whats funny is we have been wondering for years what the weak point is which determines the gvwr. Ie is it axles, suspension, frame ext. ironic that suspension alone allowed them to raise rating

And no generator like the Powerboost. Its kinda dumb and it irritates me that the Sequoia is hybrid only

Its possible it has an uprated axle. I believe the Powerboost has a stronger axle than the standard Ecoboost due to the extra low end torque.

But ford also only increases the GVWR of the PB by only 200 lbs I believe. The standard F150 is 7150 lbs and the PB is 7350

The powerboost would come with the 9.75 vs the 8.8 rear axle. I think all 3.5 ecoboost motors come with the 9.75 and that is the petro motor that comes in that package. Its 3800 gawr and in some configurations it goes up to 4800 I believe, but in the heavy payload package with 3.73s. So the powerboost is probably the standard 9.75.

F150 Powerboost is 1.5 kWh. Prius Prime battery is 8.8 kWh, the old plugin was 4.4 kWh. The nickel metal hydride is a bit heavier but it’s much cheaper than a lithium battery.

    You should weigh it...

    ttps://www.tundras.com/threads/payload-stickers.99329/page-16#post-2737474

"I have some encouraging information to share with everyone. I had picked out a 2022 SR5 crewmax, 4wd. The door sticker, like others here said 1395lb payload. Our local dealership is fantastic. They did a ton of searching, talking with toyota, etc. So we decided that when the truck came in we would take it to the scale down the road. They had the 33 gallon tank full for me. We weighed the truck, with no one in it. The GVWR listed on the door is 7210. The truck curb weight was 5560 lb. Do the math, you get a payload of 1650lb! I'm thinking that the payload listed on the door is considering a passenger weight(s) of 250lb. That's just a guess. I'm happy that the truck met our requirements (we will use it to tow a travel trailer). Proud new Tundra owners!"

It would be nice if Toyota, or every manufacturer, would have an automatic calculator that tells you what your capacities are as you add option packages.

Just pulled my 34' TT 8k-9k loaded on a 4hr trip each way and the truck did great. Only complaint I really have is that I couldn't get the BSM to detect the trailer. Tried auto setting for length and inputting the length of the trailer and neither one sensed cars on the side of the trailer for me.

Impressive, you have that setup leveled out nicely, I assume with a WD hitch? What kind of mileage did you see?

Thanks, yeah I have a WDH with 2 sway control kits. I still had about 1.5" sag in the rear fully loaded, but going to try and fine tune the WDH and see if I can get rid of that on my next trip. I was averaging around 11MPG with my speed at 55-65MPH. The truck does have the westcott 3/1 collar lift and 35"s. Overall I was really impressed with how it pulled and I had no sway. I've pulled the same TT with my Silverado and my Suburban that has bags and the tundra felt better pulling the TT.

Glad to hear that as I've had towing anxiety and our trailer is only 5500 loaded up. I wouldn't have guessed you had it lifted because I would have thought the nose would be higher than its sitting. Have you done any research on airbags for the rear?

I wouldn't worry too much about a 5500lb trailer if it was me. What I've notice a lot online and going down the road is people just don't spend the time to set up their hitch properly or even their trailer brake. I spent quite a bit of time dialing in my WDH to get the trailer sitting level and I'll adjust it again before my next trip to try to get rid of the 1.5" of sag, but IMO that's acceptable sag in my book. A proper setup on a WDH makes the world of difference towing IMO. I'm not going to get bags in the rear because I don't want to limit the suspension for off-road use. Also, I'm eventually going to be upgrading the suspension when lifts become available. If I was pulling daily I'd look into it, but the handful of times I pull a year I don't think its necessary because the truck is more than capable with the proper setup.

I agree with setting up the WD hitch properly, on my Ram 1500 it took me an hour of playing around with it to tune it in and it paid off. I carry dirt bikes in addition to my trailer so I look at payload in the bed as my limiting factor, it'll be interesting to play around with it but I"m glad to read that its' such a capable towing platform even with the 35's on it.

