cm

2021 double cab and it's a huge issue. But like I said mine came new from the dealership with a leveling kit and the stock shocks. So it's in the shop right now getting new bilsteins on and hopefully that makes it a little more bearable.
... actually going to pick it up now so I'll know here real soon.
