Yup. I live just east of Park City and run up and down Parley's on occasion. It's steep, long, fairly high and hot in the summer. Certainly seems more difficult than the Davis Dam run they do use.

My Jeep Liberty diesel and F150 Ecoboost have both had the temp needles start to creep right climbing it in the summer on 100F days without a trailer. They never overheated but if I had a trailer in tow it would have been rough. I've never actually towed it with my trailer because I never need to go that way.

Thats one thing that looks very promising about the new Tundra. Its got a VERY substantial cooling system for a half ton.

    And the lack of oxygen.

My friends have the F-150 EB and they don't tow worth a shit up Parleys Canyon and they have many issues...They now own F350 Tremors.

My 03 Sequoia labored up Parley's with seven occupants. haha

TFL on YouTube just did their assessment over the past 5months of owning a 22. They estimated 4000miles towing and seemed to like it.

The cooling system in the 2011-2014 F150's is very undersized for the amount of power it makes. The radiator is smaller than my 2011 Lexus GX, no joke. It will pull like a locomotive until it overheats though.

2015+ the radiators did get a bit bigger and then in 2018 they got even bigger. But still, if you push them, they get hot. A Mishimoto radiator upgrade seems to cure it in the 2015+ trucks.

My 2014 with a Mishimoto radiator and intercooler upgrade pulls very well now. If I really got into a tough situation(hot day, headwind, and a grade) I still think it would get warm but I could maintain 60mph on the grades, which is completely reasonable. I think what happens with the Ecoboost is that it does things so effortlessly that you think it can pull ridiculous grades a 70 mph. It can, and will, until it gets hot. If you were in a truck with a V8, you would likely be slowing down anyways simply because it doesnt have the HP. My GX with 301 HP will be foot to the floor doing 55 mph in good conditions. A headwind and high temps and my GX absolutely struggles and would probably drop down to 40 mph.

My GX coolant never gets hot though. I can be foot on the floor on a 100F day pulling my trailer up a 7% grade and the thing will stay right around 200F. You hear the mechanical fan come online and it just sits there. Transmission fluid was a different story though. Mine would get up close to 250F pulling Wolf Creek pass and then the climb from Vernal up towards flaming gorge at 35mph.

That's EXACTLY what the Sequoia would do...

    Good info about the radiator.

I have the 2022 SR5 CrewMax with TRD Offroad, and my travel trailer is 21' Lance 1685, 5,500 lbs loaded.
I have done three camping trips and here are my comments:
    -the Tundra makes towing enjoyable
-the BSM operates great and along with my trailer's observation camera makes towing safer
-my rear end sags about 1.5" and I am thinking that is the price U pay for coil springs vs. leaf spring
-I think I am close to having my Blue Ox WDH dialed in after adjusting the ball hitch height twice and using different
tensions on the bars, the front end of my trailer is still very slightly higher. I may drop the ball one more time.
-I am curious of how much payload, tongue weight, WDH adjustments all interact to get a trailer level. It seems that the coil springs make leveling a bit more complicated?

The Tundra tows my trailer comfortably and I don't get buffeted by 18 wheelers. In good weather, the Tundra easily tows at 70-75 and feels safe. On Sunday, we drove on a crowded interstate through a canyon with 30-45 mph winds, I dropped the speed to 60-62 mph and the Tundra did fine.

When we camp, we typically see lots of examples of people using tow vehicles that are way undersized for their trailers. The 22 Tundra is a strong tower for a light duty truck and I think I would feel very comfortable towing up to about a 7,500 travel trailer.

Towed a featherlite 2 place horse trailer with 2 horses this weekend on a regular route I’ve done for years, estimate weight at 5000lbs total, new 22 pulls great transmission does not hunt or hang and mileage is at least 25% better than the 19 it replaced, doesn’t seem to squat the new truck anymore than the old.

The boat/trailer dry is ~6,800 lbs. It's a 23' Mastercraft boat, so I'd venture to guess the trailer including tongue is 26-28'. With fluids and gear I'd estimate 7,200-7,500 lbs total.

Trying to pick up a sailboat today. The weight of it on trailer is 6,000 lbs so no problem with 2011 Tundra with Timbrens, EXCEPT I can’t drop my bed camper (don’t have the jacks) which weighs 2,000 lbs. I need to take it over 2 Mountain passes from Denver to Eagle and I am scared of braking on the downhills or messing up my truck. Anyone have advice on if I am asking for trouble and should borrow a different truck. Maybe @ColoradoTJ or others? Thank you so much, I appreciate it as I am worried!

You are already over on payload capacity with the camper. Add 10% tongue weight from the boat (~600 lbs) and your rear axle is going to be mad at you. Do you have to move the boat today?

Yeah today is my day to move it, it does already sit low with camper. Maybe I can borrow a family members truck.

Not sure about having 3000lbs of combined weight on your rear axle for long distance.

****MOD EDIT. We do not allow images of overweight vehicles****

I don’t understand any of this stuff, and I tow have a small older toy hauler camper, a 7x14 enclosed trailer with two Scag mowers and a bunch of other equipment in it… I guess I should pay attention but I abide by the rule that if it looks stupid or dangerous I don’t hook up to it. I’m never going to put someone in danger. I have upgraded tires and don’t use cheap junk to hook to the trailers. Toyota says I can pull a Space Shuttle with these trucks…. So what’s the issue

lol the space shuttle was towed less than a mile over a bridge. It’s weight was supported by a frame and not by the truck. Some of your trailer’s weight is supported by your truck.
There are several weight ratings that you need to abide by to tow safely, the axle weight rating GAWR, the vehicle weight rating GVWR, and the combined weight rating GCWR.

I really wish people would stop saying “I can pull the space shuttle”….

Nobody can pull the space shuttle or anything of that capacity on any public road. There’s always some dumbass that thinks they can.

I pulled a broke down Volvo G990 motor grader 4 miles back to DOT garage when it brake down in front of my house one night… weight had nothing to do with it, if all it’s weight is supported on its own wheels. It’s just friction tug of war at that point…

the old iForce 5.7 won that battle too. In 4Lo I might add.. but victory is a victory

It was a Tundra that towed the space shuttle. People get tied up on all these stickers and numbers. I've pulled way more than that sticker indicates with no issues at all.

It towed it with 0 additional payload on the axle via a special dolly with no tongue weight on the hitch. Then they used low range and took 5 minutes to pull it at a snail’s pace a couple hundred feet. I’m a die hard Toyota fan but any 4x4 with low range could have done it.

You might get away with it once in a while…maybe not. You also live in TX. What you can easily pull there might not be the same in other locations.

I've been back and forth on which truck to use. I set up the Tundra and if my math is right I'll be at payload +/- 50. WDH has the front whell well height is the same as when unhitched.
But here's the problem. The 5.5ft bed won't hold squat. The new TT has very little on board storage. So camp chairs, blue tote, screen room all need to go int the bed. The 2500HD has an 8 ft bed and 3K of payload. So it may just be that the 2500 gets the towing work and the Tundra gets the DD work.

Figure I'll take the Tundra this weekend and see how it is. Then decide. The trip is only 50 miles each way.

is your trailer already maxed out for weight that you can’t put couple camping chairs and a tote inside it?

Just towed a 10,000lb trailer 1,000 miles with 700# in the cab. The truck towed great. This was with a platinum with rear air suspension.

I need to get a set of E rated tires. With the stock rubber over inflated by 10psi, I was getting some side wall bulge.

The HD is built for towing. Why would you ever pick a 1500 over a 2500 for working?
