It's time to build my stock 2010 rock warrior into a camping/expedition rig suitable for the family. Right now, I'm planning to keep it as close to stock as possible. I'm on the east coast, most of the land is held privately and the state/national park services tend to be very restrictive when it comes to driving off road. I'd love to setup the truck for more serious offroading, but from what I can see, most land that I will have access to will at worst comprise of a poorly maintained gravel road.

I'd love to know about some fun public land around the east coast that will test my driving and tundra's abilities. If you know of any, send me a PM... this thread will be for build log updates and discussion of components.

As the truck sits now, it is stock except I did install the TRD dual exhaust system.
    Current build plan:
    Camper Shell
    Awning
    Rooftop tent
    Winch / bumper
    Suspension lift (2-3")

I wanted to wait and select tires last, but my original BFG's were getting bare, so I picked up some Cooper ST/Maxx 285/70r17. I'm keeping my original rock warrior wheels... love the look of them more than anything I've seen in the aftermarket.

I ordered a ARE CX series camper shell to sit on the bed... since the camper shell had a free carpeting special.. I decide to match the bed by ordering a bedrug. This is my first bedrug and so far love it. The padding it provides is fantastic on my knees!

Camper shell installed. I ordered the ARE CX Series with vented windors and yakima rack tracks. The factory sent a shell without yakima tracks and regular windoors (no sliding window). This was the fault of the factory, as the dealer invoice had the right options clearly stated. In the end, my dealer took care of me, ordered the rack system and correct windows and installed them w/o any additional charges.

Roof top tent, Foxwing Awning, and Tagalong Tent ordered. The RTT is for the kids (or myself when solo), the wife and I otherwise sleep in the tagalong tent that attaches to the awning.

Dakota approves of the awning, couldn't keep her away from the box.. a real ham for the camera.

Good lucking build so far! Idk how long you've had the ST Maxx's, but what do you think of them?

Had em for a few weeks now... at first I thought I made a big mistake as my truck was all over the road and I had no traction, it was really bad. I got a good price on the tires from a hole in the wall tire shop... down side was that they didn't balance them correctly which caused alot of weird steering feedback and had the pressure at 80psi which I feel contributed to poor traction.

Now that I got about 500 miles on them, the new tire tread squirm has vanished... My local firestone tire center balanced them properly, and i dropped the air pressure to 40psi. Everything's great now. I haven't had a good chance to try them in the dirt or snow yet, so the verdict is still out. I don't know what the weight difference is, but they definitely feel like a heavier tire, the truck feels like it's working a little harder to accelerate (prior to putting the camper shell on). They are also much louder than the factory bfg's that come on rock warriors. It's not like a 40in super swamper, but you can hear them very noticeably, but it's not to the point that i don't like it. For those that like some tire noise, it's probably the perfect level. I prefer quieter tires, but that's the price you pay to have a more aggressive tread pattern.

Don't know if you have ever run Goodyear Duratracs, but the sound level is similar (Ran those on my Ram2500)

I usually don't have good luck on ebay as far as getting a really good deal, but last weekend I decided to check for a winch and jumped on a Warn Zeon 10-S for $900 w/free shipping. If you've seen em cheaper, I don't want to hear about it!

    It arrived last night.

Some pics of the tent /awning setup. Worked out great that weekend had constant rain one day, and high winds the next... the awning and tents kept the family dry and sheltered without any issues.

I've read a few reviews on them that said they're a little squirrely the first 500 miles or so, wonder if that's all due to an improper balance like you had or the tires themselves. Most of the reviews on sites like Discount Tire don't elaborate unfortunately.

I have some idea on the noise, a buddy of mine has had Duratracs on his last two Fords so that's really not bad at all.

Well, well, well. What on earth has been dropped on my driveway? Looks like I have something fun to do this weekend!

Well I opened up that shipment, and spent a relaxed weekend with my son installing it to the truck. Expedition One bumper!!! I've had my eyes on this bumper for a few years now... and they did not disappoint, it was packed very well and feels extremely well made.

Next up is to fabricate a mount so that I can reuse my OEM fog lights in the E1 bumper... and maybe something a little more powerful to sit inside the hoop!
