EC1 can correct me if i'm wrong... but i believe the advantages to the shells are

    1) Cost. On the 2.5 gen, the grill surround overlays cost $200-300. I'd assume these 3rd Gen will be the same? If so, that's quite a bit cheaper than buying a new painted surround ($700 at least)

    2) Not sure what guys have been quoted to paint their existing grill surround, but I'm guessing it would be more than $200-300 and I've heard that many paint shops will not paint the finish on the existing surrounds because it will not stick well, meaning you have to buy a new unfinished surround and then paint it.

    3) Install on the shells looks a lot easier than taking the whole front end of the truck off to either paint the surround or install a new one.

Oh, man! :annoyed: Any way we could still get it? :D

Not a stupid question, but I think you slightly misunderstand the product. SOME of the products have the option to be painted. However, we have stock colors, Black, Matte Black, Super White (Ice Cap), Textured TPO, and a special little thing we do called "Armor Coated". We're also currently exploring other colors for our plastic, including Carbon Fiber, Brushed Nickel/Metal, and
    yl
The ones we are painting ourselves will come at a slight premium, but still less expensive than buying an OEM or having it painted.

    Pros:
    • Doesn't void your dealer warranty or affect your insurance (though, they might not be covered. ask your insurance provider!)
    • Wanna sell it as stock? Pop 'em off
    • Affordability, so you can spend that hard-earned cash you saved on OTHER mods!
    • Easy DIY install (feels awesome to mod your own truck, even if it is just sticking on an overlay)
    • Can't tell they aren't OEM
    • You're helping a small, family-owned and operated business grow!
    Cons:
    :duh:tHeY'rE jUsT pLaStIc oVeRlAys
    • They are not swappable. Once you get the 3M tape to stick, it's virtually permanent (except, not fully, you just risk breaking or damaging the Shellz if you want to remove them)

I wasn't FULLY sure when it came to reason 2, so I didn't mention that in my previous post, but yes, that is definitely a issue with TRUE chomre, like on the 2.5 Tundra and the rear of the Tacomas. So thank you for that! As far as the cost for the painting goes, we are still kind of on the fence, but most of the colors are pretty inexpensive. The only colors we anticipate being close to over $350 might be ANY KIND of red. Red paint runs close to about 3x-4x the amount of let's say... Army Green.

And all the other reasons you're correct about on!

In case you still need one in 10+ days, we can work together. Unfortunately not before I'm back in the Bay Area (3/20).

Thank you, this makes perfectly sense now :)

Thank you! Especially 1 & 2 is clear now. Personally I'm not too concerned about disassembling the front, especially since I'm planning on installing the CBI Covert bumper.

    Pros #1. WTH?

I’d love to know where people are having warranty and insurance denied for messing with their grill surrounds or rear bumper covers.

To me this all hinges on wether or not the cover lays flat and is unnoticeable. If it’s raised at all I don’t think I would go for it.

All we have is anecdotes. I would imagine they either leased and couldn't make any permanent changes to the vehicle or it was a shifty used car lot. :notsure:

They're designed to be indistinguishable from having it done OEM. That's a big reason why we haven't released them yet. We haven't been able to test them on a truck yet. You can learn so much more from a live truck than just the part.

The installation isn't the issue, it's how much or how little we need to tweak the tool to make the parts. For all of our BumperShellz we make our tools.

Unfortunately by the time you guys get a truck to test on and they are up for sale I have a feeling I’ll have already spent the extra money on new painted ones.

We know ya'll are sick of waiting. I am too. We're actually planning a pre-sale later this week or early next week.

We don't want to make a promise we can't keep, so we didn't want to do a pre-sale until we were SURE we had a solid "Ships By" date and solid price points. Sign up on the form if you haven't already, and I'll be sending out that information very soon.

We're also very close to the mirror covers as well and they will likely be added to the pre-sale.

Any update on this? Mine will be in WCP, is there an update on price? I know a couple of estimates have been put out. Thank you in advance for the information, I’m sure a lot of us are waiting on this.

I don't have a LOT in the way of updates as far as price... But here's what I have for you right now:

    • ALL COLORS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT PRE-SALE
    • There will be additional charge(s) for colors we have to paint. Pearls and Reds will have a higher surcharge than the more basic colors (Army Green, for example)
    • Colors we do NOT need to paint: Ice Cap, Attitude Black/Midnight Black, Gloss Black, Matte Black, Textured TPO, Armor Coated
I'm hoping to have the pre-sale out by Wednesday of next week, but that all hinges on my superiors figuring out the numbers.

Hate to break it to you both, but we won't have images like that until the part is ready to be fully released. But if your concerns are fitment or looking good in general, we ain't rookies here. We're designing these to be flush against the truck so you'd never even know it wasn't stock.

We actually did a big presentation for Toyota Canada, and while there isn't a lot of stuff I can show you from that, I can show you this slide that shows the ease of installation on the 2.5 Gen Tundra. easypeasy.jpg

During the pre-sale we'll also have the option to place a deposit down for the rear bumpers, mirror covers, window trim, AND the foglamp bar so you can be one of the first to receive it when THOSE are released (that will be $5 per part)!

Sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread. I think if a person ever wanted to remove these that it would likely destroy the shell. But what about the original piece underneath? Will it remain unharmed?

Excuse my ignorance, can you please elaborate on the window trim. Is this to cover the chrome? Color match or gloss black?? Any ball park on cost for additional pieces? Anything on the door handles? Thank you for putting all this together!!

It's not a 100% guarantee that you would destroy the Shellz, but it's a huge risk factor, simply because of the way the Shellz adhere to the existing chrome bumper. Your truck is gonna be going [at safe speeds] on the highway and the BumperShellz need to stay on. We use 3M Automotive grade tape and 3M adhesion promoter to make that happen. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible to remove them without breaking 'em, it's just highly not recommended, unless you don't want them anymore.
Your existing bumper should not be affected by removal of BumperShellz, save for some adhesive residue which can be removed with rubbing alcohol and elbow grease

For the Grille Surround, we will have an "Expected to ship: XX 2023" section in the description. Of course, I'll also let ya'll know here as well as in the email I send out.

I think "XX" might end up being June or July? Hopefully sooner than that, but I gave a whole list to Grant of the info I need before I activate the pre-sale product page and send out the email.
