How many miles on your truck now?

I'm under 9,xxx miles now and don't expect to do a transmission fluid change for a hot minute (pun intended). When I do, I'm considering using AmSoil. Here's a post referring to it: https://www.tundras.com/threads/nervous-for-trans-fluid-change.89701/#post-2259860

Looks like it's easy peasy steps here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/nervous-for-trans-fluid-change.89701/#post-2259805 and https://www.tundras.com/threads/where-is-the-transmission-fill-plug.90567

I think it would be A LOT easier if you had access to a lift to get the truck off the ground.

All said and done, you just need to make sure that the fluid levels are correct.

127k here's the drippings from the hockeypuck warmer (cooler)?

    Screen Shot 2021-06-22 at 11.34.14 AM.jpg

The job is easy, the hardest part is getting it to the right temp to test it's full & cleaning up the mess that will happen from the drain/removal of the pan/install of the filter.

I did it 4x on my 2005 X5 from 30k to 120k no problems at all. I'm just a bit burnt from the 2k transmisison job.

That looks pretty close to what I get in my 2010 (thermostat NOT pinned open though). I watch the trans/coolant temps on my Bully Dog, which, I was told, monitors the pan temp, not the convertor temp.

Example: Towing the boat (roughly 5k lbs) home from the lake the other weekend, ambient temp was 106. Trans was usually around 194-196 and would reach as far as 201. Coolant would stay right around 198/199. This is towing thru the hills at 60mph, tow/haul engaged, S4 selected and shifted to S5 in the flats.

Thanks, I think I'm fine and see no reason to worry I'll be under temp.

You get to a point in your life where it's just worth it to pay someone else to do the job. With that said, it sounds like you are at that point. I don't have any recommendations on where to do it, but if you get the itch to do it yourself, let me know. Two half-brains make a whole one.

Thanks, I called Petes, the shop that did my r&r and that fixed the glass transmission in my 2001 Acura CLs in 2008. First they said they have too much business to do any maintenance for the foreseeable future, when I asked what they would charge they asked what I had (I started with that) they said they would not do it.

    That's scary.

Holy crap. At least they were honest that they didn't want to take your money and do a half assed job. Sounds like you have a tranny flush in the future. :p

The reason they are too busy is they do great work. It's just scary to think a place that only deals with transmissions don't want to take the liability. (my take)

I work a few miles from Camelback Toyota, I'm going to see what they say. If I'm doing it I want to replace the filter also so there's that.

    If you're 4x4, wouldn't hurt to pick up a 12pt 32mm socket for front axles too ;)

I have all those specialty sockets from my X5. Luckily BMW uses the same sizes.

The reason I burned my arm is the 24mm is long so I had a hard time getting my 1/2 inch long socket wrench on it and was between the front driveshaft & cat.

Saturday gonna be another fun day under the truck!

It looks like you have a reverse leak issue with your pool. I'd call the pool company ASAP.

We had a little bit in Tucson last night too. Just enough to float all the dust on the truck

Still raining in Laveen. Of course, the filters for the pool came when it was pouring. So I waited to R&R the f00kers.

Now it seems the damn brain for the pop up head cleaner is going out. Instead of two at a time opening, I have 4-6 which causes poor pressure. God, I hate that hole in the ground money goes to die!
