I hope not to need it but is there anywhere that can test an ecm other than a dealer and how could i clear historical codes or do they even matter?

No need to worry about history codes because they are “history”. Why do you want to test the ecm/tcm? What issues are you having?

Ok that was my line of thinking. Im not sure yet, im fairly sure its ok but i had read that faulty or missing sensors could damage it. Im missing the back o2s and one or two others i replaced. Im getting all but the o2s corrected and now im thinking the truck has been in limp mode this whole time. Will it come out when i get them cleared up or do you hav to trip it out of limp. I picked up the truck blown and just replaced the motor with a reman and im getting it going now. My plan is to keep it long term. I think i have all the codes figured out but im having to wait on trans filter and vss to come it before i can do much more right now. Over all the trucks in great shape, no corrosion or wire molesting and the interior is in great shape

Hi Dave, I'm stumped about my 2010 DC 4X4, 86,000 miles and a garage queen. I have the same IPT Valve Body with shift kit for several years and a BA Exhaust. I thought my TRD CAI was robbing me of the 'snap' I used to get, so I went back to stock all except the air accelerator that goes in the fender. After fully warmed up, I can't break the tires from a stop like I used to. What would you advise me to look at to get this power back? Thanks for any help , Mike.

Sensors or actuators that are missing will not harm the ecu. Toyota ecu are very reliable. Your going to have to make sure all the sensors are present and working if you want the truck to run properly and without a check engine light.

I don’t think the TTD CAI is responsible for your power loss. Are you still running the BA exhaust?

I’m assuming all maintenance items have been looked at (spark plugs, air filter, etc) and you have traction control off? Also make sure the parking brake pivot is not seized.

I just traded my 10" for a 14" BA Exhaust just last week. I had my Park Brake adjusted tighter a while back, maybe I should ask about that, it almost holds the weight of the truck now though. Spark plugs are original but truck idles/runs fine, air filter is good, as was the TRD filter. All nannies are turned off as I buckle up.

So your running the BA exhaust? Do you have the stock exhaust? Some performance exhaust systems will increase HP but will sacrifice torque to do it. Torque is what gets you off the line.

You're right about most 'off the shelf' exhausts that use 3 inch pipe. Keith uses the stock tailpipe and stays with stock sized pipe everywhere else. This change happened while the 10" BA system was on for several years. I've unhooked the negative battery terminal to see if it'll help. Might have the spark plugs changed out soon too.

Ordered a new air filter, just changed it and took it for another spin. It might've needed more time for the ECT to re-learn + maybe the air filter was dirtier than it appeared. Seems to be back to normal now! I appreciate your time Dave, thanks much!

    1) On this forum, do a search , there is a thread on it.

    2) Techstream is use to customize certain setting and diag issues you may have with your truck. Only you will know if you need it.

    3) Same answer as 1)

By any chance do you know if the LX570 calipers are compatible with the Tundra?? they have different part numbers, assuming they're the same, they're 100 bucks cheaper for the pair than Toyotas and are not on back order, nor require the core exchanges..

Sorry I’m not sure. It’s unlikely they are the same. The casing on the outside may look the same but the piston cup is likely a different diameter. Look up an aftermarket source for both vehicles and see if the part numbers are the same. You can’t do that with Lexus/Toyota parts.

I have a 2014 with the 4.0L V6. Fairly uncommon truck from what I can tell. Toyota didn’t make a ton of V6 equipped 2014s. I’m always a little worried my dealer will not realize it’s the V6 and service it like one of the V8s that normally come in. Is this a needless worry or should I continue to remind the service advisors that my truck has the uncommon V6 engine? Will the average Toyota mechanic notice right away once they pop the hood?

Sorry, meant to say 2.5 Gen. Edited post above. It’s a 2014 (which I always thought was considered Gen 3 o_O).

No need to worry and no need to tell them. The parts for the truck are sourced by the VIN. Every work order has the VIN printed on it and when the parts are supplied by the parts department they go off the VIN.

Hi I am finally getting my techstream to work. I have the openport 2.0 drivers installed, and checked that they are working. But for some reason techstream version 16 has reduced capability. I installed version 13 and it works fine. I wanted to check the utility section of the techstream by entering a DTC code. P0019 as you know my camshaft and rocker issue from another post, that seems to have been resolved for the last 2 days.

I have upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 as well now, 64bit, but still version 16 techstream has reduced capability. I assume this is a driver and cable issue, rather than a windows issue.

what version techstream are you using, version 13 only has tundras upto 2018, I need 2020, I also want to programme a new key for my tundra as a spare, as I like to carry a spare when offroading.

Did they install a Toyota sensor? You need the ID of the sensor that is printed on the sensor itself. Techstream can’t read a sensor until it know the ID number. The dealer has a hand held reader that is placed next to the valve stem and can read the ID number. Once you have that number Techstream can be used to program the new sensor. Some tire shops can also read the sensor ID.

they replaced the part with one from a Toyota dealership but im uncertain as to what part number actually is and not to mention they didn't try to reprogram and they certainly did not give me the information needed to register the new one from what that shop purchased. This offroad shop i will never go back again….

I would ask them if they have a way to scan the sensor and get the ID number. You won’t have to pay if you can get them to scan it. The ID number is different than the part number.
