    HELP!

ORIGINAL ISSUE - surging while giving acceleration going up hill or getting on it on flat road. Does it in about 2 sec intervals.

THINGS I’VE DONE- New mass air flow sensor. New air filter. New coil packs and plugs. ECU reset.

After the ecu reset, it ran and idled fine. I just went outside and cranked it and it is doing the surging at idle now. Jumps about 200-300 rpms in intervals. I have it gas and it leveled out back to smooth idle. Only thing I know to do next is fuel pump. I’m going to change my valve cover gasket’s tonight and clean pcv valve before I buy fuel pump.

Truck also sat for a few months before I bought it. I’m going to get fuel treatment in it here in a few in hopes that maybe it just needs a good cleaning.

Any other suggestions on what to check or narrow down?

Have you cleaned your throttle body out?

Just cleaned it and definitely helped. Won’t know how much until I drive it home after work. Idles a bit high at the moment but I suspect that will lower once I drive a bit

Disconnect the negative on the battery for a bit to help the system relearn.

I had P2442 but then another code pops up, the code became P0419 (this resulted in a solid check engine only without the other lights that I experienced with the stuck open code. I dropped my truck off yesterday to the dealership. Believe it or not, but if anyone who has SAI issues get the system fixed, it’ll improve the fuel economy. One of the signs of a failing secondary air injection pump is weak acceleration and rough idling, although I didn’t notice a change in how it idles only the acceleration. Likewise, the air switch valve stuck open seemed to be causing me to burn through a lot of gas. They going to install the redesigned parts and hopefully it’ll keep my truck in order as far as emissions.

I dropped it off to the dealership yesterday. The parts and labor are costly. Does the redesigned parts help eliminate or reduce water intrusion as they say? That was the reason it happened in the first place. Unfortunately since I cleared the check engine light to keep it out of limp mode, I believe the pump also failed with the code P0419 since it was still operating in stuck open mode at the time.

2020 crewmax 2x4 80k. Clicking coming from the rear of the truck. Noticeable between 55-80mph. Noise increases with speed. Does not increase with load or coast. Noise most noticeable with back rear window down.

Because it increases with speed I would check the rear rotor backing plates and see it they are rubbing on the rotors. This was a very common problem especially if you live in an area that uses alot of road salt.

Ever figure out what this was? I'm hearing the same thing - slow speed turning in both directions. I don't feel any resistance or hesitation while turning the wheel.

I got internal Toyota wire diagrams that are the same as the ones I got from the TIS. (different colors than I actually have) Can a mechanic
speak to the possibility they changed the colors but not order?

The hazard switch has different colors but works plug & play with my switch as a hopeful example.

Is there a TIS help line you can call? My experience with Toyota WDs has been very accurate. Are you sure you have entered the correct info?

I don't know about a helpline, I used the vin from the vehicle my cluster & harness came from. The document is August 2017+ for the Sequoia.

    Thanks

    Hello,
It’s been quite a while since I have been on here and I’m glad I stumbled upon this forum!

I have a 2021 TRD pro and I’ve had this issue for some time now. I often hear a cracking sort of sound coming from the bed area of the truck. I can’t tell where exactly it’s coming from but it almost sounds like the frame or suspension. It seems to happen mainly when I am turning and slow speeds.

It does not seem to have negatively affected the truck in any way but if it is an issue, I want to nip it in the bud before it becomes anything more. Not sure if this is common or if anyone else has experienced this. Any thoughts are welcome and appreciated! Thanks.

Check and make sure the bolts in the bed that attach it to the frame are tight. We would see this issue every couple of months and tightening the bolts stopped the noise.

What does it mean when you have the P0419 code and you no longer hear the pumps running on cold starts or prolonged sitting? Also, what causes fuel smell from the tailpipe?

P0419 is a problem with the secondary air injection system. Your probably smelling fuel at the tailpipe because the air injection isn't pumping air into the exhaust to reduce emissions.

So I was going to buy some more Toyota ATF WS fluid for my power steering and I thought, "let me make sure this product has Dexron in it."

Well, I found out that Toyota ATF WS DOES NOT have Dexron in it. I have only driven the Tundra three miles since I installed the new steering rack and ps pump.

This weekend I'm going to flush all the ATF WS in the system and replace it with Mobile1 Syn ATF.

My question is....do you think I ruined my steering rack and ps pump by driving 3 miles with the wrong fluid?

Hey guys. I have a 2002 Tundra and was replacing the front seats (driver power and passenger manual bucket seats). The seats were from a 2005 so the wiring plugs didn’t match up. I cut the plugs off and wired them directly. Everything worked on the drivers power seat and cranked up and ran, but then I found out the seatbelts were different. So I disconnected wiring, and changed the seatbelt ends on the seat side. I had forgotten to disconnect the battery this time and as I was reconnecting the wires, the two power wires for the seat motors arced between each other. I then disconnected battery again and finished wiring. Reconnected wiring and seat worked correctly. But then cranked the engine, it fires up, but shuts off immediately after. Checked all the possible fuses, especially the 30 amp Power fuse that feeds the seat motor and all were good. Everything works but it won’t stay running. Fires up, but shuts off immediately. Another issue is that the battery may be going bad. I’m gonna test the battery tomorrow as I thought it may be a security system issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

The name "Dexron" is just a GM commercially used name and doesn't actually contain a substance called Dexron in it. You are fine to use WS fluid in the power steering. The only issue using WS fluid is that it is a semi-synthetic power steering fluid. If you live in a cold climate there are advantages using a full synthetic. Valvoline Dexron VI ATF is a good PS fluid choice and so is Valvoline ATF plus-4.

To sum up, WS fluid is fine to use as a PS fluid and will do no harm.

Your going to have to pull codes to help diag the issue. It's unlikely that a mistake you made with the seat would result in a drivability issue.

That makes sense. After a little more digging, I think the issue is from have the battery disconnected. Someone else mentioned the ecu can “forget” how to operate and it just needs to run to relearn how to calibrate everything. I cranked it up, kept giving it a little gas and eventually it idled on its own. I’m going to drive it more this afternoon and I bet it will even out how it runs back to normal. I have an 02 4Runner that did this one time on battery change and I didn’t know what was going on. Thanks for the help!

You are correct. Toyotas seem to loose there ability to run after the battery has been disconnected. They will start and run for about a second and shut down. After a few tries they sort themselves out and will run without issue.

What causes delayed engagement when going from park to drive? When I shift my truck from park to drive, it takes a few seconds for it to move then I lightly press the gas. I can feel it engaging but it just doesn’t move on its own until I give it a little gas. Aside from this, it shifts great while I’m driving. I had the WS transmission fluid exchange a little over 2 1/2 years ago (about 30k miles since). Fluid level is fine, color is darker shade of red so I don’t know what’s causing it. Dealer tries to tell me that’s how the computer programs and I’m like no way. It appears to be more responsive when going from park to reverse. On some good days, there’s no delay at all. Any clue what this issue could be?

When you had the transmission fluid changed was it complete exchange? How many miles are on the transmission? How did you verify the transmission fluid level? WS fluid does go dark after some use and shouldn't be used as a judge to determine if it should be serviced.

I bought a 2012 4.6 4WD from my neighbor this Fall with 45k on it. Garage kept, babied and serviced exactly per the manual at dealerships. It runs perfectly but I’m curious if there’s any preventive maintenance you would suggest as it’s now a 10 year old truck although it looks about a year old at most!
