This has probably been beat to death but i am going to ask anyway. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on one for 2017 Tundra. Is there a down side to having one? I can't see one.

What exactly are you looking for as far as performance out of a mechanical LSD? Basically I'm asking why are you looking at getting an Auburn LSD.

Do you have aftermarket Wheel and Tire larger Tire setup?

Tagging in for info. Waffling between ARB air locker or Auburn LSD for the next 'big' mod. :)

My last Tundra was an 06 which had lsd. I am planning a 3" lift but have not decided on brand yet. I do not do hard core off road driving, however I do spend a lot of time in deep sand and old logging roads and forestry roads. At some point in time I am considering an arb for the front. Just wondering if there is a down side to the Auburn.

Please tag along. Several guys on here have Auburn in the rear and ARB in the front. Seems like a great combinaHaving had numerous old Bronco's I like to think that I have learned a few things (Obviously not). Just trying to keep something from biting me in the arse down the road. Nowatamean?

The only downside to a mechanical limited slip is it should have came from the factory equipped with one on a Tundra and it will cost you some money getting it upgraded.

Toyota would have had the perfect truck in my book. I would still give it a 90/100 though.

Deep sand and logging roads....sold! I would be buying one ASAP.

Is the auburn an auto lock or manual/air lock?

I seem to remember reading that it’s not exactly recommended to do an front air locker on an IFS vehicle. I could be wrong though.

The Auburn is a limited slip differential. If the ARB is a problem with IFS then I wouldn't do it. I'll save that for another thread. Just trying to see if there are any downsides to doing this mod with the Auburn. I can't think of any with my limited knowledge.

I don’t see any downside with the Auburn in the rear. Other than it’s not a true locker if you ever really needed it. I think my ultimate would be an ARB rear locker with an Auburn in the front.

The only downside to my Auburn is it's still in the box downstairs. Two trucks later and I haven't installed it. :notsure:

I don't think there's a downside other than expense. For hard core wheeling maybe a locker is better. But lockers don't work well on snowy, icy roads and the lsd will shine.

Perfect setup manual locker in the rear and LSD up front. I die more each day no one comes out with a front LSD.

I've got a Q. I have an auburn and with Nannies turned on it always seemed to eventually grab on both sides. Now I'm trying to drive with the Nannies all the way off, if my front tires get into the snow going up my driveway, and my rear gets on the icey sidewalk, I can stand there and burn rubber with one tire (unintentionally!) anyone else having issues getting your auburn LSD to lock up?

I don’t know a lot about it, but to test it could you jack up the rear and try to spin a tire to see if they both spin the same way? I think if they do it works and if not something is wrong.

both wheels should be spinning together all the time so something is wrong with it or you don't have an Auburn LSD.

Does it have a failsafe where if one tire goes from stationary to spinning really fast the lsd doesn’t engage so it doesn’t tear up? Seems like it would be hard on the differential if one is spinning really fast and it tries to engage. Or maybe it’s like 4wd and just takes time to get everything lined up to engage.

What's being left out here is that the "auto LSD" with our trucks that is a selling point for Toyota....SUCKS. The Auburn Gear LSD is a huge improvement. Of course the ARB locker would be ideal depending on your use. The best solution would be for Toyota to have standard on the next true gen Tundra.....................Eaton Detroit Locker....hands down......

It's always engaged but allows some slippage so the wheels can turn at different speeds when going around a corner

When youa accidentally spin just one tire with an Auburn it’s ruined forever.

When you first get an Auburn it’s nice n tight. After you play with it for a while it wears out and get very loose. And less fun:(

My Auburn’s usually are fun and tight for about 2 weeks. Then just going around a corner in the rain results in a one tore fire.

    They don’t last very long.

No shit. I had a limited slip in my Dodge that stayed tight for a long time. And I used that thing. Sounds like an auburn is a inferior design. Why even bother putting it in at that point. I’d rather let the computer figure it out or spend real money on an air locker.

I had one in my old 2010 with a supercharger and it lasted me for years. Still worked good after running it hard on the street with the sc. can you explain how it’s done after only 2 weeks?
