Auto Dimming Feature Missing on One Side View Mirror

Better yet, don't buy a 2022 Tundra, and problem REALLY solved!

I respectfully think you are missing the point of the argument/complaint. Speaking solely for myself, like you, I don't "need" the feature either. I too have driven many vehicles for many years without it and made it just fine. The issue at hand is the "mistake in literature" is the actual build sheet of the vehicle. I was provided a spec sheet, that has my truck's vin #, and a list of every feature included and added to the build with associated pricing. That means I paid for the feature. If it is just a mistake, where is the line drawn? The spec sheet says I have a spare tire. If the truck came without one can Toyota just say, oh well, you are misreading. The spec sheet says leather seats; again, if I had cloth seats can they say, oh well. The mirror is a feature like any other listed. It is really a matter of principle, particularly now with the shameful manner in which Toyota is handling the issue. I can not believe how they have thrown the salesperson under the bus. What exactly is he supposed to do?

Is it a petty complaint? Possibly. Is it a big deal? Not really. Where my issue lies is the fact Toyota is trying to argue the fact the spec sheet, manual, web page, etc all says this feature is not there. Not a single person has simply acknowledged the error and said, oops, sorry we will correct that. Initially, everyone I spoke to said I was "misreading" what is written. I humbly said this is possible and asked them to explain what is written and not one has been able to or even tried. If they would just own the error, it would be much less of an issue. I may be slightly more bitter than others due to the terrible customer service I have received with this truck and this just adds to it.

 

Our 22 GX also has driver mirror dimming only. I believe previous years of the GX had a passenger side dimming mirror. Toyota is absolutely cutting corners.

 

Agree. But problem is some trims has it, so it means it exists.

 

Other than tow mirrors, what trim has it?

Interesting. Wonder if someone on here will chime in. What seems really odd is the wiring would be different between trims. I'm not a mechanic or electrician, but I was allegedly shown the wiring diagram for the Platinum with and without tow mirrors. The model without didn't even have the same wiring, it wasn't even possible to add them. You'd think simple stuff like that would be consistent between trims. They could be blowing smoke and I'll admit that cause I don't know the difference, but I'm told its not even possible to add that mirror to my Platinum, so that can't be a solution.

 

I have a 1794, it does not have the passenger, dimming mirror.

No one has a passenger side auto-dimming mirror (aside from possibly towing mirrors, which do not apply in this case).........and no one ever will.

Only tow mirror, hence the problem of saying it's on the truck.

 

this is not the same, when you buy a dozen eggs, in a container that were designed for a dozen eggs, then yes, it make sense you should get 12 eggs

this is purely a mistake on Toyota's literature part, there were never supposed to be an auto dimming passenger side mirror, it's not part of the design, it's not like you were supposed to get auto dimming passenger side mirror and didn't

when you buy a car, and the dealership accidentally put "cars" in your contract, are you expecting to get multiple cars?

i'm not a lawyer but i don't see this going anywhere

 

The problem and logic has been thoroughly explained in this thread. Mistake or not, it's listed on the spec sheet with the vin # and vehicle price. If they said leather seats was a typo does that mean I don't get them and didn't pay for them?

....not to mention it's also specified in the manual, online build spec, online comparisons, etc. Sure, it's something that was overlooked by someone at Toyota, but Toyota needs to own it.

 

where does it state "passenger side auto dimming mirror"? my understanding is it's "mirrors" when it's supposed to be "mirror"

regarding your leather seats scenario, it depends on if you're talking about "leather seats" vs "leather seat" or "cloth seats" vs leather seats"

if your vehicle was supposed to have leather seats (and you can prove that it's supposed to have leather seats) and you got cloth seats, then yes, that's negligence and you should get your leather seats, because it would be hard to argue that "leather seats" vs "cloth seats" is a typo

however, if you're supposed to get one leather seat and the rest are cloth (per intended design, of course this is a made up scenario because no automaker does that that i'm aware of), and the contract states "leather seats" instead of "leather seat", then it's a typo

the difference here is negligence vs typo, i wouldn't be surprised if there's a clause somewhere to protect toyota from typos

 

Here is the vehicle spec sheet. It says "mirrors" and both mirrors have every feature listed but dimming, which is not listed any different than the other four features. We can agree to disagree on what a typo is.

As far as your hypothetical example, if it said leather seats and I got one leather seat, yes, that too would be an issue.

Interesting, I was unaware previous gens had them. Usually, when an owner with another gen chimes in it's just to say 22s suck, lmao. Thanks for passing on something useful!

not to beat this dead horse but I just broke my 2014 1794 passenger mirror its got auto dimming. Its 600+ retail for goes only or 350$ wholesale. I have just spoke to my local dealer. But glancing threw this thread wanted to post this.


Im not even sure what I hit. I think it was some toolbag with there super duty tow mirrors fully extended. stilll my fault but I looked back and didn't see anything at all. I was driving threw a very small local town at 25mph


EDIT: uploaded a picture. Im thinking the brown wire is the auto dim.

 

I have a 2024 Platinum worth tow mirrors, and both driver and passenger mirrors dim.

 

FWIW, I have a 2024 TRD Off-road Limited with standard mirrors,
only the driver side mirror auto-dims.

 

Did you leave the “tool bag” a note that you hit his/her mirror?

 

It’s occurs to me, belatedly, that my both sides dim from above may ne related to the fact that I have factory tow mirrors.

 

Tow mirrors here and are both are functional.
