You might be onto something. In October, I got a SnugTop Rebel topper installed. Obviously, that gets wired into the third brake light. I never noticed this issue prior to that.

I’m also going to replace the 100 dollar ambient light sensor on the center dashboard just for sh!ts n giggles. I ordered the sensor and should have it in on Tuesday. I will keep you updated. It wouldn’t hurt to unplug it for a few weeks an see if the aftermarket has anything to do with it.

Ok it happened again to me this morning. I even had the aftermarket third brake light disconnected. Well today I should receive the new ambient light sensor. If it does it again after that then it’s either in the headlight stalk or even worse would be the BCM Module.

Hello Everyone, my Toyota Service Department called me today and explained Toyota engineering is aware of the current issue and they are ordering a part recommended. Once I get the new part number I will share.

If we collectively can't get Toyota to fix the problem we should be contacting NTSB to get a Recall started.

Found this forum after google search of this problem. Just want to add my 2016 Tundra 1794 to the list. Bone stock truck and intermittent issue, just happens randomly. Hope someone posts a fix!

I have the same damn issue with my 2017 platinum. So you just have the do the above once and magically goes away or every time we get in our trucks? I have the new 2018 headlight mod with ihacker harnesses. I will try this tonight hope this fixes our issue. IMO it feels like the turn signal stick is bad or something is shorting back there. BTW this only happens with my left turn signal.

All my lights inside, out, front and back are all VLEDS or toyota. Seems this problem occurs even with completely stock set ups. I am pretty sure if I take to my dealer they won't be able to replicate or fix anything fml.

So this problem only occurs on platinum and 1794 trims?

Yeah mines a 2017 1794 edition with 18,000 miles. Happens randomly for me and noticed when right signal goes on. I tried replacing the cheapest part first which was the ambient light sensor on dash board, but problem happened again today so it’s not the sensor. I talked to my mechanic. He said it could be in the signal stalk or a module or the BCM. He would do the same thing I’m doing by replacing the cheapest part first unless I can replicate it consistently for him to diagnose. I connected my computer scanner to the truck and no error codes.

My gut is telling me it's the signal stock. Electrical problems are the hardest things to track down fml. I just figured out why my accelerator was cutting out thanks to another forum brother on here. Now I gotta deal with this crap lol

I work at a body shop and I looked up the signal stalk. It says the signal stalk is 161 bucks and an hour to put in. Usually an hour labor is more like a half hour if you know what your doing. Only problem is if it’s the headlamp stalk n u replace it the problem could come back unless they fix the issue with a new headlamp stalk part number which would supersede the old.

Hi everyone! I have a 2014 platinum with the same problem. I have noticed that every time this has happened I was at a stop with the left turn signal on and when I finished turning and the turn signal cancelled is when the lights went out. I have no aftermarket add on anything so that rules that out. I am a ASE auto technician and am thinking the problem is in the multi-function switch, but have not been able to prove it as of yet, seeing how that is what is common with the problem with the lights and turn signals. I will let you all know what I find out if I find out.

Any of you guys with this issue notice when the right turn signal turns off, the left turn signal turns on for split second?

It’s not a fix. Just a temporary fix by replacing the headlamp signal stalk switch with the part that’s already the problem. I will upload the parts breakdown from my database.

I just replaced the ambient headlight sensor. Next I was going to change headlamp switch. I’m almost positive it’s the switch. But I only have 18,000 miles on my truck. This problem with the lights started at 17,000 miles. Usually if a part designed for a vehicle has a new part # it supersedes the old then it’s an updated part. I don’t think I want to replace the headlamp switch with the same switch that I’m taking out with the very same part number. Makes no sense. The problem is not fixed.

You can add me to the list as well. Glad to see there might be some traction on this issue. My 2017 Platinum has the same issue and it doesn't matter if it's in auto or manual. I too do not have any aftermarket add ons. My dealership was supposed to reach out to Toyota, but haven't heard back yet. Thanks for all the updates on this!

My 2014 1794 Edition is doing the same thing. I too have no aftermarket add ons. The first time this happened was in October and the temperature was above 65 degrees so it doesn’t seem to be just when it is cold. I plan on calling my dealership today to give them the info I found here.

Left my truck with the dealer Friday and the QC manager drove it home over the weekend. He was able to replicate the headlights cutting out and they contacted Toyota and got approval to replace what parts they think are bad. I'm supposed to have my truck back on Friday, I'll update everyone with the list of parts they replace. Hope it solves the issue.
