I have a car trailer that I tow my car down to various tracks. The electric winch on the trailer hasn’t worked it years. There are times it would have come in handy.

Right now, my budget is tight (whose isn’t). So, I looked at Harbor Freight. They only seem to sell the Badland brand.

The car is an old C3 Corvette and can’t weight too much. I have a very good guy that works on trailers. When I told him what I wanted, he brought me in the shop and showed me this, brand new, on the floor: His brother-in-law purchased it and now doesn’t want it. He said I could have it for $300 cash.
I thought the 12,000 pounds may come in handy is a wheel bearing seized or a differential blows and the car doesn't roll on its own.

I don’t know much about Badland winches. They seem to have Badland, Badland ZXR and Badland Apex.

Any opinions on this would be appreciated. BTW : I don’t think its on the site. But what is the warranty on winches?

BTW: wasn’t sure where to put this post. Recovery and Gear seems correct. Please move if I selected poorly.

    Too many, but not enough....
Badland winches are good. It's what Matt uses on his offroad recovery. They are priced well and go on sale often.

    Harbor Freight Warranty???

    o_O;):(:rolleyes::rofl::rofl::rofl:

They don't exist - at least not anymore. The winch was a 30 day warranty, and the most they will do is swap it for another one if you throw fit about it. But you have to have the receipt.

That said, I purchased the same winch to put on my car hauler. It's still sitting in the box - past the warranty - cuz I've had other things needing my time and attention. Hope mine still works..

When my Warn winch pisses me off again (by not working when I need it) I’m getting a Badlands. It is a proven winch, doesn’t matter who sells it or where it’s made.

It’s a 90 day warranty; not 30 like others have stated. I, unfortunately, know that store like the back of my hand.

They’re good winches with parts available for purchase. Only reason I went with a warn instead of the badlands is that warn sells every part for their winch, not just wear items like HF (motor, brake, etc), and I got a decent deal on the warn

You have a zeon platinum, correct? Maybe swap over the clutch to a zeon and get rid of the wireless clutch function. Add in the wireless at the control box? Just another option for you to price out

I'd mount it to a hitch plate vs the trailer. Then just put a mounting tube on the trailer. This gives many more options of where and how you can use the winch. Yes, it''s gonna be a little heavy. For that reason I use a smaller winch and a couple of blocks to triple the power if needed.

I purchased the Badland ZXR. I went to the Harbor Freight near me. There wasn't a 12,000 pound on the shelf. I asked the employee.
He goes in the back, comes out and says...
"Were out of the new model. But I have an old model you can have for $250 (vs $379.99). It has the same 90 day warranty."

BTW: I had a mount made for the trailer. But the guy welded in a supplemental piece of iron so I could mount it on the Tundra. Thought that was a good idea.
Also purchased a winch cover. Figured it be good if I got caught in the rain (yes, I know they are supposed to be waterproof). But for the most part, when not in use I remove it from the trailer
and store in inside. Cuts down on exposure and theft.

The only bad thing is it weights 88 pounds. With the bracket, it goes over 100 pounds.

    Nice, glad you’re liking it.
Switch out the wire rope for synthetic and it’ll lighten the unit up significantly. Save your back

Now you can hit Harbor Freight again for a dolly. Great excuse to find more cool "toys"!

What’s the big difference Is it just a wire rope
And the other and that almost doubles the price ?
