I've got a new PCV that I'm going to put on mine when I get the vcg's replaced. It's weird that the dealership didn't even stock it locally but I got one for it at advanced auto parts.

The round part with the gold flap is what needs cleaning with a rag and throttle body cleaner, it'll look like smut, open the flap and get as much as you can out of it. I bet that'll make your rps back to normal.

Had a similar issue on my daughters 99 Maxima. Replaced a faulty coil which cleared the fault but still ran rough. I was told to change all coils not just one. So I did and fixed my problem even though only one coil was showing faulty.

Well you don't have to see the bottom of the jar in the testing lab before you put it down....

This is why I did mine all at one time. Scored online some Denso OEM new coils for about $50 a piece. Replaced all 8 for $400. Stealership woulda been $1500 labor and parts!

I'll look into this if the valve spring and injector check out fine. Changing the #4 coil didn't clear my misfire code and swapping it with another one didn't make a difference neither.

You call ALL your local autostores? I had to go across town when hunting the OEM Denso plugs. Worth it though. Use what the manual says.

I read through and did not see any mention of fuel pressure, and volume, checking while symptomatic.

You may be on the right path with ignition coils, but you may not be.

Check the dealership, I wouldn't put anything else but what they stock for it and match them to what you have in it now.

Good idea. The key is putting what the manual says. In years past, the mechanics would put in whatever spark plug fits. The last set of plugs I pulled out were Denso Iridiums. Did they work? Yes. Were they the spec’d plug? No.

The stealership might have them at double the price. A few calls to your local auto store will save $.

I had my valve cover gaskets replaced this past Tuesday and we checked out the tension on the springs, they all seemed to be all the same, nice and tight. I also replaced my PCV valve which the dealer didn't stock, ordered it from advanced auto and drove it down the road. The popping went away, however the lack of power was still there. I removed the catalyst on the passenger side, because that's the side with the misfire, son of a gun ran like a new one, so the cat was my main problem and I'm tickled that it's back to normal again. I hope this helps someone else and I've noticed my gas mileage up to 15.8 mpg on this tank and it had ran a day or so before on this tank full before I had the work done.

Most parts guys will cut you some slack if you just ask them, it never hurts.
I'd just hate to put too long of a plug or a cheesy set and it come apart.

So it was the pass side cat? Good trouble shooting!

Sounds like the cats were clogged up causing the popping/backfire.

Yes or a combo, including the PCV valve.
But definitely the cat on the #4 cylinder side.
My next move was an injector but not anymore at least.

I finally found the right plugs (advance Auto parts) only had 6 so wating on 2. I called three Auto parts stores in town all tryed to sell me a different plugs. Can't wait to see what the new coils and plugs r going to do. I read about the cats causing problems, VERY INTERESTING because i also have to replace the intermediate pipe and resonater, plus found some small pin holes in both of the cat pipes. Just looking at the prices of the two cat back pipes WOW, the magnaflow muffler and tailpipe r only two years old, any suggestions about the cats and intermediate pipe/resonater will be appreciated, thanks all and have a great holiday season.

Yeah, but it keeps saying a different plug, bought only one new coil and moved it around after clearing the code a couple times, then was saying 02 sensors and replaced all of them also.

So you've checked it after the vacuum line repairs and it still shows the code?

Yeah I was showing a bad misfire on #4, the longer I drove it I would get a slight one on #6 and #8. Weird why it picked on #4 cylinder so much, could be the design of the exhaust manifold.
