The only thing I know for sure that tow/haul does is make the accelerator more sensitive/ responsive.

I wish our owner's manuals actually had some information in them. You know, explaining how tow/haul or auto LSD works, instead of just telling you in broken English where the button for it is.

Think it goes 65,500 ish, 50,000 means atf thermal breakdown iirc. Mines at 850.

So, does the stock temperature gauge not show accurately? If it does, where should it be when it is a safe temperature. I have been watching mine and at operating temperature it always sits a bit under the halfway mark. Being that there are no numbers, what temperature is at at that point?

You're talking about either the coolant temperature gauge or the oil temperature gauge? No transmission temperature gauge on the 3rd gen (though I believe the second gen may have had one).

Oh, okay. I know which is the oil temp, so I must be mistaking the coolant temperature gauge for a transmission one. Thanks for the clarification.

Your 19 has an oil pressure gauge and coolant temp gauge. The 07-13s had an atf temp gauge, but it was meaningless. It was in the middle between about 170-240. It accomplished the same thing a light could. Best atf temp gauge is a digital one, but I think most mfg don’t put one in because most users don’t need it and don’t know what the numbers mean.

Men in dark suits have Marmalard in a basement. They are having him repeat over and over again that his atf fluid is fine and the engineers at Toyota are bright young folks who whistle while they work.

So your assumption is they took off the atf cooler to save a couple 100 per truck and if reliability goes out the window it doesn’t matter to them?

Or he could be assuming the analysis will come back good and Toyota was right all along. And unlike his username, no need to panic, man.

    Just getting started
I am definitely paying attention to this thread....and yet I have one of those lucky dealers where they guarantee powertrain for life. Would I like to see Toyota fix this? Yes....but wait...IF..IF this thing comes back good and there proves to be no issue, then what is there to fix? So round and round we go where I conclude I am happy I bought where I did and have powertrain for life...they didn't even try to sell me a warranty...as in, didn't even bring it up.

    Still watching.

I too am eagerly awaiting the results of the Blackstone analysis. I expect the results to show that the old ATF was still good as I have maintained all along that the Toyota engineers know what they are doing. If the results show that the oil is indeed cooked I will admit I was wrong. Will I put a cooler on my truck? Absolutely not. I’ll trade it in on something else, probably a GMC 2500 AT4. I just don’t trust FCA and I refuse to buy a Ford.

I tow a TT 4000lb and never go above 218 on pan , I see 235 or lower when In traffic or when stopping and accelerating on torque and goes down after.
I towed in Vermont and NH and in MA flat , didn't see that difference .
I am not sure under what driving conditions they were getting 300 .

I have towed my TT #6000, in Maine and NH in July this year. I seen trans temps reach 265*F when going uphill. The temp did drop quickly when on flat pavement to about 210*F. I'm not going to worry too much about it. The ambient temp up here in New England does not get high enough to warrant the install of a trans cooler. I will keep an eye on my trans temps when i tow for sure. If i see the trans temps getting worse, then i will contemplate a trans cooler install.

I am still interested in the results. I am a mechanic, and understand fluid temps, but i'm still on the fence
