Going to be an interesting night. Currently at the top of a mountain in a blistering thunderstorm with fog so thick I can’t see 10 feet with steady winds about 30 knots. At least I have one bar of cell signal. Takes forever to load a page. Good news is the tent is holding up.

Only 1694 miles from my house. Towing my travel trailer at 8-9 mpg x $4.50+ per gallon = no way in hell I'll be going there. Looks nice though!

We’d love a quick video capture of that! We know you won’t be able to post it till the storm passes and you get back to civilization. Stay safe and try to get good sleep.

Can’t upload video here and I don’t have a personal YouTube account. Here is a pic as I started to climb up the mountain and the fog started.

The day after the storm. Sitting on top of Loft mountain in a saturated drizzle at 40 digress. Talk about a miserable day.

No, this weather front is going to be like this for days. The tent inside is still dry so we’re folding up and pressing on.

Ok, cool. I’ll hope to finally get a real-experience report on how it is when you open it tonight. When I look at those, it always appears that outside and inside fabrics will mingle when closed for packing. I hope, for your comfort, that isn’t true.

I can already give you a report on this for the night before was a storm as well. Of course when we opened it back up the outside fabric was still wet but the inside was still dry. There was a little moisture on the inside
right at the door but that was to be expected from the opening. I do have an anti condensation pad so that does protect the bottom of the mattress. The fabric on this tent is fairly thick and does a good job in keeping moisture and sunlight out.

I did build a rain pole that keeps the top of the tent high and allows rain to drain off. Without this pole rain pools at the top and drains Dow the middle into the tent. But ever since I built this pole the inside has stayed dry in some rough conditions.

Hung around the Appalachian Trail a bit and saw these two. The Appalachian Trail is an interesting trail for those of your who are not familiar with it. It is a 2200 mile hiking trail that runs from Georgia to Maine along the Eastern mountain ranges. The task is to hike the entire trail within a single 6 month season. Those who attempt this are called Thru-hikers and the success rate is only 25%. I met a couple of Thru-hikers stopping for a break and they looked absolutely miserable. Didn’t want to discourage them in any way so I kept the conversation lite and upbeat.

the path you see in the pic is the Appalachian Trail

After 2+ weeks, 5000 miles, and a journey to remember, the daughter and I made it back to the Eastern Shore. Thanks everyone for following along and I look forward to T2S 2023.

BTW, have not added up all the fuel receipts but let’s just say the kid’s inheritance is history

Those hikers should be alright if they’ve made it that far. Most people drop out in the first month due to blisters/equipment not fitting properly. A couple of my friends hiked it; they said hands down the worst part was the PA region. You’re hiking on rocks and boulders the whole time

Thanks for documenting your trip. Was fun to follow along on your journey

Yea, those two will be fine. Since they are already in the mid Atlantic region and it’s only the beginning of May then they departed GA in either February or March and are defiantly hardened by now. Most attend the mid April send off party and then depart on tax weekend. You are correct though that the VA and PA are the hardest parts.

A little post trip stuff with some nice scenery.

Upon my return needed to invest some quality wife time. Since it’s her BDay, took her to one of her favorite places on the Historic James River. What your looking at in the picture is Jamestown Island. For you history buffs, this is the original permanent settlement in the US from England. A neat place to visit as they continue archeological digs. BTW, the actual original settlement was on Roanoke Island in NC but is not considered as “permanent” since everyone disappeared. To this day, their whereabouts are still unknown.
