I recently sold my 2013 Grizzly 700 and was planning to buy another in a few years…

Well that changed after riding shot gun in a Yamaha Wolverine for 40 plus miles in very rocky terrain. I am sold! It takes more work to get around tight obstacles but the stability and comfort are hands down better than any ATV owned or ridden…

If you want a little better tight trail mobility you should look at the 50 inch width machines from Canned Ham and Poo-laris. (My preference is the American one. :p)

How stable are they? Never ridden in one but I ride fairly steep and rocky terrain. Safety is a priority because I am planning on taking my son with me in a few years when he turns 7ish…

Anywhere you'd take a 4 wheeler it'll go. Side hills are the only thing that feels sketchy, but it feels like it's gonna tip way before it ever will. Steep hill climbs a longer machine will work better, but we're talking stupid steep.

When we were down in the high desert I was able to handle the snow with the Alpine Flex plow on the Commander, but after moving into the mountains had to swap to a snowblower: 6' Bercomac.

You're making me nervous because after plowing with a can AM 650 Outlander xt, I upgraded to the 1000 Commander xtp along with the Alpine Flex plow and drift cutters hoping this would be better. I'm in the mountains of Northern NJ and we get a decent amount of snow. Where were you located that your previous setup couldn't handle it and what amounts did you struggle with?

Btw that's a badass setup you got there now.

Currently central Idaho, generally 300+ inches of snow a year. We're on a couple acres, but need to clear a lot of area between home, shop and turn around areas, so snow storage is critical. Can't push it high enough in available areas using a plow. In the high desert it was different, on ten acres, nowhere near the amount of snow, and plenty of room to put it, plow worked just fine.

My buddy that I ride with is going to be selling off a dirt bike and his 4 wheeler to get a SxS and a trailer. It is one of his financial goals for this upcoming year. I'm super happy for him. He's been out riding with me since I got my machines a couple years ago, and I'm looking forward to him being able to ride longer days than he could on the quad.

With the crazy prices on used ATV’s I ended up selling the red one and picked up a new 570 Trail. Loving it so far.

This helps to give perspective on just how nuts these toys have become. Also makes their prices a little easier to swallow.

Recently installed my PRP seats in the KRX. They turned out great and the increase in safety is more than worth it in my opinion.
    20211202_151213.jpg
Went with 5 point, padded SFI approved PRP harnesses as well. After rolling my crawler numerous times in the past with the same combo, it was a no brainer for me. I have other safety improvements planned in the near future. A full DOM cage being one of them.

You asked how stable they are, and I found a video that shows a little bit on some rocks and such. There are a few times a wheel is in the air, and it just trucks along. Not my favorite youtube personalities, but one of the few with a trail unit, and one of the newer trail units at that. This vid should skip their intro and be right at them climbing a bit. The first bit covers it pretty well.

    https://youtu.be/Bci4G1iPq84?t=28

Now, this is a good video of the climbing/crawling stability that it has. If you meant stability at speed and cornering, well a regular 4 wheeler is going to be easier to whip in a turn because you can use your body weight to control it. I don't think it would be hard to tip a SxS over, and that's not just the trail units. I tipped over my RS1 going in a straight line. Just like anything, you get a bit of a feel and then you go from there. The good thing is that most of the SxS can take a low speed tip with little more than cosmetic damage.

Here's a video that shows just how far they lean without tipping. You'll be afraid it'll tip before it actually will in most scenarios. Vid should start close to where it illustrates the point. Give it about a minute.

I am just itching to get out and ride. I may just have to get something to keep my head and hands warm and tough it out for a winter ride on my upcoming days off. I am reluctant to plan on it though, because every damn time I make plans something goes wrong to make it so I can't do whatever was planned.

I really just need to get a helmet and wear some winter gloves and I should be good. Bonus to the RZR is that the radiator up front kinda winds up working like a heater for the cab. It'd suck in Arizona and the like, but it's nice in the high elevation desert areas that can be pretty chilly.

Get one of those heated jackets too and you'll be golden. A fully enclosed helmet with a neck skirt is the biggest thing imo, then there's no air hitting your face or flowing down your neck.
