Bought a 2018 Tundra 4X4 CM and after reading A LOT of posts on everything about Tundra’s here I’ve decided I’m going to put a BDS 4.5 lift on it. Just have a few questions I’m hoping someone will give me some much needed advice!

Can I use Bilstein 6112 Front & 5160 rear shocks with this kit?

I would like an aggressive stance thinking 35inch tires sticking out 2/3 inches past the finders, what offset/backspacing for the wheels?

Will Coachbuilder Shackles in the rear be in place of blocks or addition to?

This will be my daily driver with mild off-roading once in a while as I just moved from Clearwater Beach Fla to Fargo ND. Thanks to all of you guys for the information you post it really helps people like myself get ideas and learn...

Which 4.5”? Stage 2 comes with Fox coilovers. I believe you could sub in shackles for the blocks as long as they are the same height like 2” block for 2” shackle. Wheels need to have 5.5” of backspace and I’m guessing you will probably have to do the CMC also. Relentless Fab on here has plates you can use for that.

    Also Welcome from Oregon!

Can I use Bilstein 6112 Front & 5160 rear shocks with this kit?

I would not run these with spacer and run coilovers instead. Will give you a much better ride and proper suspension movement, those with spacers tend to collapse shocks.

I would like an aggressive stance thinking 35inch tires sticking out 2/3 inches past the finders, what offset/backspacing for the wheels?

35's are totally doable with 4.5 lift. Run 0 offset rims with 4.75 backspacing. (Methods are a great option)

Will Coachbuilder Shackles in the rear be in place of blocks or addition to?

I would absolutely run CB +2 Shackles in the rear vice lift blocks. Lift blocks make for a worse ride.

As a former BDS owner i know a great deal about their stuff shoot me a PM if you have more questions. Hope this helped.

you do know there are other people who have far more offload and mechanical knowledge on this board who also have run or currently run BDS kits right?

I have the BDS 4.5" with front fox 2.5 DSC coil overs. You know you will have to cut out the cross member to install this lift. For how you are going to use your truck and just want to get 35" tires on, I would explore other options.

You’ll need a negative around 0 to -12 offset for the stance you’re looking for.. 4.5 inch lift with 0 offset will look mean!!!!

Hey! This is my first post, but I did the BDS 4.5" lift without coilovers. Works great. It's my daily driver and I do go off road about once a month for fun, otherwise I use this beast like a truck. Coilovers are always a better and more complete lift, if you have the money. BDS now has coilover add ons for others like me who didn't buy them up front. You can always do that if you are unhappy with the ride. Congrats on the truck!

I'm also trying to figure out best shocks to go with this kit, my factory bilsteins are feeling weak. Any news on your search?

Also running 35x12.5 tires on 20" weels. My tires are flush with the outside of my flares, just to give you a reference point.

Looking for shocks or coilovers? I have a 7" BDS with ADS coilovers and King secondary shocks.

    Trayday, your truck is awesome!!
In a perfect world, coilovers 100%. But for now, with my first kid turning 1 and trying to build a house, I'm going conservative with new shocks. Thoughts?

I ran OME on my first Tacoma, then Bilstein on my next, then Bilstein 5100 coilovers on my 05 Tacoma. Was very happy with all of them.

ADS makes an extended coilover for the BDS Lift like Fox?

Thanks, I do regret going as far as I did with my truck but oh well. Depends on how hard you are on your truck. I had the Bilstein 5100's at the same time as the lift, they'd get heat soaked fairly quickly with fast off road driving and they rode like complete shit after 20k miles or so but I ran them real hard. For everyday driving and hunting in the mountains with mild off roading I had zero complaints, they did make the truck smoother up to about 20 mph or so. The 5100's are also the only aftermarket shocks that I have any experience with. My friend put Rancho on his Tacoma and he's happy with them but I haven't rode in it yet, he did say they made his truck feel more "squishy."

Yeah, just need to make a phone call to the actual company or someone who sells directly. I know King does as I thought about running them and Icon probably does but I'm not 100%, I didn't talk to them. They'll probably ask for some shock measurements then will build to those numbers.

Thank you trayday for the honest feedback and experience, as well as everyone else that commented. Where I live its either pot hole uneven roads, hunting paths, or slow trail riding. I believe for the money and what I've heard and experienced, I'm going back to the Bilstein 5100 front and rear.

As long as they work with the BDS I have...

    Thank you!

Ok, I just spent my lunch break on the phone with BDS, Bilstein, RCD, and a local truck shop...Bilstein 5100 or up do not work with the BDS lift because you can't achieve factory ride height with in the front, and they won't extend enough in the rear-tech at Bilstein explained to me. He sent me to RCD. Bilstein makes extended shocks/struts for a 4-6" lift. The front strut actually has a longer body and is preloaded for a 4"+ lift, same in the rear. I have the part numbers if this helps anyone. This eliminates the strut extension adapter and still utilizes the factory spring. It also means you can run the 5100 series in all 4 corners of the truck(I like stuff to match). Still waiting on a price.
    Anyone ever deal with RCD?

Badnfat did you end up going with the extended 5100? I got a 2012 rock warrior with the BDS 4.5” and I’m in the same boat. I spoke to BDS and they recommended only running the factory shocks again, because of the strut extension with the lift. The 4600 bilsteins specs and the 5100 specs are almost identical. Which I couldn’t see why it wouldn’t ride the same. Does anyone know what the strut extension with the stock bilsteins measure out to?
