At what point (how cold) do you have to start worrying about the block freezing?

The pics in this thread make me want to put together a truck and drive to Colorado. Seriously, awesome stuff.

To be honest, I’m not exactly sure. I’ve never had an issue starting the truck in cold temps.

I do know the Toyota 50/50 Super Long Life Coolant has a freezing point of -34°

    A few updates...

Picked up some new tires. I decided to go with the 285/75/17 Toyo ATII again. My last set had roughly 45k when I replaced them and could have gone another 5-7k but I wanted some fresh tread for the winter. I've been very happy with these tires and this size (285/75/17 aka 34x11.5)

I also added Baja Designs S1's in the ditch light location. These bolt to my current XL80s and will be wired on their own switch using the switch pros.

I had initially gone with the Amber Wide Cornering but decided to switch to the Work/Scene pattern. Wiring should be here in the next few days

The camper also saw some additions in the form of rubber flooring. This will insulate slightly while providing more protection from the elements.

@Bailey got any tips for using your 4wc in the snow / extreme cold? We recently purchased and with ski season rapidly approaching we will start spending more and more time in the cold. Thanks for the beta.

What’s your electrical setup like? How many batteries? Any solar?

A good battery system is a must if you’re running the heater often. I recommend keeping the furnace set at the lowest setting while you’re out skiing. This will keep any water from freezing and make the system work more efficiently when you get back in the camper.

Reflectix is your friend! A large piece under the mattress makes a world of a difference. And if you really want, you can cut pieces for each window. I have only done the mattress and the turnbuckle doors. i like seeing out the windows otherwise I’d cover them.

slightly cracking the roof vent will help reduce condensation but keep paper towels handy to wipe things down. The propane furnace produces some moisture in the air

I currently have the dual 12v and the 160w solar on the roof so thus far I have been pretty set on power but we will see how that holds up on a long ski weekend with snow collecting on my panel.

I like the idea of reflectix under the mattress, this is not something I had considered. I’ll defiantly be picking up a few rolls and get on that quickly.

Do you have an onboard water system in your build? If so, what temps are you comfortable with before you start worrying about freezing lines? I have a couple 20-25 degree nights and have not had issues but am scared to go any further.

Thanks again for the help and slick rig. If I see you out on the roads in CO here I’ll have to buy you a beer for the help.

I have a Frontrunner water tank onboard but don't have a FWC system since mine is a shell model

It's not enclosed in any cabinetry. I keep the furnace on the lowest setting now to keep things from freezing up. So far, so good.

I'll be around CO for a bit, hope to see you on the road

    Well... the time has come

As of 12/23/19, I sold the truck & camper

I'm very thankful for the amazing friends and memories that I've made along the way. It's time for the next project. See you all soon

It will eventually get a 4x4 conversion and high roof but for now will be a slower build.

Can't go in many details but the future looks bright

Getting that van life going eh? I can respect it.
You'll have to start a page in the "other builds" section so we can drool!
I'm excited to see the 4x4 conversion myself.

Gonna miss your photography style Baily. I think you could have parked your truck in my front yard and still made it look like it was a hundred miles from civilization in the photos.

Best wishes and keep us posted with the new project.

2nd full day of owning the and she already went to Anza Borrego

My friend Emily and I were treated to some snow before sunrise. Pretty sweet to have a white Christmas in the desert! Too bad it didn’t stick around once the sun came up. Merry Christmas everyone.