Yeah, haven't pulled the TT with the dirtbike in the back yet, but later in the year I'll be loading my bike in the bed while pulling the TT. If it was me and I had more than 2 bikes back there I'd be looking into some bags. I'd assume any universal coil over bag kit would work? But, haven't looked into it. However, I did have 3 bikes, a small electric quad, my sons power wheel, and 5g gas can in the bed which wasn't really a whole lot of weight. After this last trip we've decided were going to get a class C next year anyways. My kids are finally at the age that I'll need a little trailer to pull 3 small atvs, my wife's atv, and my dirtbike.

    I agree with this part.

Don't agree with this. Whether you like it or not, at some point an engineer (or maybe a few of them) looked at the design of the Tundra and determined that's the max weight it can safely carry, based on a number of factors that you and I can only guess at. The truck MIGHT be capable of carrying more but, if no one at Toyota is willing to sign off on it, I'm not willing to test the limits, especially on public roads with my family in the truck.

Hey toyota, how about a payload package,

as an option, let us check a box to get the Hybrid GVWR in a non hybrid.

platinum crewmax 4 x4 payload package

    7660-5620 = 2040 lbs payload

that would solve the problem for a lot of people and Toyota it would be super easy for toyota to do.

Ill see how it does with the bikes back there and if I need to look at air bags then I will. It would be nice as Breathing Borla suggested to have a payload package as an option. The motor will pull it but the limiting factor seems to be the payload for a lot of folks. I agree with Hbjeff, 11 is good mpg for the load and 35's but you kept speed down which is why, I drive mine the same way. How did the brake controller work, any issues?

Do you, like almost every single person I know, test the limits of the speed limit?

Whether you like it or not, at some point an engineer (or maybe a few of them) looked at various factors of the roadway and its environment (curvature, traffic, entry/exit points, weather) and determined the maximum speed you may safely travel at, based on a number of factors that you and I can only guess at. Your vehicle MIGHT be capable of safely going faster on that road, but if no one in your state (or province?) Dept of Transportation is willing to sign off on it, are you willing to test those limits, especially on public roads with your family in the truck?

(Not necessarily aiming this only at you; just pointing out the exact same argument applies to speed limits, which many, many people happily admit that they don’t abide by while policing others’ towing habits)

I'm one of the few who actually drives the speed limit, though I am willing to go up to 10 kph (6 mph) over the limit when going downhill (and the same amount under when going uphill) in the name of fuel economy.

For the record, I'll probably end up adopting your thinking that if I'm over my GVWR but under my GAWRs, I'll probably be ok. I mean, Toyota didn't even balk when the owner of the first million mile Tundra admitted to carrying over a ton in it.

Bro, don't try to argue the truck is tougher than Toyota says it is. My feeling is that the GVWR is Toyota's max rating for doing all truck things with it, including some offroad stuff.

Oh you know a guy who hauled way more on the highway babying it? I don't care.

Tacoma guys have been trying the same thing for years due to dismal payload and they bend and replace literally every single part, and that may not be wailing on it either.

Yep. Toyota all but boasted about the million mile trucks' ability to be pushed past its stated limits. They did the same thing with a series of Tundra ads they made about the truck they loaned to some ranch to be used however they wanted for 100k miles. The ranch guys said they used it like an HD truck. It pulled loads that were way beyond the door jamb and was just fine. These were ads made by Toyota.

I noticed in that video, they were careful not to show 12 cattle in the livestock trailer like the ranch hand claimed, and the engineer says something like "while I can't recommend using your truck this way, it is great to see that it had no problems at all for 100k miles of abuse". They come right up to the line of legal liability (in the event someone uses their truck in a similar way and causes an accident) without crossing it.

    Edit: here's the series:

I am not making a judgement on whether anyone else should or should not haul at any level above their door jamb.

What I am saying is, if you ignore the posted speed limit which actually is a legally enforceable standard, then your argument when you police other people's payload habits is invalid.
